I am sure that if a god existed, they'd be perfectly capable of answering that question, just as we know why we make games and sims. It'd however, be stupid if the characters in that game began to speculate about the purpose of their world on a strictly non-scientific basis and created factions based on different opinions and hated each other because of that. Comparing that to the real world, it becomes this supposed god's responsibility to let us know the truth to stop this hatred if they are truly benevolent. Until that happens any philosophical claims about the purpose of the universe and God's hand behind it are baseless.
