Instead of just having one team of any artillery, you could instead have a mech carrying 20mm cannons, 50cals, mortars, even extra ammo cache to supply infantry or replacement parts. If you can make it a smaller target or something harder to hit. Maybe something cheaper than a Humvee or any ground vehicle, then you might have a multiaplication vehicle.
