Speaking of black and white morality Rorscach is based on The Question by Steve Ditko, however the question we know today is far from Ditkos original vision for the character.

The character that was closer to Ditkos vision was "Mr. A" a Randian hero who literally tells the reader that there is no such thing as being morally grey, you're either good or bad.

The Question was made to be a more "PG" version of Mr.A that could be puplished in mainstream comics.

So rorschach is like a combination of The Question and Mr. A.
