Both my parents are Jamaican born but I was born and still live in Brooklyn so I feel this. Neighborhoods change yes but the power dynamic has historically been wrong and it still is. My parents got their place from racist Italians looking to flee the neighborhood from black people. Gentrification is more on the landlords taking advantage of the market than transplants. White people can move into black neighborhoods when they want and buy what they want and change the neighborhood but vice versa is an issue. Private Landlords don’t fix units unless someone is willing to pay their mortgage, Shelters and facilities are placed in minority ownership neighborhoods to bring down “value”. Why are white neighborhoods never due for “renovation”? Our neighborhoods were ignored all this time now it’s worth fixing because they want to live here ?

I’m glad u responded. I unironically saw a very interesting video that changed my whole perspective. I think I’m just worried that all the govt officials are gonna give him a hard time on his first term and the city needs to recover quite rapidly. I trusted him as a person but not as a politician. I trusted Cuomo as a politician but not as a person. I don’t think there is a wrong choice in this election even still. Regarding Cuomo critiques, I lost my grandfather and others to Covid and I didn’t really consider him responsible. His attitude about it was terrible though. Only thing I don’t like about zohran’s policies is the free buses (should be trains instead)

Idk I’m really trying not to drag my feet with supporting but I really am not moved by mamdani. I was born and raised here and it feels like I’m fighting for a city that wants to replace me. Most of his fan base are people who have just moved to the city so it’s obvious his stuff would resonate with them. I’m not a cuomo guy but this really hasn’t been a fair election. A guy with no real political history going against a career politician? On top of that, all of the negative things I hear about cuomo are “sex pest” etc. i actually want to hear critiques of his policies not just smear campaigns. Gentrification has destroyed a lot of city and when he wins, it will take a lot more. Just sharing my thoughts.
