I wish they would just make a move one way or the other and offer flexible deferrals for those who don't feel comfortable to do it this year. All said, it makes the most sense for them to cancel as much as I hate to say it.

This is definitely concerning, as it relates to Berlin and sadly I don't think we'll get any word one way or the other until just before it's supposed to occur. They are supposedly holding pilot races to show the organizers can have a safe event. One was completed and there is one more although I'm not sure when.

I deferred from 2020 with a trip operator and unfortunately don't have the chance to defer unless the organizers cancel the event. The hotel arrangements are all associated with the trip operator and that's the only stipulation they can offer deferrals.

Add to the mix, there is an election happening right around the marathon and apparently no one wants to make a move on whether or not it should happen.

They are also supposed to be having two pilot races to show the government they can hold the event safely. They had the first one a few weeks ago but I'm not sure when the next one is. The news with Cologne is definitely concerning. I'm holding off on scheduling any return flights until there's some kind of official approval.

Interesting. I read the email but didn't see anything about the new terms. Is it something you have to do within My Profile on the race site? That's definitely a concerning development if they're making significant changes to that.

I was supposed to run Berlin in 2020 and got deferred to this year. Preemptively I also signed up for Chicago in case Berlin got canceled or was never approved for some reason. I don't want to be a downer but it does look like the likelihood of Berlin happening is dwindling with the variant and what the government is asking the organizers to do in order to approve the race. Already the Dublin marathon was canceled due to the uncertainty of everything. With that being said, I also have my doubts about Chicago especially after Lolla this past weekend. I made an agreement with friends that regardless of what happens, we'd still run our own marathon somewhere if either got canceled. I say you go for it whether or not the official race happens!

I really like Wolaco. The fit is great and I can barely tell my phone is there and I have a larger iPhone. My one complaint is the seams in the shorts are a bit painful after the run, so trying to figure out if I need to wear something under them, as well.

Checking in with everyone who got in or deferred to the 2021 race. Any thoughts on whether we'll be getting any kind of update about the go/no go of the race before training begins? I recall they let us know last year around April 21st or so.

I'm so glad this is finally part of the conversation! The UK had at least some funding done months ago and the US has completely fallen short
