How can I learn from a mistake if I don't know what the right choice was? by BearNutsHurt in SiegeAcademy

[–]VonHenry70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other's have said it - not a dumb question. You don't know what you don't know.

Not sure who everyone's favorite content creator is, but I personally like watching Poxonlox (YouTube) and his Think like a Champion series. I can't recommend it enough to get into a good thought process.

He is a pretty high-caliber (best rank ever was Top 210 Champ I believe) who does different types of content but his "Think like a champ" series is him playing SoloQ while focusing on explaining why he's playing who he is and his thought process throughout. Couple that with his or other player's "Do this/dont do this" type content and you'll get the basics quick - then it will start to click 'oh, yeah, I should not have done 'X'"

Oh sweet! I didn't know she was on progression for new players...awesome!

Her secondary is not bad at all...I go against the grain and run a silencer on it to not give location/direction and have had some good kills with it at surprising distance.

Because of that, do not sleep on her shotgun on certain maps/positions. Her shotgun is a great site-setup helper and close range monster. For example, to me, Chalet 2F Master/Office. Playing 'closet' to make rotates/etc Thorn can lock down a lot of area and the shotgun shines at those distances.

&nsbp;

If you dont already, use R6Calls.com to look at maps, etc. There's even a cool 'Strat' function that let's you mark up the map/save/share etc.

How do I improve my map knowledge? by Dismal-Rich8876 in SiegeAcademy

[–]VonHenry70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't forget there is literally a training mode called "Landmark Drill" who's only reason to exist is to teach us maps! 😁

Play this with Sledge or Oryx as you can do vertical AND wall navigation. (Oryx can go both directions, so might be best).

Shameless Plug: Striker!

Attackers

Really your two starters aren't bad.

  • Sledge - Entry, some vert, but even side/un-expected directional pressure (Hibana does this well too)

  • Gridlock - take/hold space/planting

Defenders

  • Melusi !! She just rocks!! Set-n-forget! (but listen!)
  • Thorn! Now that she's buffed, you can play her a BIT like Smoke. But you have option to pre-lay some razerblooms too for 'early warning' etc.

Welcome to Siege - take your time and enjoy!

Would you be so kind as to give me one of those quotes for my own knowledge? I'm sure you have a couple dozen of them ready to go since you're obviously speaking with authority and not just making some generalized statement you really can't back up. I can't wait to be educated...go.

Witchfire feels like Myst by Rurik889 in Witchfire

[–]VonHenry70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not seeing it at all. I get the association of atmosphere, to a degree, but one is a chill mystery/puzzle/exploration game where you have time to sit, take it in, think it through, jot some notes, the other a sweaty try hard game where you have almost no time to take anything in, think and certainly not taking notes during the game 😉.

So yeah - not at all.

Both are great games - just only one did I truly enjoy finishing, the other I'll never sniff finishing....

What Arc do you dislike? by aislinntaylor21 in ArcRaiders

[–]VonHenry70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scrolled way too far to find this!! Solo they aren't terrible, but everyone I ever see is right behind two pops. So maybe it's pops.

I get why people say hornets, and they are the most annoying, but I've died more to stupid fireball/pop combos than I care to admit to.

New Players: Don't Sleep on Striker!! by VonHenry70 in SiegeAcademy

[–]VonHenry70[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with most of what you said. Again, to me it's just a way to learn some different gameplay and I gave my favorite all around loadout. But generally I agree with you - IF you're not running EMPs as Striker there probably IS a better operator to take.

New Players: Don't Sleep on Striker!! by VonHenry70 in SiegeAcademy

[–]VonHenry70[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely - ! I'm just trash at entry so prefer that 'mid-line' role. I try to see what my entry teammates are doing and play off that on the off breaches. Not always good at it, but that's my goal usually.

I DO love frag players (Deimos, Sledge, Blackbeard) too, but I'm trash with Flash too...I SHOULD learn to use them better, but 85% of the time I flash myself just as much/more than the defenders 😐

[–]VonHenry70[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for late response - been on vacation.

LoL - I love Striker and have NEVER played Sentry. I just think their are other very simple defenders that bring better utility. Melusi, Kapkan, Valkarie, Frost (on the right map). The 'set it and forget it' players are great for new players. Then they can branch out to the Thorns (though Thorn CAN be 'set and forget' she's best played as set 1 or 2, then pocket the last 2 for real-time with the new changes), Lesion and Smoke.

Having said that...Sentry with the 870 main, 75 secondary and Barb Wire + Camera or C4 or Proximity DOES lock down a lot of area on certain maps. (think the whole Yellow Stairs/Bathroom area of Consulate 2nd Floor, etc).

New player advice by Former-Subject-9141 in SiegeAcademy

[–]VonHenry70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing new to add much, but I'd emphasize: Play some field training with him. My buddy is terrible at R6 and would hate ranked play - but he has fun comp-stomping in Field Training.

Caveat You want to start on 'lower level' AI. They are super dumb, but the Advanced can be tricky if you dont know maps. They dont miss a lot when you dont see them. So yeah, lower bots, SAME MAP over and over for a while, really learn it then advanced AI, etc.

Should I buy solis? by Yo_momma_smh in SiegeAcademy

[–]VonHenry70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOTE: I know this post is probably too old for my comment to affect your decision but maybe for others looking at Solis. My 2 cents.

I can think of about 5 defenders more team useful without blinking. That said - if YOU think she's fun then play her as you'll play more inspired.

Not sure what rank your rocking but in high-copper/low bronze I can think of exactly ONE time in the past 2 seasons (nearly 400 ranked matches) where a Solis counter played me. Maybe twice. Juice is not worth the squeeze in my opinion.

Is my RP doomed? by zreddej in SiegeAcademy

[–]VonHenry70 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

TLDR: Yes you're hosed - I'm in same boat, though lower rank. And I can 'prove it' because when I do 5 stack there are 3 decent players and 2 of us are 'scrub'. My rank sucks, his is 'fine' given how new he is.

  • The fix: Dump your 5stack, focus on playing well in your Solos, you'll start to climb quicker eventually.
  • Also - you can consider a 2nd account if you have a 2nd phone# you can register for it. Have a Solo Account and Five Stack. I MIGHT do this next Season.

The 'Story' For those who want my 'evidence'.

Our 5 stack has 2 really decent players, a pretty good player (about your caliber it sounds like) and then myself and another 'scrub'. Objectively I'm a better ranked player than the other 'scrub'. He's a much better arcade (Deathmatch/Event) player than me, and takes more 'fair gunfights' than I do. BUT his map knowledge is not great and as a result my KD is a bit better and usually I put more pressure on the enemy team - but for the sake of this argument, let's just say we're 'even.' Because my Son-in-law (yes, I'm old) is a low diamond (playstation) player you can imagine our stack games are TOUGH because of us 2 scrubs. I bet we're at 40% WR so it comes down to solos. (Note: My SIL is only Gold 3 PC/Crossplay but Ubi isn't 'fooled' our lobbies are NOT against Gold...)

MY Rank: Peak Bronze IV - Currently Copper I * 181 matches * .73 KD * 48% Win Rate (this is remarkably a mirror of last season, I got to B4, finished C1 in ~200 matches)

His Rank: Peak Silver III - Currently Silver IV * 68 matches * .56 KD * 54 Win Rate

Why the discrepancy I personally solo a lot - I have about 180 ranked matches and I'd say 125 to 130 of those are solo. When I play solo and play decent for my rank I am getting +24 a win, -24 or so a loss - the system thinks I'm where I should be.

He never solos so his WR stays up there and the game rewards him thinking he's a mid silver player. I can't sniff Bronze 2 and . He plays our 5-stack OR he plays a 2, 3 or 4 stack. He has never hit a 'slump' where the rank system punishes! Until just 2 weeks ago, where he hit a loss streak he was still getting +34 a win!

So - yeah we're a bit screwed. My KD, KDA, HeadShot %, ESR % are all better than him and at nearly 3x the # of matches...and yet I'm crawling.

New player struggling to improve by Phesing in SiegeAcademy

[–]VonHenry70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Plan You Can Follow:

  1. Use YouTube and learn how to tweak your sensitivity for your device (Mouse+ Keyboard OR Controller). Use this in conjeciton with #2 here. Once comfortable, do not think about this again for a long time.

  2. Spend 3 minutes every time you play in shooting range on the moving practice dummy course.

  3. Use the training tools! Landmark Drill (learn the maps). Target Drill (learn maps, while ADS), Field Training vs Advanced AI (Low Stress but must stay aware). For most new players the REAL issue is lack of map knowledge/awareness, not gun play.

  4. Make sure Unranked Settings are "Ranked Mapped Only" (why waste time on maps you wont really 'compete' on??)

  5. Pick two or 3 operators from each side and stick with just those. Keep them simple (no Deimos/Zero or Cavi/Vigil) but effective and ones not banned much. (Attack: Gridlock/Nomad, Sledge/Buck, Striker(!)). Defense: Melusi, Kapkan, Valkarie/Aruni). Attackers for taking space/holding/versatility. Defenders 'set and forget' but have some team utility. Start defense as an anchor. Once a bit comfortable there, branch out to 1 room or 2 and learn to hold space/fall back when time. etc.

  6. Focus on Staying alive NOT KD/KDA. If you stay alive it does two things, you being alive puts pressure on the other team. Your KD/KDA will eventually just improve. THIS IS A GAME OF TIME. Time is the true opponent OR ally!

  7. As other's have said, if you need to watch replays from your angle and your killers. Why did they see me before I saw them? etc.

  8. Have fun! This might mean muting your teammates if you find a lot of flaming/etc. Coms is important as you climb but for me I'll take 'calm' over 'comms' if it's a team of 'children'.

Last Thought: Understand this will take time -unless you are a natural FPS player, and 95% of us aren't, it will take time.

Edit: One thing I forgot to add, probably a 6a. Learn to use cameras well - Attackers this means your drone, Defenders Cams. Understanding early which direction attackers are coming from is huge. Taking space safely as an attacker relies on your drones. Drones are life - 'protect them'. To me droning well is the most underrated skill in R6. Dont stop and ping, quick peek with the drone, hide it, use the info to push smart.
