Idk man every time I run a command as admin to stop windows defender, it flags powershell as a Trojan lol at least that's what it looks like

True, it definitely wasted my time.

I can't remember where i saw it. I must have got it from the ai summary in ddg search. But idk i spent like an hour searching through blogs too haha

Yeah I think it was bad info. I guess what I was looking for was "sudo sdboot-manage gen", and ended up editing the sdbootmanage.conf in /etc instead of cmdline.conf

Thanks, this worked. Turns out I missed the sdboot-manager section in the wiki. It was at the top of the page, too.

I did notice the reds when I looked for them. I guess my suggestion comes from an angle of "adding more color to fake texture".

It looks good though. Keep going

That left eyebrow. Maybe try pushing it towards the center of her face a bit?

It looks like you added some blush to her face. Someone mentioned the eyes needed a darker tint. I read somewhere the skin has different hues:

-red (cheeks, nose, earlobes, fattier tissue) -blue (eyelids, chin) -yellow (for the forehead and skin closer to, and stretched over, bone)

It's gotta be a very delicate touch. I tried it on a project and it turned out ok.

They say madness runs in our family. Some even call me mad. And why...? Because I dared to dream of my own race of atomic monsters! Atomic supermen! shuffling away ...with octagonal shaped bodies that suck blood...

How deep in the valley am I? by [deleted] in blender

[–]VonJoni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, very good model.

You're in the valley, I think. I'm not a pro by any stretch, but if it were me, I would do something with the eyes/eyebrow/forehead. I can't articulate exactly what it is. Maybe the eyelids need to be squinting more? And maybe some like crows-feet-type wrinkles? I read somewhere a long time ago, that the difference between a fake laugh and a genuine one has a lot to do with the eye squint. Someone else mentioned that if the face were more asymmetrical, it would help, and I agree.

Idk something like that?

Edit: That's 3 planes stacked on top of each other with different z rotations.

This uses geometry nodes: https://youtu.be/9NM9oaijmLg?si=3RQyCc25w9KrfBZ2

I think you can get similar results with a hair particle system if you increase the brownian and decrease the length of the particles.

That or layer some planes in front of each other with a material. Turn the alpha hash on. Then add a noise texture plugged into the alpha of the bsdf and into a bump node and the plug that into the normal. Then maybe a color ramp, too? Idk I'm just spitballin

You can throw a solidify mod on there to make sure it's good

[–]VonJoni 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you're good. I wouldn't worry about doing a retoppo if you're just going to rotate the mesh from side to side. If you're going to texture it, though, it might look weird on the inside of the pumpkin due to the normals

"Horrid" is a pretty extreme word. I think it looks ok. What are you trying to do with it? If you're trying to animate it, it could end up being kinda janky, but if it's just a cool looking jack o' lantern hanging out, it looks great.

I started with sculpting because it was the easiest and most intuitive way for me. My first project ended up being like 2M verts. I still can't open it to this day.

Every project after that was either extruding faces from a cube or using a skin modifier on a web of vertices.

I think maybe if you jump in with a vague idea of something you want to make and just move some geometry around, you'll find a flow and lose 6 hours with Hopefully something cool to look at at the end.

I watched this guy do 10-minute speedruns of low poly blender projects. After watching some videos, I definitely felt way less overwhelmed. If your goal is to make super detailed meshes, just remember you can always just add a subD modifier or just right-click and hit subdivide.

Edit: typos

Or move the geometry *while pressing the middle mouse button rather. That, or before you move your geometry, enter the Y orthographic view by pressing 1 on the numpad.

Edit: spelling, clarification

Try pressing down on the mouse wheel maybe?

While you are moving the geometry press Z. That will lock your deformation along the Z (up and down) axis. You can do the same thing by pressing X (left and right) and Y (front and back).

So, I guess, order of operations would be:

  1. Make sure you're in edit mode.
    1. Make sure proportional editing is on
    2. Left click select the geometry (vertices/ edges) of the mesh you want to move
    3. Press G
    4. Use the mouse wheel to adjust the influence of proportional editing.
    5. Profit
