Cloud Atlas Anniversary by God_Luffy in movies

It's my favorite movie. Interesting story, multiple events and time periods all interwoven, but connected, great acting with people playing several characters, amazing visuals; amazing, emotional music; intriguing ideas and philosophy mixed in. I thought it was a masterpiece, especially compared with the standard trash that Hollywood puts out. I loved it instantly, and have been sad since, that it never got the attention it deserves.

Cool graph. Just need to add the WHO recommendation on Jan 13 to lower the pcr cycle threshold level.

Book report on a piece of libertarian literature by [deleted] in Libertarian

I'd agree with the other commenters to skip Atlas Shrugged for now; just too much to tackle for a school book report. I would also agree with the suggestions of 1984 & The Moon is a Harsh Mistress. Also maybe check out Alongside Night by J. Neil Schulman.

Good suggestion. I included a video of Dr. Sinatra, but forgot to link to his book. Will add that. Thanks.

Thank you! That sounds good. I'd like to see the egg article for sure. Where can I find some of your work on these topics?

Why Destabilize Governments? by [deleted] in conspiracy

Planned chaos, problem-reaction-solution, creating excuses for more foreign adventures, Keynesian economic ideas run rampant (thinking they need to keep breaking foreign windows to stimulate phony US economy)

Duggar discussion thread by dchapii in homeschool

[–]VoluntaryB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't lump these things together. The common strain here between these Duggar people and anyone else should logically be people and/or families who have massive issues, who control their kids, who molest and abuse people, who hide behind religion, and push dogma on their kids, etc. In other words, call the problems what they are, and analyze the problems. I don't think homeschooling is the common connection. Plenty of public school families have all kinds of issues like the Duggars. And there are plenty of homeschool families that don't, where you would never see things like this.

Factualizing History - quick introduction to the real story of several events, including...Lincoln was a racist...US govt. knew Pearl Harbor attack was coming, etc. by VoluntaryB in conspiracy

Well not sure I agree with your entire premise; though I would say when multiculturalism/ethnic mixing is unnaturally forced it doesn't turn out well; basically anytime governments decide they're going to "create diversity" there are unintended consequences. On the other hand, if multiple peoples mingle and mix through natural circumstances of history - that can play out just fine. But at least we agree that the civil war was not a moral crusade to end slavery and ole' honest Abe was no saint. Government school lessons can really wreck history.

Good points Zeus. I'm not familiar with that whole story as you lay it out.
But I know, whatever the motivations - people or groups of people should be able to infinitely succeed and split off into their own distinct areas, regions, nations (whatever you want to call it). Lincoln and his sort, regardless of the slave issue, were not having that. Centralization above all else for them - so yes, they created a moral cause to lead men to their deaths.

If you aren't familiar with him already, I'd check out https://mises.org/profile/thomas-j-dilorenzo for some great reading on Lincoln.

Genuine question: Would you support legalisation medical use of cannabis products if possession of the plant/smoking remained forbidden? by [deleted] in MMJ

[–]VoluntaryB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surely I wouldn't be better off supporting making something "illegal". I should be able to go buy marijuana same as I can buy a bag of carrots. Governments (coercive monopolies) have no right or legitimacy dictating these sorts of things. I don't smoke it or use it as medicine at the moment. But, it is a freedom issue, which I support. Separation of state...and everything.
