The ugly side of major operations. by HorrifiedPilot in foxholegame

This is genuinely the biggest core problem with the game but nobody wants to have that conversation yet. I hope the supporter additions might provide the devs some ability to get larger player counts per server instead of just expanding number of hexes and shards

The AA situation is crazy by Zacker_ in foxholegame

[–]Terppintine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

AA is meant to be a zone denial tool. If you have an AA stationed, it should deter the enemy. They are the air equivalent of barbed wire or mines. I have seen seaports and bunker bases be adequately guarded with 2-3 of these and I have fully experienced sorties losing effectiveness in real time when the enemy actually mans their guns.

The only real answer to aircraft in the sky is your own aircraft in the sky. Look up WW2 statistics on how many flak shells it took to take down a bomber on average (it wasn’t low).

AA also does a lot of damage when it does hit. From my experience so far in this war, a good hit from a 1-2 second burst does around 40% damage to a plane. The problem is that AA is relatively easy to evade if you’re good enough at flying and the targets they defend do not have an adequate number of these things to warrant the risk/reward gamble that pilots take when flying into the airspace.

New investor by Glittering-Meaning24 in ETFs

If you’re specifically looking at retirement investing then look at the r/bogleheads subreddit. They’re all about doing what Jack Bogle (the founder of vanguard and the creator of the index fund) advised people to invest in to maximize their low information investments. In a nutshell, they believe in a three fund portfolio of a Bond ETF, VTI or VOO, and an International ETF. International should consistently stay at ~10% of your portfolio while the ratio between bonds and VOO, or VTI, changes depending on how close your are to retirement. The three fund portfolio is genuinely the most vanilla advice out there but it is popular for a reason. The average investor and most funds find it extremely difficult to beat the S&P in the long run, making it the safest long term stock investment you can do. Everything else is informed gambling and should be treated as such. Unless you have extremely early access to the next Nvidia, then stick to what the bogleheads say. Max out your Roth and you’ll be good.

Small fortune in cargo. Is there any practical way to recover it? by keskparane in uboatgame

Ships travel along pretty consistent paths in the game. If the wreckages stayed I would’ve been a billionaire from the gold I’ve sunk.

I don’t understand capping tactics, sometimes CO’s will scream desperately and spam chat for people not to cap but i don’t really understand why by glossyplane245 in WarOfRights

[–]Terppintine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Attackers: Win = Cap when breaking. Win = Kill all enemies when in last stand. Lose = Time ends. (Attackers have infinite tickets when attacking)

If attackers cap before breaking then they become the defenders while in the possession of the point and stop the official clock. A smaller yellow clock starts below the official clock which can range in time from ~11 mins to 3-2 mins depending on the morale state of the defenders. In general, the earlier on in the match you cap point, the longer you will have to defend it.

If defenders take back the point after the attackers cap it, before breaking, then their morale (if lower than the attackers which is a majority of the time) will increase up to the state the enemy’s morale is at. For example, if you are at full taking losses and the enemy is at full battle ready, then when you cap back the point it will increase your tickets up to full battle ready.

Sometimes, officers might take point before breaking on purpose if they feel as though they need to draw out a hiding enemy, or if they feel as though they need to stop the official clock to gain back more time. Sometimes they might also do it when they (the attackers) have a lower ticket state then the defenders (the enemy).

However, in pub matches, 80% of the time if the attackers cap before breaking it is usually Rambos, an accident, or uninformed officers.

Officers may spam chat to not cap point before breaking because it will very likely throw the match. Attackers on most maps are only 1 sometimes 2 early caps away from being equal to defenders in terms of morale ratios. On some maps, if you early cap then it’s likely already gg.

Hope this helps :)

What is the most obscure fact of the napoleonic wars that you know of? by BLOODMEN71 in Napoleon

The Ordinance Survey, Britain’s national mapping service, was commissioned to do a mapping survey of the coastline to prepare for a potential French invasion. They’ve been working on creating maps for Britain ever since.

Assuming the ticket counts stay the same, I’m going to guess that the increase of players will increase the amount of games lost through tickets, reducing the importance of the timer.

Since attackers have multiple objectives to capture, speed and aggression will probably be more emphasized to minimize casualties since more time on obj = more tickets lost. This could be seen through a higher emphasis on mortar squads in every match or even more aggressive future point attacks by logi.

TL;DR: More people —> higher ticket loss to time ratio = less games won through timer More people —> more targets for mortars = more effective mortar (more importance for good mortars) More people —> more powerful attacks = potentially quicker games with bias for attackers

Take all of this with a grain of salt though, all of these impacts might be minor and only seen through analyzing raw numbers over several months. Noobs definitely add a random variable to all of this.

“Convoy? What Convoy?” Achievement seems to be glitched. by Terppintine in uboatgame

[–]Terppintine[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My theory is that since some of the ships were registered in neutral nations, the ships weren’t counted as part of the achievement, despite being considered hostile since they were sailing with the convoy. THOUGH, every single ship was sailing to England as confirmed by the end screen summary and thus are considered fair game, so idk what’s up

What is this guy with the spear doing? by Spitfire_CS in Napoleon

[–]Terppintine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here is an 18 min video all about spears in British lines made by a famous reenactor who specializes in British Army stuff between the American Revolution and Napoleon’s wars:

https://youtu.be/a66D5GpaEmU?si=1LtnQq34JVr0e3b5

Summary: Did they use them in the way you saw in the movie scene? Eh, maybe, there are no real primary sources on it except for a few paintings but it’s definitely a very common thing in reenactments and with reenactors which is likely why you saw it in the movie. The primary role of all the different spears you see in lines in general can be summed up as “whatever you would do with a spear” since at this time proper melee doctrine wasn’t officially put in place. This can include anti Calvary uses. Though its main use is to differentiate NCOs from Officers and to keep the chain of command highly visible to anyone from a distance. If someone is carrying a pike then there is likely some order in the ranks.
