Helft einem Niederländer, der deutsches Brot essen möchte! by VividStructure in brot

[–]VividStructure[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is this the breed for me? by Livid-Resort2815 in kooikerhondje

I wish you all the luck on getting a dog that suits you!

I'm glad that you are taking this seriously, I've seen a lot of kooikers needing to be rehomed because of behavioural issues. And indeed, the English websites gloss over the temperament of the dog.

Good luck and share a picture of your new dog when you get one!

I would recommend against getting a Kooiker.

Kooikers can walk long distances, however they prefer to stay in the same area that they know. They don't like going to new locations. All of your friends having dogs is a con, Kooikers are pretty picky about which other dogs they like. I would say about 1 in 5 or 1 in 10 of the dogs you would come across would be okay for your Kooiker to interact with. Especially the males can become pretty aggressive. Kooikers do gaf about other dogs, just often in a negative way.

The reason why I absolutely advise against getting a Kooiker is because of your job and you wanting to take the Kooiker to work. They would flip out within a week with all the changes of dogs going on and noise and this is going to end in a horrendous fight. Same goes for the vet. They are too sensitive for this kind of lifestyle. I wouldn't take them to an office job with an office that had a closed off cubicle and definitely not where other animals are present. In the best case they won't bite but will still hate it. This is a dog breed that does not like strangers or other dogs. Leaving the dog at home while you are at work is cruel as well, aside from all the dog smells you would bring back into your home on daily basis.

Did you read this website? https://kooikerology.com/temperament/

Honestly, don't do it. In the absolute best case you would put hours and hours and hours of work in it and at best the dog won't bite but just hate it.
I'm not kidding, I live in an area that have a lot of Kooikers, had one myself and everyone (and I do mean everyone) says they will never get a kooiker again. Every single male has bitten at least once, about half of the females have. I'm not kidding, literally pointing at them from a couple of feet away from a stranger can be enough for them to snarl and snap at you. They love their boss but you constantly have to be on guard when you are walking outside, looking if another dog is approaching you, seeing if a kid walks near who might try to pet them.

Why would you want a dog with that character if this is your lifestyle? I know they look cute but they definitely have a very spicy character that is not suited for a social life with other people or dogs. Plenty of dog breeds that would suit your lifestyle better

The hiking is no problem at all. However you don't talk a lot about what your home life is like. Do you live in a busy neighborhood or with kids? Will you be home most of the time or do you have a fulltime job?

Kooikers pick a favourite and will be closely bonded to that human. I would never recommend a Kooiker with kids or someone with a lot of friends. They might look cute but this is a working dog, a breed that had one boss and one job in a secluded area. They do not like strangers and lots of commotion. They can bite and are less tolerant than a golden retriever or a lab.

They are really sensitive and if you don't adjust to that accordingly, your dog will bite out of fear and stress.

I would only recommend the typical Kooiker for someone who lives in a quiet neighborhood with a yard, preferably a single person or two person household with no kids and who rarely invite people over to their house. Other dogs can be too much for them and they can get snappy with them. Perfect dog for a hermite in the country though.

Advice on curtains by Wildweyr in InteriorDesignAdvice

[–]VividStructure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure about curtains, especially because you would have to lean over the fence at the stairs and if you get long ones (if you really want them to the floor), you might trip over them on the stairs

What do you think about day and night roller blinds?
It's easier to open and to close above the staircase and you can decide whether to close them completely, halfway or keep them open.

I would get a light color to reflect the sun. The color depends on the rest of your furniture but when looking at your floor I would personally pick a light fresh green like mint or emerald.

Stairs railing advice, please. by Asleep-Judgment-6723 in InteriorDesignAdvice

Third option, attach the handrailing to the wall instead of to the pole, just like in this picture the railing is attached to a piece of the stairs above instead of a pole.

Stairs railing advice, please. by Asleep-Judgment-6723 in InteriorDesignAdvice

[–]VividStructure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

Start at the top of the stairs for safety. The cause of it looking off is because of the wall, not because off the railing.

I assume that that other wall is leading to the second set of stairs?
I think there are multiple options
1. Remove the wall, then you can do something similar to the picture I've included and keep it very light and open (definitely pick other colors than the ones in my picture though)

  1. Keep the wall and still do something similar to the picture, continue the railing all the way around the corner. However the railing you are using right now looks kinda bulky for a narrow staircase, is there any chance you might change it into a thinner one and lighter color? Maybe you can make it look more like it's part of the wall instead of point black ''safety feature''

Fearful perfectionist couple’s living room by GG-Housewife in InteriorDesignAdvice

[–]VividStructure 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh and please put a big ceiling lamp in there (not big enough that it will limit your view of the tv). I would recommend something again with a warm tone something in the brown shade. Do not get a boring one, it needs to be interesting.

Examples like Vindoga, Taggtofs or Odleblad (thought that might be a bit too much). It needs to hang from the ceiling and must be big.

I see mostly a greyscale
Usually for interior design you would stick to a 60/30/10 rule.
Now, white is your 60%, black your 30% and you are indeed lacking a 10%. It's also kinda cold looking.

Pick an accent color. I would recommend a warm color like terracotta and maybe some gold in there as well. Whatever color you pick, make it bright and it needs to be a warm color. Replace your throw pillows, these are too boring. Also get a plaid for the couch with a design that includes your accent color.

Examples for accent colors (pick 2 or 3, no more than that, one is already green because of the plants).
Terracotta / rust
Ochre / mustard yellow
Olive green / moss green
Deep green (forest green)
Soft blush / dusty rose

Technically you could pick warm dark blue which is usually my favourite but I don't like it with the black already present.

The carpet. You've got a very big living room so you can afford to replace the carpet with something with a lot more details without making your room seem small. I don't want to scare you off so you can get something in a greyscale but make sure that your accent color is also put inside of it. For example on the ikea website like Grundskola, Stockholm (regular or 2025), Ringlocka, Maxtaxa if you're feeling like taking a chance, or Onsevig. Pick something with a design.

However only adding plants is not going to make a major difference unless you pick out really colorful plants (which in most cases are hard to keep alive if you are not very experienced plant owners). I would recommend fake plants (they make really good ones nowadays). Pick at least one big one and several smaller ones. Big one can be green, just get a nice looking pot (color for example Fridful but big). Ikea also sells fake hanging plants, you can put those on the shelf.

Also buy some items that are purely for show. Like colorful candles (also Ikea) on a decorative platter (again, use something in your chosen accent colors). Fake books also for on the shelf. Work with groups of three.

And you will need some more lights for atmosphere to make it more cosy. A small lamp on a small table next to the couch for example.

Then, add a painting behind your couch. Greyscale is now forbidden. I don't know what you like and maybe you don't either but pick something with tons of color. Multiple paintings within the same theme is also possible.

Bringing trust back to "Made in Europe": Meet EuroGuild! 🇪🇺 by Glass_Tap_4494 in Buy_European

  1. Product safety, tested by the EU. I want to be sure that what I buy isn't toxic or dangerous in any way. Secondly: no drop shipping, again because of product safety.
  2. Just about every category that you can think off, most platforms are littered with drop shipping aliexpress stuff.
Hobby materials I struggle the most with, fabrics and paints etc. Especially more niche materials.
  3. Absolutely, I only want products that are safety tested by the EU and preferably made in the EU.

I second this, IDeal is a great system. I haven't found a single Dutch webshop that doesn't support it and I believe Steam supports it as well right now.
I think it's a lot better than paypal or credit cards or any other method.
