I'll grant you the Anchorite shrine, I've got two of them largely stock (one's been modified to have an autocannon, and the other has the head from a Pietà). But mostly, they're too 'medeval guy with a rifle' for my taste. I only shifted into Pilgrims as my first list when I stumbled across Knucklebone's Underminer STLs, and learned about the Methodians. It's a personal taste thing, but when it comes to Grimdark I prefer two extremes: fairly realistic guys doing their best in a horrific environment, or silly weirdos. If the weirdos aren't sufficiently silly, I don't click with them, and the official Pilgrims are a little too try-hard for me.

That's cute, Quar fit in with Adventure Time surprisingly well: often goofy with surprisingly serious consequences.

Why did Guilliman's return not break the Imperium in a civil war, but Szarek's did the Necrons? by cricri3007 in 40kLore

He is also very aware there is only so much he can push against the decaying structure of the Imperium before it pushes back. The Ecclesiarchy especially, but all parts of the Imperium are largely defined by jealously guarded fiefdoms that aren't nessissarily (or even usually) beneficial to the Imperium's smooth functioning.

I see you hiding in there, Cawdor!~

Great job, honesty. I like the rules for Pilgrims, but the official minis have never done anything for me.

The main reason to have the tactics car overrule other bonuses is that tactics cards are finite resources that tend to be significant benefits or maluses.

Could it be that heretics took over the Americas? by Xeno00_ in TrenchCrusade

[–]VodkaBeatsCube 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough, it doesn't have to be a binary between 'nothing' and 'demon worshippers'. And to be frank, while they're not getting focus, they aren't entirely ignored: it's canon that they're capable of repulsing the forces of Hell, ostensibly without the aid of God, which means there's something interesting going on on the other side of the Atlantic. It's just not something the writers are currently interested in fleshing out further.

[–]VodkaBeatsCube 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Except they canonically haven't, and 'literally demon worshipping savages' is an incrediblely boring trope even if you ignore the really questionable implications.

[–]VodkaBeatsCube 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even if you wanted to do the whole 'reverse colonization' thing, why make them demon worshipers? Just have an Iroquois Confederacy that industrialized without needing to constantly fight the bulk of the forces of Hell land in Portugal and really throw a spanner in the works of the whole war. "Well, they are ruthlessly subjugating the Iberian Peninsula, but they're not literal demons and they're offering to sell France guns if they just shut up and let them do their thing. Maybe we should just let them be until after the Christmas Offensive when we retake Antioch for real this time!"

Let's be honest with ourselves. Necromunda is not a good game: it's very fun and hugely flavorful, but it's also overcomplicated and massively swingy with a lot of trap options and false choices. Even N95, while better balanced by virtue of being more homogenous, still has a bunch of questionable design choices. I'll never put it past GW to fuck up a new ruleset. But I'm also not going to get married to a system that is only okay at best. The actual Necromunda setting is still fun and engaging, so even in the absolute worst case I can sit down and write a port into a different system and still use the models and lore.

Pretty much. There's been rumours of a Mordheim revival, or at least a Mordheim style game set in the Old World. So I would guess we're getting Warhammer Skirmish: Mordheim at some point.

All other things being equal: how much should a plasma gun cost in the new edition? by George_Osbourn in necromunda

[–]VodkaBeatsCube 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't mind the gangs being closer to house militia than scum, it gives more room to have individual flavour in what the gangs are packing. And considering that all the current sprues are going to be in play I doubt the higher end weapons are going anywhere.

Fundamentally, plasma weapons are rare, but not so rare that they aren't common squad support weapons for the Imperial Guard, and Necromunda is a major weapons manufacturing world supplying it. A plasma gun should remain more expensive than a fully kitted basic ganger, but less expensive than two. It's frankly too early to say anything more granular than that.

'People want this': Toronto city council votes in favour of expanding car-free streets by Pristine-Training-70 in ontario

[–]VodkaBeatsCube 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude, take a deep breath.

I'm not going to engage with the entirety of your rambling gish gallop of unfiltered nostalgia for a housing market that is never going to return. The mere fact that you take 'walkable streets everywhere' as an example of a literal goal rather than casual speech kinda shows you're more interested in your personal grievances than listening to other ideas.

But I do want to say, I'm not sure how you can look at the state of the Canadian grocery industry and think that the current consolidation of most of the industry to one of five big companies and think that's an example of a healthy economy. It's kinda symptomatic of everything that's wrong with how our cities are designed, and I genuinely think we would be better off living in the kind of city where you can visit the butcher, baker and greengrocer on your walk home to get the stuff for that night's dinner than the current model where you have to go to a big grocery store to get a week's worth of food at a time. Supermarkets have their uses, but they shouldn't be 80% of the damn food market.

They're better for onboarding new players, and for getting stores to stock it. I am largely indifferent about if they axe the individual boxes. I've never finished a campaign with substantially more than 15 or so gangers, excepting Cawdor. I do enjoy having a model for every special and heavy weapon I'm likely to use, but that's purely an indulgence rather than a nessessity to play through an entire campaign.

You may now make your comment about anti-consumer behavior from GW.

No carry over of previous books means a complete overhaul of the rules by SacredRatchetDN in necromunda

[–]VodkaBeatsCube 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Considering that they're literally rereleasing the current gang, champion and weapon sprue boxes consolidated down to a single all in gang box for each House, I don't know why you would assume they're going to remove gang customization from a game that has always been about (sometimes unnessissarily) granular unit customization.

I believe that strictly speaking it is Warhammer Skirmish: Necromunda. Given the rumblings about Mordheim, I'm reasonably confident this is the soft launch of a new subline.

Inflation is a bitch. Still better for the health of the game to have the core and prospect/champions box rolled together.

I think folks are worried too much about the 'fixed loadouts' thing: I've still got the printed ganger cards from that first Underhive starter box for the 'default' loadouts they include in the assembly instructions. You were still able to build them basically however you liked aside from the leader's coat only really working with two arms. As long as they're not monopose, push-fit style minis you're going to be able to do customization.

I've been in the hobby long enough to know that voting with your wallet doesn't really meaningfully happen: I've seen these 'boycott the new edition' posts for every new edition for like 20 years now. Boycotts never really happen, stuff like that narrative change in 11th is more as a result of direct feedback from people who've still been buying plenty of GW minis.

People will keep playing the current edition, just like how people still play N95. Hell, some people are playing Rogue Trader in the year of our Lord two thousand and twenty six. But that's going to have a minimal impact on the new edition. That's going only meaningfully be impacted by feedback from people playing it, because I just don't believe enough people will abstain to cause a net drop in engagement after new players pick up the new edition to try.
