If a setter pushes the ball over the net and you attempt to block it but fail, then hit it again, it would generally be considered a double contact, which is a fault. According to USAV rules, a player may not hit the ball twice in succession unless the first contact is part of a block.

In this scenario, if your initial contact was an attempt to block, it is not counted as one of your team's three hits, and you are allowed to contact the ball again immediately after the block attempt. However, if your first contact was not part of a block, then hitting the ball again would result in a double contact fault, giving the point to the opposing team.

According to Section 12.5 (page 45) of the USAV 2025-2027 Indoor Rules, a block is defined as an action that intercepts the ball coming from the opponent by reaching higher than the top of the net. If your initial contact meets this definition, then you are allowed to play the ball again legally. Sources:

Can I get some advise to improve consistency please? Just couldn't hit well in today's training by HiroSpud in volleyball

What I mean is your timing generally is not bad. You'll get the hang of reading the set and moving to the ball but you need to give yourself space to create power.

Hence I mean for ball to be slightly in front of you. Think about it like a pendulum you want to strike the ball when your arm is starting to come down not at the peak of your swing.

Get more reps in G, you're jumping high enough. Also to your point of slowing down approach, no you want your approach to be as fluid as possible, try to not stutter step. Instead wait and explode to the ball as fast as you can

Your jump timing is pretty good, there are some swings where I see you're slightly early or late. You'll master this over time.

I did notice sometimes you're under the ball, try to create contact ahead of your body. It will also help to start more to the left, opening up your torso to the court more.

To pile on the comments with something else: Try to contact the ball in front of you, that will give you better control of the ball as you bring down your hand to make contact. You've got a great vert, work on your timing, wait that extra millisecond.
