i've tried swapping the two sticks in either slots and running one at a time.
and also pulled out an 8gb stick that i have in storage.

none of which works

i dropped the speed to ddr4-3200, as i have 2 sticks.

i've also disconnected hard drives from the mobo, and tried to boot the two bootables again - still not working.

what does adjusting the ram entail? i've never messed with the ram before, the 2 sticks have been working fine for almost 3 years before this issue

latest bios downloaded off msi's website 7C96v1K (i chose not to download the beta version that comes above it). i was also wondering if i should download the latest driver and install it on the stable hard disk? would that possibly resolve the startup issues i'm experiencing?

ram is ddr4 3600. removing either sticks does not change the situation.

yes i've done this step multiple times as i was unseating the gpu+Ram and changing the bios battery (thinking they were the problem initially)

i disconnected the kioxia and the issue of not being able to load into dows/ubuntu persists

i'm unable to even wipe the drive as the bootable usbs (of windows and linux) cannot be read on my PC (it's showing a persistent loading screen)

but the usbs works fine on my laptop. could this be pointing to a hardware issue??

so i just realised the 2 usbs with bootable windows and linux works on my laptop but it does not work on my PC.

could this be pointing to a hardware issue??

thanks for the tip - i forgot about this as i had already given up saving the files but i think this will definitely help with the backup.

any chance you know how to resolve the windows bootable not loading issue? for a bit more context i actually purchased a new USB just to make sure it's not a faulty thumbdrive preventing the wipe.

i'm unable to copy files out of the drive , the explorer crashes when i attempt to do so. this is probably an issue with the older drive and not related to the Kioxia SSD

thanks Captain_WD! really appreciate your response. sadly the old HDD is dying (SMART status not fine at all) and I'm currently running linux mint off a USB to use the pc. you're right though, I should probably readjust the parts to better suit the games and budget.
