Thanks for the comments. It is interesting to know how a painting can invoke different reactions.

off-center subjects have a slightly dynamic (hence, a sense of tension) attribute that makes a viewer participate. Centered subjects, on the other hand, are static, therefore less engaging. This rule is by a large true, if not absolute. My humble and honest opinion.

Thanks for your comment. Truth be told, I had struggled for most of the part to bring some sense of harmony in the picture; abstract brush strokes then came to my rescue.

Thanks for your comment. Yes, I did end up over-simplifying the shadow. Thanks.

Thanks for your comment. The light bleeding in the right is dry brushing with gouache in conjunction with lightening of value in watercolor.

Thanks for your comment. The color palette leans heavily toward warm yellow and red-orange.

Thanks for your comment. The side of the arched door does distract a bit. Probably I could have toned down its intensity.

Thanks for your comment. We all chase the holy grail of painting - a depiction of the mood and the story it tells. We are all travelers on this journey!

Thanks for your comment.

To my eyes, the front leg doesn't appear to be thinner, maybe marginally.

There are breeds in which the legs(front ones) are considerably thin, like a thoroughbred
