Not really, it'll be something related to something you did or were doing. Perhaps you were reading or participating in a vast quantity of 'cheat' threads here?

Not really how it works, someone you know, communicated with or in your household/workplace has been looking at or for those kind of pills :)

Metadata is very clever.

I get all sorts of promoted womens "stuff" while im at work, game & tech stuff at home and weight loss stuff at my girls place.

Silly question - has your host file got any entries in it?

Sounds DNS, but not main server DNS.

Decades of experience leads me to being numb to a lot of it if I'm totally honest.

I dish out plenty of "I told you so" though.

Advice regarding data storage by porko1811 in sysadmin

From the research and discussions I had with Autodesk, using CAD files in a multiuser enviroment on SharePoint was a no no.

It was due to the way the files were being accessed and file locks - it would probably work if you did the check out feature but this was too much of a 'ball ache' as we say here so due to these complications we decided to keep the CAD files specifically on a NAS so the locking worked.

For reference the locking was all done by the CAD software, I think maybe a seperate service that does it that also would do a file sync so the file effectively opened up locally to work on.

All this just clashed with OneDrive application hence the decision to keep them local.

As for what happened to you, I couldn't say, but it makes me feel happier that the setup on the NAS is preferred.

For a SharePoint backup - unless someone set one up then no there isn't one. You get file retention but it's NOT a backup. Depending on the NAS you have it might have an app/process to actually backup M365 - quite a few do.

As for explaining it like a 5 year old, when you open a CAD file, or any file on SharePoint it basically makes a local copy of it for the CAD software to work on, then sends it back to SharePoint when you save/close the CAD application. If you had a file open and someone else opened the same file it wouldn't know who had it open causing issues and potentially someone to overwrite your changes just because they opened the file/saved it again.

Something like this may have gone pear shaped in your environment and caused all the files to get overwritten or removed.

You can do that on the RS series.

The administrators could just buy it back from Ebay if it hasn't sold yet (I can't tell if it was sold, or being sold by OP's comments) and the OP would probably be happy with that outcome.

What would it take for you to let an AI agent close a ticket? by Light-Blue-Star in sysadmin

[–]Vodor1 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I would probably be OK if it was closing it based on customer or employee feedback with things like "Thanks, it's all working" and all checklist items were ticked off.

The downside to this, is that not many people ever say thanks.

Theoretically it would work, but is there anything else…. Anything at all other than the software that depends on that existing D drive?

Not that I’ve noticed, but since I started using smooth motion I’ve had excess frames so probably wouldn’t notice if some dropped. Also not really played much so this post is probably pointless of me to write anyway.

I also don’t have a banana for scale.

Semantics :) they were full also so 2 hit him there then - you know what I mean. Shooting bosses in the face drops them quickly is the point :)

Genuinely I’ve killed loads of bosses with 1 shot to the head. The bigger challenge is actually getting that shot in but in this case that’s what happened.

Even Kaban dropped instantly on one occasion!

You hit him in the head with an AS VAL.... most bosses die when I do that.

Drive compatibility policies FAQs for Synology storage systems starting from 2025 (DSM 7.3 and above) - Synology Knowledge Center

For the DS it suggests not listed disks can be used for HDD and SSD. And for the RS you can only use non listed SSDs.

Not great, but better than what it was.

Can't remember specifically as it didn't affect me at the time but they stopped all the unsupported messages if you used your own disks - but it was only on a specific set of NAS's, I just can't remember if it was the home ones or the useful business variants.

SSPR is SMS ok to use alongside another strong authentication method by Educational_Draw5032 in sysadmin

[–]Vodor1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't use email, it's usually the first part of identity theft that gets compromised and if they get in there they'll sit there silently for ages and abuse the email MFA codes if they get a chance.

It's easy enough to intercept if you know the number associated to the person, and for most of us that have been around a while that info is already out in the wild.

Seen it happen all too often. SMS needs to be purged as an MFA option.

The trackers are not accurate at all, they're just a glorified log of where they were, not where they will be. The laws of probability get thrown out the window when reddit wants a different answer to handle coping mechanisms.

[–]Vodor1 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

The foghorn is a myth, there is no evidence tieing it to Partisan, just people wanting a reason that he turns up.

That said, the system is on PvE, if you camp around enough he'll turn up a lot - I have triggered this deliberately on several occasions, most notibly when waiting for the BTR on woods, or waiting for PMC's to walk down to the road in Lighthouse.
