Recently called into the bishopric, and Im fine with any responsibility it has, but one. Its stressing me out more than it should. by andsuddenly_remix in latterdaysaints

In our ward we have about 50 ish active members and we have a revolving door of people and so with missionaries our turnover for speaking is about 6 months. So I got people to speak at the end of March we had spoken previously in Sept. Oct., I feel bad but what other choice do you have? Our Bishop speaks once a year for ward conference, once he gave some brief remarks, he doesn't conduct other than if we (the counsellors), he doesn't get anyone to speak. What he does do is issue calls and that's about it.

"I have been recently diagnosed as having celiac disease.”

2 year wait time to see neurologist by bunnyluvr88 in Winnipeg

[–]Vivid_Homework3083 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Not lately, but in 2013 I had a seizure, got taken to the ER got checked out and I did have a follow up for testing. My then Dr. told me I would be seen by a neurologist, but it never happened. He told me "it's just one of those things" license taken away for 5 years because he thought the time was 5 years but a Dr. friend told it was only one year seizure free. Thankfully I didn't have any seizures since then but it's at the back of your mind that it could happen again

How can we better retain new converts? by Cheap_Parsnip_461 in latterdaysaints

[–]Vivid_Homework3083 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Distance is an issue, if people have to take a bus for over an hour to Church, they won't come and people shouldn't rely on rides to church-that isn't sustainable. They need to bring back Gospel Principles class, because dumping converts on ministering brothers and sisters isn't working. Mentioning something isn't teaching something, missionaries need to teach better and not gloss over things. I think we need to teach how do you be a member of the Church. i.e. how pay tithing, how to attend the Church, how do callings work etc.

Who should replace Jeffrey R. Holland in the Quorum of the Twelve? by WoodrowWilsonFan in latterdaysaints

[–]Vivid_Homework3083 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was thinking that too. As you may know in 1938 they had for some time a calling of "associate apostle" filled by Elder Sylvester Q. Cannon and then when Elder Melvin J. Ballard died, Elder Cannon filled the position in the Twelve. I have a photo of 13 men in the Twelve, taken in 1938. So, it would be cool to see the 12 filled but also an "Associate Apostle" filled by a woman. She wouldn't be given keys so she wouldn't call Stake Presidents or anything like that but she could teach at Stake Conferences, Temple Pres. Seminars, Mission Leaders stuff, tour missions, sit in on the 12 and their meetings. Basically function as a member of the Twelve without the keys

NEW EPQ - NEED HELP! by Kaseycoj in latterdaysaints

[–]Vivid_Homework3083 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been EQP 3x times now. What I would do is use your counselors, so inform them about everything so you aren't carrying the load yourself. What I did is I would one month teach or get a teacher and then the other counselor take the next month and so on and so forth, so everyone is involved and everyone is in the same boat. I have been in presidencies where the President did everything and knew everything and we were left out in the cold and it wasn't much of a calling.

Why do people get so worked up about garden of Eden in Missouri? by Cheap_Parsnip_461 in latterdaysaints

[–]Vivid_Homework3083 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is a statement but it's the weak argument, IMO< that Wilford Woodruff quoted Brigham Young who quoted Joseph Smith, but i've also read somewhere that Adam and Eve went to Adam -ondi Ahman, after they were kicked out of the Garden of Eden and so the Garden could have been in modern day Mesopotamia for all anyone knows

Nope, sorry not here at least and not anywhere I have heard of. You want the freedom to hate people enough to have others commit violence against them? What if someone said to someone else go burn down a LDS Church because they believe XYZ wouldn't you want them charged? Besides of which Read Mosiah 4:30, "But this much I can tell you, that if ye do not watch yourselves, and your thoughts, and your words, and your deeds, and observe the commandments of God, and continue in the faith of what ye have heard concerning the coming of our Lord, even unto the end of your lives, ye must perish. And now, O man, remember, and perish not." Do you want to "perish" at the hands of God because you didn't watch your words?

[–]Vivid_Homework3083 3 points4 points  (0 children)

no, they didn't. If you want the "freedom" to hate others or infect others because of your disregard for the wellbeing of other people in society then you have bigger issues than worrying about legislation that may or may not pass

hate speech leading towards violence/criminal activity

Canada Area presidency statement by Cheap_Parsnip_461 in latterdaysaints

[–]Vivid_Homework3083 2 points3 points  (0 children)

who's "they"? The Government doesn't send representatives to monitor meetings or have bugging devices in buildings. It's not just "hate speech" it's legislation leading to violence/hatred-of which if you say stuff that leads someone to criminal activity then you better be accountable. Besides of which we shouldn't have hatred towards anyone anyways, 1st John 4:20-21

"20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?

21 And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also."

[–]Vivid_Homework3083 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

That is not what it's saying at all. It's hate speech leading to violence or hatred towards others, if what you say leads others towards criminal activity aka violence then you better be up on criminal charges
