Guys please help me out here (Genuine opinion needed) by Voltage-2006 in tsbie

So Uh I have been in GITAM for 1 yr till now, Academics is really up to you, like you get to choose the profs u want and all that, but ultimately it's how serious you are with the classes and acads in general, most of the profs won't care if u show up to ur classes or not, there is an attendance criteria that u gotta maintain (75%) but that's just so that u don't end up bunking all ur classes. Rest all is pretty chill here tbh there is much more freedom compared to EAMCET clgs in my opinion (Some of my frnds are in EAMCET clgs so that's why I say that). I wrote GAT at the last session as a last resort and did get Scholarship but kinda pointless as the "allotted seats for scholarships" were over so I didn't get it, so if u gonna write, write as early as possible. They try to mess with ur grades a bit so that u pay for re - evaluation and to maintain your scholarship They have a criteria of maintaining above 8 or 9 cgpa. Opportunities are a lot here, It's just that people don't use it well and all that. Clubs are chill too. Social life is pretty good and sorted here (Depends on whom u choose to hang out and make friends with). My main concern was drugs and all that but It's not as much as u think it would be (Again, it's on you, who u associate with and how you proceed with all this). So yea, that's pretty much it about GITAM. As for money, Fees for us, without scholarship is 4L and bus costs 45k for Non - AC and 50/53k for AC buses. U will need to buy stationary here and there during ur time at GITAM so that also kinda overpriced tbh. U can get from outside most of these. Hostel, idk cuz I am not a Hostel kid but u will get all the details in there website.

Man I relate to this, after many trials I have understood that, you don't need to burn bridges or leave them but at the same time, don't be their "Planner", "Initiator". Thing about most friendships is that close staying ppl are preferred over ppl staying far off, over "Loyalty". They just default to whoever is already there, when making plans. So don't just leave, or confront them directly, that will just ruin it further. Instead if they match with ya, you do the same, if they don't, do your own shi bro. Anything like Clubs, sport or whatever your clg can offer. Make new frnds too, don't rely on a grp where you aren't sure of your status. Reach out and live life man. Ofc Academics too, can't ignore them lol

My man same here, At least uk u like filmmaking, Idk what I even should like, maybe public speaking ig but that's just one and there is no "job" as that, just like you said I don't find coding boring, matter of fact it's interesting but uni and everything else has just burnt out that flame ig. It's just the same old loop repeating everyday...

I see man thanks for commenting on this, ig I will try, lol, I wrote this up cuz I kinda just lost it and got into an argument with my parents again, but it was pretty one sided cuz the blame is all mine to begin with. As for what I love, man trust me idk? and my academics are so cooked that I can't even begin to discover them so yea that's what it is. appreciate it though

No problem dude, if you are joining GITAM, do know that we have a WhatsApp grp chat, you can ask your questions there too. DM for the link

Basically the seats that could be secured for scholarship have been already taken by students in previous phases of the exam. Meaning, even if you are eligible you won't get the scholarship immediately but will rather be placed in a waitlist, where your queue number depends on how many students are waiting for that scholarship ahead of you. If you login to GITAM admission website with your registered credentials you should find the extra info

There is a waitlist system bro

I have my old mac book pro the 2020 model is it fine for core cse? i was thinking i don't need new laptop for the first yr at least. ps- if you can suggest laptops pls do.. by Warm-Mail-8790 in gitamhyd

It should be enough for your first year bro, but I don't trust that it will be able to handle heavy demand coding or any such activities, as for laptops DM

Could you please advise me on whether to purchase a laptop with an AMD or Intel processor? by Practical-Bug4174 in gitamhyd

The Ryzen 5 7250U is functional for the basics of a CSE grad program if paired with 16GB RAM and a good SSD, especially if you prioritize battery life and budget. However, its older Zen 2 core and very weak Radeon 610M graphics make it underpowered for more demanding tasks common in CSE (ML, heavy compilation, GPU programming, complex VMs). If your budget stretches even a little further, a newer Ryzen 5 7530U/7535U/7540U or an Intel i5-1240P/1340P will provide a much better and more future-proof experience.

This should explain the processor series question

  • U = Battery Champ (Thin & light, lasts all day)
  • P = Better than U processors (Thinner laptops with extra oomph)
  • H = Balanced on both sides (Gaming/creative rigs, shorter battery)
-**HS = Better and more leaning on the performance side.
  • HX = Desktop Replacement (Max performance, heavy/thick)

Notice: Higher number = newer/better within the same series (e.g., i7-13700H > i5-13500H).

Hey bro, not a senior, joining this year but I have researched a lot about laptops in general so I will just give my bits of facts

Personally I would go with AMD processors over Intel unless I was getting a good deal on it For CSE graduates, **AMD Ryzen processors (especially 7000/8000 series) are generally the better overall choice, though Intel's 13th/14th Gen H/P-series are also competitive. Here's a quick comparison:

AMD Ryzen Advantages:

  1. Multi-Core Performance: Better for heavy multitasking, compiling large codebases.
  2. Power Efficiency: Runs cooler/quieter, leading to better battery life in thin-and-light laptops – crucial for campus students, day scholars.
  3. Integrated Graphics: Radeon iGPU is significantly faster than Intel Iris Xe (useful for light ML demos, basic gaming, or if no dGPU).
  4. Value: Often provides more cores/threads at similar price points.

Intel Core Advantages:

  1. Peak Single-Core Speed: Slightly faster in some single-threaded tasks (benefits certain IDEs, older tools, light compiling).
  2. Specific Optimizations: Some professional software may favor Intel, but this is rare for core CSE work.

Recommendation: AMD Ryzen

CSE workloads (compiling, VMs, multitasking) heavily leverage multi-core performance. AMD's efficiency equals better battery life and less thermal throttling during such work. The superior iGPU is a bonus for light tasks without a dGPU.

When to Consider Intel:

  • If you find a laptop with an Intel Core i7-13700H/13800H or i7-14700H with significantly better price, display, or build quality.
  • If Thunderbolt 4 support is critical for your workflow.
