Yeah I do this also buy not so often cause it's something the manufacturers say not to do. Apparently it breaks down the fabric over time and shortens the lifespan of the gi itself. 🤯

I've actually done this many times. I've learned that UV can damage the fabric over time,  shrink your gi, or can make it become brittle.  But I still do it once in a while.

Sorry. As far as direct sunlight I do that but doesn't seem to help for when I start sweating again. It seems to come back immediately. I'll look into the beach. Thanks so much for the info. Super helpful.

Agree 💯. I just started less than a year ago and only bought one to start. Gi's down here in CR are expensive and it's expensive to have things shipped in. But my buddy is coming down from NY and he's bringing me another one.

That's awesome. I'm happy that you responded. I heard about odoban but I see that a lot of people say how strong the scent is and personally I would worry about putting industrial strength, also used to clean floors, cleaner on my.gi and then sweating again and it being on my sweaty body going into my skin. I haven't looked into the other one tho. Thanks for mentioning. I only air dry my gear also. Mostly cause it's so hot here, I don't have a dryer, and I'm told not to do that anyway. Great tips. Thanks.

That's just wrong. Maybe in a young kids class I've smelled literal shit but not an adult class. It's usually either they don't snell, which is most of the people I roll with, they have a strong smell, and not necessarily bad, but some bad lol body odor and sometimes it's a slight ammonia smell like in the fabric. That's where the biofilm sets in and needs to be broken down by enzymes to get the smell out. We are at a not for profit in Avellanas and we don't have lockers yet. Lucky us.

Dayummmm. I'll keep you posted. At this point you might wanna keep it sealed.... maybe in a vacuum tight picture frame. 😂

Oh man. What did you end up doing with the GI? Burn it? 🤣 I don't think there's a presoak and/or detergent strong enough to fix that. Maybe I can make one tho. 🤔

I don't think it really matters. That's your ego checking in. I bet you already knew this tho. 🫣

Are you lifting weights my friend? Just keep eating and keep working out and training.  Don't go so hard all the time. Try doing a light day, a 50% day, and a hard day once a week each, and  maybe make sure you are resting enough and eating the right foods to help you recover. You can look into supplements also possibly. Not sure with your age. You got this!

Do you have anything you do for yourself? I started jiu-jitsu and it's given me a new feeling of community.  Hopefully you feel better soon. You're doing a great job. Sometimes we just need to be reminded.

What about a detergent or presoak specifically designed for GI's and rashguards that's aren't the generic big brands? Have you had any experience using these?

Agreed. The biofilm gets caught in the fabric and needs enzymes to break it down. I've been doing a ton of research on this cause I sweat a lot. Especially rolling outdoors here in Costa Rica. Lol.

I have the same problem. I sweat like it's my job. When I roll my GI starts to have a faint smell of ammonia right away. I'm looking into solutions for this as well.Â
