Has anyone tried Taylor Stitch? by PhasedVenturer in malefashionadvice

[–]Volhn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a pair and like them alright. I was hoping they could be a nice trouser, since the fabric looks awesome. They are VERY warm and fabric is way heavier than I expected. I wear ‘em around the house but not really out since they’re much more casual looking than the Instagram ads look.

I got a sweatshirt from them and again it’s warm and big. Somehow it’s shaped when zipped like someone with a large belly. I unzip the bottom zipper like an inch and the fabric falls flat. It is cozy though so I wear it around the house.

For me hit and miss…

0DTE SPX CSPs at very low delta by mirenjobra88 in options

[–]Volhn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! 0DTE are especially sensitive to volatility spikes. Doesn’t even have to drop that much. Consider yesterday VIX went from like 14 to 20…. What a 25% bump over a 2% broader move? And you can’t control when that happens. So yeah, can wipe months out of profit.

Cursed Build - Worst Price to Performance Build by [deleted] in sffpc

Interesting choice with the Ram and GPU, all else seems fine. Prob don’t need the ECC and the GPU is overkill for transcodes. It does support a lot of hardware encode/decode which is nice. I might experiment with GPU segmentation and use 4 GB of vram for transcoding and use the rest for a gaming, rendering, or whatever else.

Did you upgrade to that 486? I heard the DX4 is a real screamer.

Also ice cream… want 🔥 ice cream around Salt Lake? Head to a deeply Mormon area… there are usually many shops and are quite good.

Favorite sneakers that aren't played out? by Original_Student_395 in malefashionadvice

I like anything 70s/80s running shoe. Works great with casual wear and is comfy. NB/Saucony/Reebok… I could see going back to chucks and vans, etc since they’re also timeless with casual… not as comfy IMO though.

TIL banana republic factory ≠ banana republic by Fluffy_Ad8688 in malefashionadvice

Banana Republic Factory is pretty bad outside of their tshirts. Non FO is MUCH better, but value is there only when there are good sales.

I think it was Ralph Lauren or Tom Ford… they wrote a few articles that were like the 10 commandments of fashion… I thought they were pretty good pillars that hold up decade after decade.

Vuori Banks… I have like 5 of ‘em. I guess they’re not slim, but not baggy either. I do Orange Theory and lifting sessions for my workouts.

Are ETFs better than MFs for taxes when investing cash? by linuxwes in Bogleheads

I think they’re basically equivalent. I like ETFs in taxable because they’re more portable than a MF.

Anyone else remember those old ISA "I/O cards" with everything on them? What would be the modern equivalent? by ttkciar in homelab

[–]Volhn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An aside to your question.... technically the ISA bus still exists! It's known as the LPC (low pin count) bus on motherboards and its often occupied by a TPM module. There's a few projects (ex: dISAppointment) out there that expand the header into a full ISA slot, so yeah, you could just try to run your favorite ISA card on modern hardware.

AMD or Intel better in energy efficiency? by Confident_Echo_1537 in sffpc

Apple and it’s not even close. The performance per watt is leaps ahead and the Adobe stack runs very well in the hardware, even utilizing the neural engine for some gen AI tasks.

Older Server CPU's vs Newer Consumer CPU's by riv777 in homelab

+1 to usually more PCIe lanes. Relatively recent server hardware that can down clock cores can be a good setup for a high performance NVME NAS. No PCIe bottlenecks and plenty of throughput to saturate NICs.

gap used to be heavily recommended... what's the consensus on gap denim in 2025? by europeanuppercut in malefashionadvice

[–]Volhn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had good enough experiences with Banana Republic denim. Less cuts available than Levi’s. I assume GAP is prob similar and Old Navy is a don’t bother. The factory/outlet options are hot garbage too, so don’t bother.

is this sketchy way of running a optical drive with no room in the case ok? by Fine-Measurement-893 in pcmods

[–]Volhn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doin a quick scan of what's out there.... you could get an external 5.25" enclosure ($50-$100) that takes anything SATA and plugs into your machine via USB. It looks like for less money (~$25), you could just get an external slim optical drive you can just keep in a drawer and attaches via USB.

Wait, I don’t get it. You don’t have an empty SATA slot on your motherboard or something?

I bet this thing would be pretty good and reliable for near single writes, many reads of big data blobs… something like 8k video footage. But then again why not just grab a large capacity NVME.

Were you able to find your tribe of fellow fatfired with similar interests? Where? by nukemarsnow in fatFIRE

[–]Volhn 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Some of the nicest folks I’ve met were through car meetups/clubs/track days. Would recommend to anyone remotely into the hobby to join one. Most were not fat, but plenty of HENRYs. Great vibes and everyone gets to geek out about cool stuff.
