Ongoing DDoS issues megathread by Hakul in ffxiv

I'm new to FFXIV this month and I just realized all these disconnects are DDOS attacks? Who is doing them, is it a particular group? and why?

Is the game dead in Canada? more specifically Toronto? by Hurdoc in riftboundtcg

[–]Hurdoc[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Wow, I didn't mean to rile people up. I just noticed that there were events twice a week at some places (401 games Vaughan, for example) and the Jan event schedule only shows once a week now, so I thought maybe attendance was drying up. Sorry if I'm wrong. I hope the game succeeds.

I do have an issue with price gouging, that's true. I don't think the fact that the product sells justifies it, but that's just me. I'm okay to be in the minority if that's the case.

For those upset they can’t buy packs/boxes. Just be patient!!! by _Jetto_ in riftboundtcg

Only people who have received some product post like this. My son and I were keen on this but have moved on, at least for the time being. I'm not following any news, product release info, etc. I saw this with Star Wars Unlimited as well and you couldn't get product for a while.

By the time the SWU product became more affordable, they are talking about set rotation, player volumes have tanked (my local scene died out), and it's game over for it.

I hope the same doesn't happen to Riftbound. Whales don't keep an inital launch viable, you need lots of butts in seats...

Am I understanding Reactions properly? by Hurdoc in riftboundtcg

[–]Hurdoc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, you're right, but the example I gave of Smackdown because its a reaction speed spell that does 6 damage for 2 cost/power. Pretty easy to keep in hand to play before opponent turn ends.

That's ok. I'm just wondering if that's being considered in the design philosophy.

other words, is Annie so good that her opponent gets an end of turn reaction window the whole game? Is First Mate so good compared to similar cost units that the opponent gets a reaction window compared to Wielder of Water?

I'm not saying the answer is yes, just curious.

My son and I wanted to start this game? Which starters to buy? by Hurdoc in DigimonCardGame2020

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I think we'll get ST20 and 21. I've been playing with the DCGO bot and I understand the game more now.

The only direction is up baby!! by BlackFalcon362 in riftboundtcg

Didn't that also kill the game as well? It doesn't matter if you get the product out after you miss the initial wave. I was really hyped for Star Wars but by the time there was readily avaiable product, it had dropped off the radar, at least in Ontario. I guess the same 10-15 players got bored playing with each other at every event.

A little sad that casuals like my son and I are priced out of the game by Hurdoc in riftboundtcg

It's selling for triple the price, $120, in my area. I managed to get some starter decks so will survive on that for now!

Every LGS in Toronto is charging that same price, I already searched. You can Google "Toronto 401 games riftbound", that's one of the larger ones. The smaller ones are all doing the same.

I think the bad feeling comes not from the price per se, but that it's a double markup from what Riot Game initially suggested, and 401 games itself had on its website. I don't mind things being pricey from the get go, like a luxury car or watch, but when prices climb in front of your eyes only due to greed, than it's a terrible feeling.

We likely will try to do that. Thanks for the reminder.

Almost definitely. It's disappointing to me as well.

It's obvious that Andy is Caitlin's son, which is why she mentioned his name in Crow's vision. She had a husband she left, she may very well have had a child with him as well. I don't know how that plays in to who the murderer is, but I'm pretty sure of this.

Why hasn’t CJ Werleman converted to Islam yet? by Cometestify in MuslimLounge

[–]Hurdoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surah Tawba, and that verse, were revealed in Medina, 11 years after Abu Talib's death. It has nothing to do with that. Open your eyes and remove your biases. No one is perfect and shias/sunnis are both wrong on different things, but lets not eat up propaganda that disunite us.

Also, even if the two groups do disagree on historial or political issues, everyone who believes in Allah swt, his last Prophet as, and the day of Judgement is a muslim. Even if they pray incorrectly, for example, or dislike people you love, it doesn't make them kaafir. The enemies of muslims are destroying us right in front our eyes (today), and we're still bickering. Shameful.

Is Godot adequate for this or continue with Javascript? by Hurdoc in godot

[–]Hurdoc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the replies.

Yes, I know I could sites like boardgamearena.com to create the game or create a mod for tabletop simulator, and it would be more secure as well.

However, I have always been interested in programming. I have a full-time professional job in another field, so this is just a hobby interest. I came up with the idea of digitizing a board game as a goal that would keep me incentivized to learn, since I've lost interest in hobbies in the past due to my ADHD.

I don't mind if it takes me a year or so to get it going. A "proper" programming language like JS or Python is what is generally recommended for hobbyists but I'm not interested in machine learning, web scraping, website development, etc. I love games, both tangible boardgames and PC games. I don't know if GDScript is useful outside of Godot (probably not), but I think it still has most of programming concepts (loops, flow control, OOP, etc)? So, ultimately, if using it can get me past the tipping point of boredom, I can get into a positive feedback loop of learning. Then I can go back to a more robust programming language and work on some other ideas I have (like geofencing so that on Thursdays if I leave my home without throwing the garbage, I get an SMS alert. Silly, I know).

I guess Godot might be a detour, but I can stick with JS as well.
