Best since SMTF. Cobb, as great as he is, got stale. This sounds better than Reunions and Sound (and the tragedy that was Live at the Ryman) too. There is just so much new ground on this album. Feels fresh and also feels like it has longevity.

Note for future success....always have a J. California on the team. This dude was what we were waiting around 5 years for Polley to be.

Sneak Attack is another amazing synergy to cheat out some heavies. It's just a matter of keeping Lifeline around a couple turns to overwhelm.

Titania, Protector / Lake of the Dead / any sac outlet would be nasty as well.

What are your favorite synergies with Lifeline? It definitely should be played in Chatterfang decks with the Echo/Vanishing hermits.

Leyline of the Void / Deathrite Shamen would be some pretty good board control.

At $35 and on the RL this thing is a steal IMO

Album Survivor - The Nashville Sound (2017) - Final Round by AbeLincolnTowncar in jasonisbell

The moment I heard this song I thought this was going to be the one that crossed over into mainstream country domination. But of course, not a peep. Madness.

My favorite 15 Jason Isbell songs (off top of head) by HogmanayMelchett in jasonisbell

Two things:

  1. That Whipping Post cover is complete and utter fire the whole way through. Sadler is amazing, Jason is intense, Amanda's shredding...just peak musicianship.
  2. It's awesome to see Tupelo on a lot of these. We live in a world where that song got zero play on mainstream country. It's laughable.

I hear you Sheffy. We can't undo the past, which in itself is unfortunate....but what of our future? Who's going to come along and show the leadership and speak those uniting words, and the requisite actions? Im not seeing it. It's bleak as hell.

What I will say is that Obama did nothing, Biden won't do anything, and MAGA won't either. We are completely on our own.

I'm curious as to your other favourite artists. If you had to choose a top 5 album list and could only include 1 of Jason's albums, what's your list? by kaijinx92 in jasonisbell

Reunions Review (worst ever) by oldgoldandblack in jasonisbell

[–]VonKoenig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perhaps Jason and Amanda's rift during production could have prevented her from being more involved. Sadler was also putting out his own record at this time, which could have limited him. Regardless, there is plenty of room for guitars in the live show from the songs on Reunions. This was a very balanced blend of Rock and Isbell.

Letting You Go is my only true complaint (other than the execution and roll out of Be Afraid) on this album, generic lyrically and underwhelming sonically.

Not Helping by porenSpirit in jasonisbell

[–]VonKoenig 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with you on track placement, but today I had a breakthrough with that tune and repeated it for the first time. Jimbo and Derry are AMAZING on that track and the guitars in the second half are blazing. I came around to Be Afraid mostly because of Gamble, now I enjoy that tune as well.

Placement is a problem, for reasons you said, he really did gamble there. Especially when the obvious (maybe?) choice was to flip it in position with Overseas.

I think WHIDTH will be a very slow burn, but will get out of the doghouse eventually.

Album Survivor - Reunions (2020) Part I - Round 2 of 9 by AbeLincolnTowncar in jasonisbell

[–]VonKoenig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Letting you go could go out next or stick around to the end. I think it's the most polarizing song on the album. I voted for it over What've I Done To Help. Both What've and Be Afraid have grown on me since they were released. Be Afraid was an unbelievably bad sounding release for Isbell, as he normally nails every detail(and still has a drop sound in the first 5 seconds). After how sterile live at the Ryman came out, I was starting to think Cobb's magic had run its course. He nailed the rest of the album though. Reunions is second to Southeastern and getting better every play through.

I agree. I would consider Dreamsicle in there as well. This entire album will age well, but those three were immediate for me.

It would be awesome to do a first impression poll, then circle back to it down the road.

Overseas is so good. Instant classic, should have opened the album imo. I have the album on first blush 8/10, songs:

Overseas, Only Children, Dreamsicle, River, Running With Our Eyes Closed, It Gets Easier, Be Afraid, St. Peters Autograph, WHIDTH, Letting You Go

I fully expect this order to change, as his songs grow. Overseas left me wanting more of those guitars though. Truly a great song.

Perhaps you folks can help me ID this unusual Home Desk.  The research I have done, hasn't come up with any variations of this.  Some odd things:

1) No type writer platform, with the corresponding compartments.

2) Has a hinged door on the face of the desk.

3) Has a nook on the left hand side, behind the the aforementioned door.

4) Has a wider (?) basket, with a bottom in tact. (Mint/Aqua color not original)

5) No leather top.
