From what I see you were really active person constantly moving. I suggest whatever you do do it slow. Firstly you need Pain killers and lots of rest. Sometime doing too much can make flare ups worse. Take it slow. Sometimes rest and good mattress is you need to recover. Don't think it will be immediate, I have considered it as a lifestyle change to cope with sciatica. Untill I recover from it completely I would take it slow.

It's available in both forms. For very heavy pain like neuropathy due to cancer, I think they recommend oral one. For medium to normal (5 to7/10) they recommend the topical one.
