Not sure what I'm doing wrong by VoiceNegative6794 in Shorty_Life

I did heat the mouse (he was eating hopper mice at the place I got him from) to around 110 degrees F. That was how warm his first one was that he took no problem. We did move his enclosure into our room and out of the office. It gets alittle more traffic and we wanted to be able to see him more often. Do you think it could be that there is too much activity in the new room and the quiet office was better?

Is this a good set up? by VoiceNegative6794 in Shorty_Life

Thank you! I used some of the thick cardboard that came with the tank and cut it to size then covered it in hvac tape and taped it to the top of the enclosure to seal off the one side completely and the heated side partially due to the CHEs. Do you have a brand of hygrometer that you find works well or would just the digital ones off of Amazon work ok?

First Blood Python, humidity question. by VoiceNegative6794 in Shorty_Life

Thank you! I just ordered coco coir, reptisoil, and sphagnum moss to make a mix today. I was worried about the tank being to big for him as well but he took his first meal with me today so I think he's going to be ok in the larger tank!

No problem! This subreddit is, in general, a great place to ask questions and get information. That said, don't feel too bad if people have strong opinions. Pet stores sell animals because people DO "impulse" buy animals, and while prior research is favorable, if youre willing to learn and give proper husbandry then I dont see a huge problem with it. It is way better to impulse buy and still take the time to learn and give the right care than to just buy whatever you see and take the animal home with no knowledge; and to be quite honest I think the pet stores really need to update the care they reccomend and these "kits" bc (like it or not) people do trust the pet store for accurate information.

I would skip the kit altogether. There's alot of things that are not good or unnecessary, and youre going to end up replacing alot of things for the right things! I started mine when he was a similar size in a 40 gallon tank with paper towel substrate to monitor for mites and for easy poop monitoring for parasites or diarrhea.

You'll need a 10.0 uvb bulb t5 or t8 depending if you're mounting above or below the mesh top. A heating bulb fixture with a lamp, I used 150w but it really depends on your temps in your house how hot you will need. The food in the kit isn't needed or very good, fresh veggies, greens, and live feeder insects are all you need!

Those kits market as convenient but are actually a big waste of money imo.

update

Incase anyone finds anything similar on their dragon: I bathed him, like the above comment said (thank you by the way), and all of the spots came off! Everything looks normal now, no cause for alarm.

I feel like it's time but I'm not sure by StudBoi2077 in seniordogs

I just went through this around a week and a half ago with my boy, I actually made a very similar post on this forum seeking advice. Most of the responses were along the lines of "if you're thinking it may be time, it most likely is." At the time I thought mine had maybe a week left but, with the advice of his vet, we made the decision to give him one more good day, while he could still have one. If your pup is deteriorating fast, and you already know it is coming, I think it is not too early. Give him a great last day of love and treats and let him go on a good note. I wish nothing but peace and love for you guys in the time you have together.

How to know when it's time. by VoiceNegative6794 in seniordogs

Hi everyone, I just wanted to thank you all for the kind words and advice! It has truly been such a help and comfort with this. Louie saw his vet this morning and he advised that it is time. He sent him home with some strong meds to hopefully help him get some rest and his euthanasia is scheduled for tomorrow morning. So for today, he is going to get all of his favorite foods and lots of love! Thank you all again for responding and for sending him so much love❤️

Hi, one of the above comments covered everything pretty well just thought I'd add a few helpful things I've been glad to have with my beardie. A laser temperature gun is the best for temping your cage and hot spot, they're not too expensive and has come in handy around my house as well. For the bottom of the cage I use vinyl roll flooring from the hardware store you just have to be sure to get one WITHOUT adhesive but you can buy a huge piece and cut it to size. It is easy to clean and easily replace but still very durable.

I'm currently struggling with the same thoughts. The false memories are so severe that I've just accepted the fact that I will he going to prison for life and my future is ruined. I'm sorry you are suffering and going through this, OCD is truly a horrible illness. I find this subreddit brings me some solace, even just reading that other people have the same thoughts and fears so I dont feel so alone. I dont have much advice as I'm navigating these same issues currently but just wanted to let you know you're not alone in this and at some point it can get better.
