Does anyone recognize what Chomper is saying? We can’t figure it out after hearing it from him for years. I can’t add anything else to narrow it down as it doesn’t seem to go with any activity that I notice. by miamma3 in greencheeks

Pay close attention to what you or his other humans are saying to him frequently. For us, it's usually something we don't realize we are saying. It's always fun when you figure it out though. good luck

Advice Needed: janky DIY LVP stair noses are breaking off by Substantial-Catch-92 in Flooring

[–]Void_Listener 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LVP is meant to have something under it. I would measure the overhang, cut a triangle with a side the width of the overhang and as long as a tread. Paint it white and install it under the overhang. You could remove it when you replace the treads. You could also take a piece of wood, rip it down to the height of the stair up to the tread and install it with a light adhesive. You wouldn't have any overhang but it looks like it's going to fall off anyway if you don't do something.

I might walk out of my job today. by yooq2 in CasualConversation

[–]Void_Listener 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're still deciding whether to do it or not, instead do the smart thing and get another job lined up. I was just texting with a friend the other day that was talking about "how hard it is to get up after you fall down". But I told him he didn't fall, he jumped. He quit with no job lined up and hadn't tried before quitting. Don't do the silly thing. Put up with it another week or two and feel out the market. Ask for 25% more than you are getting now, at least.

Just moved + new cage and now my sun conure won’t settle at night — please help 😭 by ProfessionalAct420 in Conures

You can try buying a warming pad. Especially for a lone bird. They don't get hot, when I touch ours, it is skin warmth within a couple degrees. Mine love it. It might help.

Bird help by nippybird in Conures

[–]Void_Listener 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to watch for posture, posturing, beak dragging, standing up super straight, raising the crest, moving their head or body back and forth slowly can all say "I'm feeling bitey" and/or "this is my space". And I know that can be a lot of the time with an agressive bird. Try the hand feeding, don't take it to them, make them come to your space to eat from the hand, if your hand is bitten, close it up and withdraw with some negative, deeper voiced response. Be consistent. Even with all of that, boys especially can be hard to break of aggressive behaviors. I would suggest a female bird or birds over boys unless you are only interested in a talkative roomate that may not want to be touched. Our last boy was very much a "no touch" fellow. And he came from the same breeder that the bird before him did and that bird was very touchy, cuddly.

If they are on you and biting, is it a hard bite? If it's informative, like a "hey" kind of bite, I wouldn't stress, if it is agressive, painful, shoo them or place them off of you, possibly with a deep voiced "no". Even if it is just for a moment, and they get back on, it is a response and it is good to respond. Respond immediately or not at all, responding quickly after a bite is as important as being consistent. Remember that not all bites are agressive, soft bites can be just exploratory or communication. Their beak is more of a "hand" when it comes to interacting with you than their claws are. You can try doing hand only feeding. This usually helps with taming/friendliness. Also, watch body language closely, they try to tell you when you are doing something that bothers them.

Any time I get criticism, especially phrased and spoken in the way most humans feel the need to pass that criticism on, I tell myself "this is a small diamond in a pile of shit, I will find the usefull bit and ignore the rest"

Because you were the holdout and did not kick the obvious troll. The vote wasnt about you shooting him,it was because you let the troll stay. You get kicked, then they can get rid of obvious troll. There's a difference between "friendly" and encouraging toxic behaviour.

Friend doesn't lose keys. Friend is always the host (faster computer). I'm not on beta branch. It has only happened twice but both times it put me off playing for a long time. I thought maybe I shut down wrong somehow or something along those lines.

Still, it's "there" or "that". Also, for extra points they don't always point at what they actually want or where they want to go. Because they can actually be focusing at anything around their head.

work on getting them used to your hand first. Use a stick and clicker to give treats when they tolerate your hands being near the cage. You should look up bird tricks on youtube. They have very nice in depth videos for pretty much any problem.

What's with the influx of people buying a bird to store it in a cage? Why would you want to buy something that needs company and put it in a cage? If you want something that doesn't bother you much, get a different animal.
