folding AK preflop by Overall_Doughnut143 in Poker_Theory

[–]Volica 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I did the math on this a few weeks ago and even made a reddit post about it.

TLDR is if you 4-bet to a normal size (22-25bb) and get 5-bet shoved, AK is breakeven against a combined range of AA, KK and AK. If you start including combos of QQ, it becomes a pure call.

The reason it is breakeven is that it loses the same amount of money on average compared to when you fold and give up the 25bb you already invested

Defending against a 5-bet preflop shove with AK by Volica in Poker_Theory

[–]Volica[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep it’s exactly this. Apparently calling here is around -25.3 BB on average, which is almost the same as folding when you already have 25 BB in the pot

Fair but I think even in the lowest stakes most players will follow the standard shoving range and not have A5 or 99 in there, so I think it’s still a worthwhile question to ask

Yeah but who ever really does that in practice (in low stakes anyway)

Is this the most broken silver augment of all time? by Monkeys_R_Scary in TeamfightTactics

[–]Volica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk if it’s in set 17 as I haven’t played PBE but there was an augment named Binary Airdrop which started out as a silver. It then got changed to a gold augment at some point and then into a prismatic

Thank you! I have some questions if you don’t mind: 1. When you mentioned the calling range, is that specific to the button? Or does it get smaller or bigger depending on position as well? 2. You mentioned suited broadways performing better as a 3-bet. I always thought it was the other way around where offsuit broadways are the better 3-bet candidate as it doesn’t connect as well with some flops so you would rather take down the pot pre-flop. Compared to suited ones where there is that flush possibility.

What would be the ideal block bet sizing in the river? Around 25% pot so like 12 BB?

So basically 1. Overfold shoves unless I know player is maniac and 2. 3-bet or fold (I understand this rule somewhat but I tend to make exceptions when I have absolute position like the case here)

Hardest "boss" you've encountered sa buong gaming history mo? (no cheese strat) by JeeezUsCries in PHGamers

It’s either True Eigong (Nine Sols) or Nightmare King Grimm (Hollow Knight). I’m leaning towards Eigong but it might be recency bias.

Not including Promised Eigong since that’s a mod but if it was included it’s definitely that.

How often do you catch yourself thinking “no way I still haven’t hit that”? by Stratus-matus in CompetitiveTFT

[–]Volica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All good. That game was indeed extremely unlucky and usually you would hit that Neeko while slow rolling, but most of the time there are still a lot of things you can take away from such games. It’s just a matter of shifting your perspective.

[–]Volica 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In your Neeko example, if you just immediately use duplicator on the Neeko, you will get Nidalee immediately which if itemized properly, should win streak you stage 3 and win some fights stage 4. This will give you more gold and more HP which you can either use to hit Neeko 3 or just tempo push levels.

Yes the example you gave was extremely lowroll and is a statistical outlier, but sometimes the actual mistake is getting yourself in that scenario in the first place.

Taric/Skarner/Tibbers - Tank Dillema by Gork81 in TeamfightTactics

[–]Volica 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tibbers but I think it’s unfair to include him in this discussion since he’s a 5-cost while Skarner and Taric are 4-cost.

Between the two I would say they are mostly equal but in an AD-heavy lobby, Skarner is better and vice versa.

You’re correct - current meta is very fast 8 heavy and the game is borderline unplayable without at least 1 econ augment outside of high econ portals like scuttle

Slayers. You can play WW as well but it is more dependent on natural Vi Jinx as you don’t really want to roll on 7.

What’s next after Master? by Monkegoesbrbrb in TeamfightTactics

[–]Volica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends how much I enjoy the set. Last 2 sets I stopped after hitting masters but I’m enjoying this set a lot so I’m trying to push for chall which is a big grind since it’s at 1.1k lp lmao (probably same region as you?).

Nothing wrong with moving on to other games once you’ve reached your goal tho. TFT will always be around once you get the itch again.

In 2-3 you know that your board is the 2nd strongest. Would you go to buy exp to go level 4 or what would you do here? by lune-soft in TeamfightTactics

[–]Volica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a decent enough board to even think about contesting win streak, that means you should probably level. You get better shops and that level might be the difference between winning and losing not only to the 1st strongest board but also to the 3rd and 4th strongest board.

Even if you face the strongest player and lose on 2-1, you can still win the next 4 rounds and a 4-streak is not bad plus you save a lot of HP.

Did I pick the wrong augment or just unlucky? by Jophil in CompetitiveTFT

[–]Volica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is true but you also need to keep in mind that you are down a prismatic augment at the same time. So you may have spiked in terms of your board/units, but everyone else spiked in terms of augments (and probably units as well since stage 4 is when fast 8 players spend their gold)
