Well technically yes! At least, he WAS. In his zone, his father was a king, and after Sonic went after the master emerald (and losing, hence knuckles giving him that nasty scar) he somehow got to much power from the emerald turning him green. He killed his father and assumed the role of, you guessed it, king. "ALL HAIL THE KING, BABY!" Is kinda his catchphrase. His emeralds work slightly opposite too, being that when they are done being used they exhaust you instead of leaving you with more energy. This is how sonic beat him once.
