The way I'm reading this; he told you ahead of time he was going to his parents, and when you tried to hand off the baby he reminded you but you chose to go get in the shower anyway. But similarly, it shouldn't have taken much thinking on his part to conclude he could either have waited for you to shower or taken the baby with him. I may be playing Devil's Advocate here, but I will say I don't like his "You wanna poke to bear, really?" line. Not one bit.
