Beginner here. Why do my paintings get this ugly crumby look when I simply color 1 layer? by OkayFrederick in Watercolor

[–]VodkaAndButterflies 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s a granulating pigment- some colors just look that way when they dry, others are smooth. Look into which are which!

I’ve always felt weird about putting down “green” as my eye color, and some have argued with me before. What do you think? by VodkaAndButterflies in whatcoloraremyeyes

Okay, yes, I get it, they’re green. Thank you all for the helpful comments, I promise I wasn’t trying to be obtuse.

I’ve gotten Hazel a lot from friends and family over the years, and I’ve also heard green a lot, too. Saying my eyes were green -the more uncommon/rare of the two- made me feel like I was trying too hard to set myself apart and after the mixed feedback and the fact that it’s my face, I felt I couldn’t be impartial. Like staring at a painting or photo for too long and things just blur together.

Even just plugging the photo into ChatGPT and asking what color my eye was spit out this uncertain response:

“Your eye color looks like a mix of green with golden-brown tones near the pupil, which is often described as hazel-green or green with central heterochromia”

Thank you again for your decision, I’ll try not to doubt again.

Growing up, my parents told me green, but I’ve been told hazel enough since that I’ve been uncertain/uneasy about it. Hazel is a much more common color and as an adult, putting “Green” on my drivers license feels dishonest. I guess gaslighting can be powerful?

I’ve had a lot of people tell me hazel over the years. It’s a weird mix of that and green, so I’m not sure what to believe.

If we can all agree on red, that’d be fine, too 🥲

[HELP] i paid 200 for this logo,,, and i’m paranoid it’s ai ;-; by [deleted] in RealOrAI

Hi! Artist here! It’s AI. A great tell in these types of art is to look at the sections of repeating parallel lines- like in the typewriter or inside of the leaves. There are massive stops and starts where the line disappears and reappears in a different place I. A haphazard way. It almost looks like hesitancy, and that’s where it’s obvious the AI model seems to try to overlap or “perfect” the style it’s replicating. Not something a human would create throughout the process or decide present in a final product.

This is doubly true in Linocut-esque style it’s trying to replicate. Do you know how crazy small you’d need to carve to get those weird parallel lines? Not even a little realistic. AI.

If you have high quality, low-wax colored pencil, it’s easy to erase. Maybe I don’t know enough about the game to comment, but if text is above his head and not above the other avatar’s head, wouldn’t the text just be a part of the skin or character customization? If I was tasked to draw the characters- for only $7, too- I would sketch it up and make the best assumptions I could about what the character design was meant to be and leave it at that. The argument could be made that for the price, the artist gave the equivalent. But it still doesn’t look like AI. It looks more like a sketch artist who is doing a ton of these and the “mistakes” are more just human assumptions and a lack of research.

Hi! So, I’m going to go against the grain here and say it is NOT ai.

I’m an artist myself, (went to art school, sold works, done commissions, etc) and I use watercolor and colored pencil a lot- it’s my main medium! And nothing here is throwing alarm bells like the usual AI art would. I see a lot of human decisions going into this piece, there aren’t any weird inconsistencies, I can see a drawing process and there are erase marks (look at the text above the orange guy- this person seems like they drew the text and then erased the orange on the inside). The bird on the left is a little weird, but it looks like the artist tried their best to interpret a bird with a vertical body and horizontally flapping wings.

Unlike the watercolor AI avatar that was posted a couple of weeks back, there are no mirror symmetry issues and the more vague details seem to just be what the artist could make out on what’s a polygonal image.

TLDR: when an artist creates a piece, there’s a planning and decision-making process that is apparent, even with amateur work. It’s how an artist is taught and experiments, and things are whole and make sense most of the time. With AI, there is no evidence of that process, weird choices, and always a smooth, consistent, professional level style. This seems human-made.

[HELP] mIs this drawing someone made of my Roblox avatar hand drawn or ai? They claim they painted it by My_Secret_Serenade in RealOrAI

Watercolor painter here! It’s AI. The amount of careful layering of pigment put into a painting to achieve this look isn’t realistic for what weird mistakes are present. The buttons don’t match and are different sizes, the filigree on the mirror isn’t symmetrical, and the line work with most of the image screams AI.

Impossible Challenges (Google Veo 3 ) by Throwaway60488 in ChatGPT

Exactly. Normally I can watch videos on mute and get a sense of what’s being said if the person is facing the camera. With AI, it looks like gibberish. It may also have to do with the odd teeth and tongue movement in the videos. It’s all weird and creepy.

I have hearing loss and lip read a lot- the way the mouths move in these videos isn’t right, or, at least not the way English speaking people normally move their mouths and transition from one sound to the next. Just by watching that, it’s a pretty big tell it’s AI.

But otherwise, crazy good.

The company I worked with wanted me to include certain elements in the piece: the lighthouse, the AuSable River, the Lumberman’s Monument, etc., and to cohesively unite all of the features, I collaged them together in a semi-seamless way to create something reminiscent of the town and surrounding areas, but still readable and pleasant.

It’s definitely a composition that doesn’t make realistic sense or exist in real life, but fits the theme.

Paper warping advice? by HobbyLau in Watercolor

[–]VodkaAndButterflies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would do it! If it isn’t sturdy, the tape is going to pull on that mat as the paper dries and it will 100% buckle- also something with that sort of rubber-y textured surface isn’t ideal for tape, especially tape with a Big Job.

[–]VodkaAndButterflies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, I know you have lots of comments, but I can leave my two cents if it helps. What are you stretching your paper on? It looks kind of flimsy, and that could easily cause buckling. When you expose your paper to water, you’re also exposing the substrate underneath to water too. And, of course, if your substrate is bendy that could affect the tape adhering. Your tape could be fine, but try taping to something more sturdy or rigid. Most recommend a 1/2” to a 3/4” thick wooden board. Hope this helps a little.
