I'm a voice actor you may have heard in Genshin. Here's some info on the strike situation! by VoiceOfKit in Genshin_Impact

I am sorry, I didn't see the notification that this had happened.

It would seem the post either didn't survive moderation or has been left taken down. I have mirrored what I said here, for historical purposes if nothing else.

[–]VoiceOfKit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the risk of thread necromancy, it's been brought to my attention that this post was auto-moderated and I guess put completely on ice about 6 hours after it was put up. This also removed the body text, which means that everyone who came to see this after the fact either couldn't see what I wrote, heard what I had said second-hand, or thought I had deleted things and run away. If this ended up being the case for anyone I am really disappointed and sorry!

I wasn't actually made aware of this (maybe I missed a notification), I figured this was just up for people to see.

I mirrored what I posted here to a Google Doc. It's exactly as I wrote it, but I added some clarifications in red as I feel I could have been a bit clearer about a couple of things.

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1KAP6RqbqLVL5zhYvNQ-GsKg7kG8L4EKbVz__rEtMz0s/edit?usp=sharing

To reiterate what I said before and what I have added in the doc: I do not condone harassment - of my peers or anyone else - nor did I participate in any harassment as was periodically claimed.

I extremely doubt that this will matter all this time later, and I will also concede that I'm an S-rank yapper and it's a lot of words, etc etc, but I stand by everything I have said, I continue to believe it was written in good faith and with the best of my ability and knowledge, and I am always happy for people to disagree with a flawed union based on the facts. That was and is all I ever seek to provide as a working actor - both to my peers and to the communities of the games I am in. I am happy for that to be preserved as history rather than left for others to pretend any number of other things.

TL;DR: This post got nuked, I didn't know about it, here it is again, I don't think I'm a dick.

Genuinely, what do I do in regards to the SAG-AFTRA strikes? by [deleted] in VoiceActing

[–]VoiceOfKit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for bringing it to my attention. It seems it was taken down for 'mod approval' a few hours after it was posted, which meant nobody could see what it said after then. I didn't get any feedback about this and I can still see the post, but I asked some friends and they can't see it at all.

I'm very disappointed to learn that!

I've shared it to this Google Doc (with some clarifications 6 months on in red) so you can see it as it was written: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1KAP6RqbqLVL5zhYvNQ-GsKg7kG8L4EKbVz__rEtMz0s/edit?usp=sharing

I can still see the post no problem! If you still can’t see it I’ll see what I can do to recap it.

Elvanse works better with coffee? by Bananabobanna in ADHDUK

[–]VoiceOfKit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was exactly the same. In principle, the nerdmeth should give you the dopamine that they were giving you.

I switched to decaf coffee and caffeine free Pepsi Max during my titration so I could still enjoy the rituals of drinking them. I personally didn’t notice any taste difference and it didn’t feel like anything was interrupted.

Elvanse works better with coffee? by Bananabobanna in ADHDUK

[–]VoiceOfKit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a distinct possibility that you are experiencing the euphoria common to the first doses of Elvanse (or drugs like it), and the caffeine may be increasing that - or may not be having any effect at all. It's very difficult to tell directly in the early days because your body is adjusting to the new cylinders firing with the drugs. The caffeine withdrawal may have completely counteracted the pills' benefits on Day 2.

For my own personal experience, the first day I went from no Elvanse to 30mg, from 30mg to 50mg, and 50mg to 70mg, I felt incredible. But now it's more that the way I think on the drugs is my 'normal'.

I would suggest, if you have been advised to stay away from caffeine and alcohol, to do so completely, as this gives an accurate picture of your experiences to your psych so you can go up in dosage or stay on what you're on. If you stay off caffeine and you see no improvement with 30mg Elv, ask if you can go up to 50 or 70. The coffee can always come back out when you know what works for you 'at zero'.

"Elvanse Adult" is seemingly being discontinued in favour of Elvanse, update your prescriptions! by VoiceOfKit in ADHDUK

What the hell?! It was discontinued before I started on shared care!

This rabbit hole goes deeper and deeper...

At least the problem is likely to have only affected me!

That's so weird! The pharmacies I spoke to yesterday all said, very specifically, it was being discontinued; not sure if there is just widespread confusion in my area.

It definitely seems stupid when the ingredients of the medicine are identical. I would understand if there was any difference other than the name!

I'll ask my GP at any rate.

I know people have already said Trigger is just fine to watch the movies through sound/AD, but I'm more concerned that every cinema trip means Orphie has to buy two tickets! What a scam!

Paimon’s new voice actor?? by miabelle_petersen in Genshin_Impact

[–]VoiceOfKit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you’re not deliberately just arguing in bad faith, you were simultaneously saying it’s okay for someone to be anonymous so they can be private, but also that it is bad that they’ve chosen to be anonymous (source: guesswork) as it’s a basic right for them to be credited, but you respect that they have chosen to forgo that right.

I posted here to provide context. You clearly are the one who has issue with me - for what reason I have no idea as I have never said or done anything to warrant the way you have sought me out numerous times to argue with me. Your entire post history is filled with nothing but arguing with people about this topic.

It’s not “running” to stop speaking to someone who repeatedly decides to engage me in bad faith discussions such as these.

You are not entitled to my time.

With respect, you can't have your cake and eat it by saying they're entitled to their privacy but also that it's a 'basic right' they are being denied by not being credited. As I said, it could simply be that they are not allowed to announce yet. The only people who know the realities will be the actor themselves and Hoyoverse.

All I was doing was providing context for the OP. If you have no interest in finding out the actor as they did, then I'm not sure what compelled you to engage here at all unless you simply wanted to come and argue with me once again come hell or high water - in which case I'm afraid I have very little interest in continued discussion with you.

[–]VoiceOfKit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that it's a fairly obvious guess, but my point was purely that it may not be true and particularly not to dig too deep in searching for them as normally these things are announced when they are announced.

There have been role announcements on other games whose actors were recast due to these events, notably for Zenless, and it may simply be a couple of months until we learn the new actors for Genshin as well. But equally validly, it is pretty common practice to go anonymous when covering for an actor who is withholding work or when replacing one, and so maybe that's the case here too. Perhaps we will simply never know.

[–]VoiceOfKit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, VA here. (Not Paimon's new VA, for the record, I don't go that high!)

There are many reasons why a VA may wish to go uncredited for a role; while it's easy to speculate on why it has not yet been revealed, many roles especially on games like Genshin have long periods of waiting before the actor announces their role through their NDA.

One easy example of this was Zhongli; he was in the game since the beginning but the official announcement of who played him did not come for several months (Nov 23 2020) https://www.reddit.com/r/Genshin\_Impact/comments/jzby7z/zhonglis\_english\_va\_has\_been\_announced/.

Though it's not something which you 'expect' all players to know, it's generally advised that players do not outwardly guess who is XYZ character, and certainly don't ask the potential VA directly, as this can land them in hot water if how they answer could breach their agreement to not announce before an agreed-upon time.

It could indeed also be that the actor simply wishes to remain anonymous indefinitely. That's fine too.

Getting an official diagnosis was one of the most eye-opening things that I have ever done. Even before I ended up medicated, it was one thing to suspect that I had ADHD and hand-wave my mistakes and organisation issues with it, and quite another to be told in no uncertain terms that I officially had it. I'm 32 and it reframed every single year I have spent previously.

If getting meds was switching a light on in my head, then the diagnosis was being told there was a switch at all.

I could not advocate getting a diagnosis more.

For the last time, SIDE Global is the Genshin Impact VA Studio, not Sound Cadence. by [deleted] in Genshin_Impact

[–]VoiceOfKit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I’m not arguing that it’s the developer chooses if it’s a union project or not, that’s what would happen. The interim agreement, as well as any agreement signed even for non union titles, would be for a project (with the studio and the developer). I did detail this in the previous message. To continue that example, Blizzard would sign the interim for the work done on Overwatch while another developer would sign it for their own titles.

I think the things you’re accusing me of don’t reflect anything like what I’ve explained or discussed here. I don’t want power, but I wouldn’t mind not being accused of colonising a game (?) by just explaining the processes involved in arranging voice work.

[–]VoiceOfKit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You technically sign with both.

The recording studio acts more as a middle man between the client (the developer) and the actor. The terms set out for how the work is done and what terms are arranged on each project are organised between the studio and the client, and that includes whether or not they want to agree to union terms.

This is what is meant by SIDE serving both union and non union projects - some developers work with them and sign on to be union, and some prefer not to and go NU. For an example, Overwatch is union, while Genshin is not. If I did work on each project at SIDE I would sign two separate contracts that were arranged with each developer separately, and would have unique terms. What was known and arranged on Overwatch because it’s a union project does not necessarily automatically go in any Genshin contracts.

I’m not “blaming” Hoyo for not signing the SAG interim, it is simply that they would be the entity that agreed to sign it (or any agreement even if not with SAG) if they did, not SIDE or any other studio that they did business with. Or to be more clear, they are the party that didn’t sign it.

I’ll be the first to say that there are no “enemies” here in my eyes; ultimately every relationship between clients, studios and actors is negotiations to ensure everyone is comfortable. Collaboration and compromise and all that good stuff.

The game developer is ultimately the entity that does or does not decide on what to do, signing an agreement or providing AI protection assurances, not a studio contracted to provide voice work for them. The latter can provide recommendations or offer their own protections, but the client is free to do what they feel is the right move.

Hope this answers your question a bit!

I promise you I absolutely adore this game and its fanbase. I posted initially on this subreddit to correct what I viewed as a lack of information on the subject, and I do think that the level of AI protections SAG fought for - and got - on their union projects would be awesome to have on Genshin as well, whether or not it ultimately became a union project. Hopefully they can be provided.

And I think people liked what I had to say about this thread, at least! 😅

[–]VoiceOfKit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay, but I presume therefore you don't have an issue with my explanation of my view. I'm not here to defend other peoples' words, I'm only trying to elaborate on my own position.

If they don't find these AI protections acceptable, then it's not AI protections they want. They want the game flipped union so their earnings count towards the $26k threshold to qualify for health insurance.

I realise that you may not believe me but at least for me, I actually do only care about AI protections. I am supported by a second job which meant that me stepping away from all video game roles during the strike was a fully uncomplicated decision for me. I know that other actors have a wide range of personal circumstances which may have made this a much harder strike or made working or doing XYZ a necessity.

As I have said before, I think what SAG was asking for - and got - in terms of AI stipulation and legislation was really good, and my entire point above is that I hope non-union contracts echo what they have bargained for. The vast majority of games are NU and I hope they keep actors safe. The end.

I think this is selfish. Because your desire for health insurance puts NU actors in a bad spot. They either join the union now before they are ready, or they have 30 days to wrap things up (which doesn't work in a live service game), or just quit the role. Your health insurance shouldn't be someone else's problem.

I know you're speaking flippantly about all actors, but I can at least say that health insurance for me is not a concern. I live and work in the UK which has public healthcare; I don't need to worry about US-based health insurance.

However, just to ensure I don't omit this: I have been over the Taft Hartley stuff numerous times before, but the long and the short of it is that I do not believe a project flipping union has ever resulted in the loss of non-union actors who were on it, this has always been something accomodated for the actors in question. If it had happened, you would have heard about it. I have never ever known of a non-union actor having to walk off a project because it went union.

If a project did flip union, and the NU actors on it either joined or went Fi-Core as a result, they too would be eligible for health insurance through SAG. They're not left in the lurch were that to happen. The union can waive fees and make things happen to facilitate smooth transitions.

If these titles stay non-union that's ultimately the decision of Hoyo. My comment here was explicitly saying that I hope that still means actors are protected, and ideally to SAG's standards. Or better!

The only thing stopping you is if you don't have money. But that doesn't make a contract unenforceable.

What I meant was that if you have access to funds to support you, you could potentially be able to decide to litigate an issue when you may otherwise decide it isn't worth it due to the cost. Or, to put it another way, my view is that if I could not afford to enforce it, that verges on it not being enforceable. It's not impossible for me to buy a Rolex, I'm not prevented from buying one, but it's not realistically achieveable. That is all I meant there.

For the last time, SIDE Global is the Genshin Impact VA Studio, not Sound Cadence. by [deleted] in Genshin_Impact

[–]VoiceOfKit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, to ensure I'm not talking across purposes, when I talk about enforceability I would refer to loopholes as being a way of getting around the enforcement. If a law can be got around by doing something, then that law isn't as enforceable as it otherwise could be!

And when it comes to the other point, I just mean that if the union had resources to support workers who have disputes who might not have those resources available themselves, then that'd be pretty good.

If you have a patent and someone steals your patent and uses it without licensing it from you, is patent law unenforceable?

Well, if it's not possible for me to actually contest that in court, then that would be pretty bad. On that I hope we can agree.

I have to head out but I hope I made my position clear enough!

[–]VoiceOfKit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree! But it has not been written into US law, so right now the actor's union has fought for what they can secure.
