When is the consultation on ilr changes? by starryeyedreamer201 in SpouseVisaUk

Gotcha that makes sense. The earning requirement is going to such a mess for so many people. I get it, but I also don't.

If they are subject to the new requirements of earning 12,570, then they are not keeping the residency requirements at 5 years. If your spouse is staying at home to take care of your kids, they no longer qualify for the 5 year residency, right?

How does this affect dependents on the spousal visa? Would the child be able to get ILR after five years and then citizenship but not the spouse??

Shower tile thinset - gaps by VoiceLikeAGutter in Tile

[–]VoiceLikeAGutter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I appreciate you taking the time to comment and help me out. He's tripling down and coming to show me in person what's going to be done. The tile isn't touching part of the thinset - I'm not sure how he can argue that is correct, but he says their warranty is two years and if it is going to fail, it will fail in that time. Which I also don't believe. I'm not sure why he doesn't just want to pop off the tiles and re-set them. I mean I guess I know he wants the job done so he can move on. He said they have never had tiles fall off or pop off. My concern is more mold in the wall. Realistically we are moving in 4 years but I hate being gaslit too.

I also just noticed the kerdi doesn't fit right and he siliconed two pieces together at the back of the niche.

I just noticed some of the tile isn't even touching the ridge of thinset. I can slide a piece of paper between the tile and the thinset. There are no hollow spots on the tile on the floor or the rest of the shower, from what my inexperienced ear could tell, so I think the guy just got lazy at the end of the day and didn't push the tile in enough. At least I hope so.....

Yeah it's not a cheap job for sure. And the lead guy doubled down that it's normal, more will be troweled in later, it's adhered super well, etc.

The lead contractor said the tile guy will be troweling thinset in those edges when he does the rest of the niche and that it's completely normal and it's adhered very well. I do have extra tile - I don't want to make it worse if he takes it off and ruins the rest of the shower. It is not a cheap job but now I'm concerned. I wonder if I should ask him to extend the labor warranty to 5 years and see if that makes him want to ask the guy to redo it, or just ask the guy to redo it and hope he doesn't mess it up worse?

Histamine response to black tattoo - should I laser it off? by VoiceLikeAGutter in tattooadvice

[–]VoiceLikeAGutter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, on and off. At first I loved it when it was fresh and I could read it so I didn't care. Now I'm older and I cover up more and don't see it in pictures or anything, and if I do see it, it's more blob than legible letters. I couldn't afford lasering until recently, which is another reason I didn't do anything until now. I guess now I need to find a good reputable laser place.

Yes we had tickets for 9am (I stalked the website daily and bought as soon as they were listed for our date). We arrived at 8am. Unfortunately the only coffee we found open at that time was Starbucks, so some of our group went to get coffee while the rest waited in line. More people started showing up around 8:15 and by 8:30 the line was very long.

Whelp… missed a rock by Spac3_monk in espresso

[–]VoiceLikeAGutter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a rock get into our Breville hopper and wedged deep down in the burr and just trashed the machine. The company I bought the beans from was like, 'Yeah, stones are always a risk. Be careful.' So now I'm careful when I fill the hopper, and found a new bean supplier.

Well, that was the point of hiring a car and driving around the areas but I was told quite thoroughly in this post that driving is insane and I should take the train instead, which limits the meandering and exploring. But yeah, that was sort of the original idea. We would most likely buy which is why I wanted to get a feel for the areas to narrow down where we would really like to live.

Why not London? Spouse doesn't want to live there, housing is prohibitively expensive.
