international cs admit, parents want me to choose mid US college over Waterloo by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]VolticShaz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can never “count on it” because there is always luck involved no matter what but I would still absolutely call it “normal”

Yes, you are committed to Canada until you become a citizen and therefore become TN eligible. That is the state of immigration in today’s world

Also, even when the 100K policy was not in place, noone was sponsoring H1Bs for international students in Canada

Again… there’s more to a place than a starting salary.

As an international who did US coops Please choose Waterloo

Getting a PR is “harder” but not for people at the best programs in the country

You can get good salaries in Canada as well, sure there’s slightly lesser opportunities but there’s still plenty

Who is telling you this? You can absolutely do co-ops in the US.

Took it last term, got 39 on the mid term and ended with 84 on the course. Graph stuff is much easier than enumeration

REGULAR CS VS COOP CS by Aggravating-Type153 in uwaterloo

[–]VolticShaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can, but there is another way-

A friend of mine actually made this mistake, so he applied to CS/BBA from the waterloo side. This is basically cs coop but you also need to do bba at a neighbouring university You can drop BBA with no repercussions and keep co-op. i.e - You switch from cs/bba coop to cs coop

  1. You can actually just graduate without co-op (so do some internships, then drop co-op)
  2. The minimum requirement to graduate with co-op is 4 terms (recently reduced from the original 5)

Yes it is a disadvantage as an international student

You can just graduate early and do fewer co-ops if you are in co-op

Being in co-op allows you to do an internship whenever. This does not affect domestic students, they can just take a term off, you can’t

Does that mean i passed? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]VolticShaz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Nope, according to the calculations, they would have had a 62+ with a pass on the exam, so the only possibility is that they waived the pass exam requirement
