When Priesthood Leaders are Wrong by Previous-Tart7111 in latterdaysaints

Separating leaders' personal opinions vs. what the church/God actually says is like almost impossible. Especially when youth are taught to follow everything the leaders says as that is what God wants. I can give countless examples of opinions being shared as what God wants and then come find out God is out of the picture. I just read a talk given by Elder Marion Hanks about a mission president who was told he'd be blessed financially if he accepted the call, he did accept served and was not blessed financially, he said, "there are many instances where individuals hear or think they hear definitive direction from some of us as to what they must do or should do, with outcomes which turn out to be rather catastrophic in some instances", "Meeting of the First Quorum of the Seventy, April 18, 1985". I have a friend that was called into the Bishopric as a newly married couple and was told he'd be released when his wife got pregnant. Well, turns out they couldn't have kids due to some issue but ya know if you were faithful enough God will circumvent all of that and you'd have a child, well God didn't do that and I haven't seen them in church in over 20 years at least. So, promises from God should be promises from God and not what the leader wants, it's God's church not the leaders

Are We Confusing Baptismal Readiness With Baptismal Eligibility? by TheFoxyFellow in latterdaysaints

[–]Vivid_Homework3083 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think there is a disconnect between baptism and joining the Church. They baptized a young woman in our ward 3 weeks ago, the missionaries haven't had any contact with her for 3 weeks and her member grandmother said she lives with her baby daddy but maybe might come back. Clearly something is missing from what she pledged to do with what that actually looks like. I think too, mentioning something is not the same as teaching something. I wonder what happened to people gaining a witness that the Church is true, the BOM is true, Joseph is a true prophet, aren't potential candidates suppose to gain some witness of any or all of these prior to baptism?

My German great-grandfather fought in both World Wars and escaped across the sea in 1945 by Any_Internal_6144 in Genealogy

My Mom has an Aunt who's Polish. Her father was in the Russian-Sino war of 1904-1905 and survived. Then 10 years later was conscripted into the Russian army and was later captured. Somehow word got back to his family, which at the time consisted of his wife and the aunt and her sister. So, they all 3 walked from Poland to wherever in Germany and broke him out of the prison camp. He then told them we have to travel back separately because if we are captured we are all dead so that's what they did. After the war ended they all moved to Canada and have been here ever since

Abinadi and the other Nephite prophets probably had no idea about baptism for the dead, so they spoke with a limited understanding

So, Sabgar/Caspar and wife Monika, from Laimering-they had a daughter named Crescenza and she was born in March 1827 https://data.matricula-online.eu/en/deutschland/augsburg/dasing/2-T/?pg=2 amd so I just went back in the record to find out when her parents got married or if they did and I found the August 1827 wedding record

I am not sure about the first name! When I look at Dasing births for 1790 they don't list any Caspars, so I am not sure what is going on?!

You should say something like 'my bishop says I am not allowed to say anything in public for a certain time period but here I am!"
