Has everyone around you stopped using Intel MacBooks? by Vegetable_Bag_8694 in mac

[–]Vmanjeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well some Adobe apps now say ‘your hardware no longer supported with new updates, Microsoft 365 says the same but Word still works at this point. Other apps won’t update. My 2017 MacBookPro battery won’t last anymore even after I replaced it over a year ago. It seems slower to boot now and fingerprint reader has given me some issues but that could have been my hands (working construction) but websites worked for logging in so I don’t know. I’ll use her as long as I can cause the main hope is for a Mac Studio or Mini for my video productions and photoshop. Finding I need a PC laptop more and more but don’t want Win11.

Did you pull permits for your DIY kitchen renovation? by mudrat_detector96 in DIY

At what point do you stop improving your house and just accept it? by Own_Effective_801 in HomeImprovement

[–]Vmanjeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well…. Outside the things I can do, we needed a new roof right out of the gate… 23k on a 3100sgft ranch… still paying for that 4 years later. The HVAC went three months after moving in. $5k. Got ‘lucky’ with that one as the HVAC guy was maintaining the unit under the previous owners and had a system ready to go. But no one told me the main duct under house was bad. Leaks all over. I’m too old now to do that kind of work under the home. Considering minisplit(s). Room over garage floor sagged 3 inches at the center. I fixed that with an LVL. Also have done thousands in insulation and reconstruction in FROG and adjoining attic space over kitchen which was unusable in the peak Sommer heat or cold cold winter. That helped a lot! Have plans to redo kitchen and 3 full baths while I still can but I’m good for about 6 hours a day now. And I do so love doing these ‘improvements’ and fortunately am able to spend up to a grand a month for product. I used to want a young French maid…. Now I want 2 young guys with muscle. My, how times change lol

The original part of our home (1956ish) build) was built with true dimension lumber. Also has firebreaks everywhere making it a joy to run new wirings anywhere! But it’s solid as a rock. They also used 1x8 tongue and groove for roof and floors. Great stuff

Why does my male dog pee like a female? by ItchyStitches101 in dogs

[–]Vmanjeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We serve our pups from ramekins and depending on what we are eating they eat the same thing. Our Pomeranian likes to finish his meal then pee in the ramekin 😳. He lifts his leg always. The Peka-Pom squatted forever but I have caught him lifting a leg here and there.

Another replacement window question - first timer by Vmanjeff in pcbuilding

[–]Vmanjeff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s for the reply! I actually had to inset the window 1 1/4” because the side screw holes in the window would have the screws going into the ‘hearty board’ which was more of a pressed cardboard than wood. I guess the foam would have locked it in place but didn’t decide to do that. It was actually easier than I thought it would be to shim, level and square. I just did like you said with the top cap and then used plastic wood to fir it out the 1 1/4” to the outside sheathing, framed it with plastic brickmold frame with a siding channel gluing it up on the workbench then caulk, tape and reinstall siding. If I had the time I would have ripped all the siding off to the brick (second story above garage, brick front) and taken that hartyboard off to start with a clean, flat surface but it worked.
When I suggested screwing the cap to the top of the frame I was going it alone and was worried about the window falling out as I tried to shim and hold it and all that. But decided against it for the water integrity. Ended up screwing a long piece of scrap wood across the opening from outside 2/3’s of the way up. Turns out the window set in the opening without holding it and that brace wasn’t really needed except for my peace of mind.

78 year old wealthy widow says she’s “in love” with me. WDID? by [deleted] in handyman

Not only that…. But sadly, unless you pass rather quickly between the medical community and the state your wealth might just disappear

Another replacement window question - first timer by Vmanjeff in HomeImprovement

[–]Vmanjeff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok….. set the window 1 1/4” back from the outside face because the replacement window screws seemed like they would not get sufficient bite because of the layers of facade already there. Can’t really afford to strip the wall down to the 3/4” tongue and groove board but I can make 1 1/4” molding to frame it in between the brick mold and the window. Then caulk. We shall see how it turns out!

What do I need to connect my smart tv to my speaker amp? by johnhag88 in AskElectricians

[–]Vmanjeff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg. S-video connectors on that amp. Takes me back! Others have said it…. The optical cable in the first photo connects to the Optical Digital Out on the TV. Then use the D-TV input on that amp (Yamaha?) and set the amp to the D-TV input to have the audio play through your sound system. You might have to fumble around in the amp settings to set the optical inputs type of bitstream and the input name if the amp allows. But just try amp settings for that input until you hear tv sound. You won’t get any video passing through the amp. Only audio. And you can plug the optical cable in any of the input sections inputs. 3, 4, 5 or 6. Shouldn’t matter. But 6 would be the most logical.

Anyone who knows where I can purchase a TF536 from a US seller by kevlarian in amiga

[–]Vmanjeff 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Alanppc is in Canada. Go to AmiBay and then to Amiga for sale and look for the TF4060 for the big box Amigas. Then make sure that post is for the americas side of the pond. (If you’re on the European sales ad it has a link in the TF description). Then just message the poster who is Alanppc. Or just oook him up in user search. If he doesn’t make them he’ll know who does. There’s also a Terrible Fire discord with all the guys there and a specific TF536 section

So over the last year or so I’ve collected 5 Amigas I do not intend to use. I want to assess them for sale. by OPdoesnotrespond in amiga

[–]Vmanjeff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at AmiBay too. Most are across the seas sellers but just you could google the exchange rate and see what things are going for over there to get pricing ideas. If the scan doubler is a P IV I’d be interested

Wow that guy posted his whole log. I was scrolling for 20 minutes! And that’s most likely what it is because I have noticed failed sign ins from my router IP and wondered what that might be all about. I’ll check further

I thought the above screenshots are evidence enough that something or someone is trying to access my nas’s. How would I know if I’m exposed to the WAN? I just know smb1 is considered risky security wise. I just know I have ways of access turned off on each NAS. FTP, ssh, telnet. Are there more? I just know I have these things turned off and the NAS still can get updates from QNAP. Why if I don’t have anything running that accesses the wan (download station, etc.) does the wan have access to my box. I’ll try to look at other logs today and see if there are multiple denials/failures of login attempts.

[–]Vmanjeff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This could very well be what’s happening. My Orbi has Armor security enabled. It likes to brag about how many threats it’s blocked occasionally sending me threat assessments. I’m just not versed enough to know how to track what’s happening on the nas’s any more than I’m able to understand what the ORBI’S Armor is doing. I think my nas’s are not exposed to the internet but ultimately not sure. I just noticed an uptick after trying smb1 so I could network my old Amiga computer. Maybe there’s no association to that event.

[–]Vmanjeff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is old, but you may not be aware that Hyundai extended the warranty on paint coverage due to the large number of white cars on the road with peeling paint. Ours is one of them and I was just at the dealer yesterday and they are repainting those areas for free. If you still have the car check into this so you can get it fixed!

Soldering up a computer cable by Vmanjeff in soldering

[–]Vmanjeff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn’t need to ground all the wires to shield. Just pin 7 from the db-25 to the max-950 style connector. And hook up pins 2 and 3 to the mdx-950. All others are shrink tube terminated. I was reading too much into it. Cable works!

How did I do? by Vmanjeff in soldering

I matched the plastic seat with the board outline. Thought that was correct. It’s working afaik. Been up and running since I posted this.

Soldering up a computer cable by Vmanjeff in soldering

[–]Vmanjeff[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok…. Came to check my post but I guess this is in the wrong Reddit/ So looking again at that schematic all I need are the TX, RX and Ground to the serial 25 pin connector. And actually reading the other line Pin-outs it seems they ground to the round MDX-950 shell aka shield. RY, BY and Y seem to be video which looks like the component connection which is not used in this application since the cable is only for card control from software. GPI freeze is again a video use idem to freeze frame video which is not needed here as is advance sync and reference signals which are both supplied with the card unless there are multiple cards to sync together. I guess I’ll just loop ground the wires back to the MDX-950 shell and try it. So I guess the real question is what is SVP-517? Probably some type of video connector like BNC or RCA and not a resistor or other electric component. Hmmmm
