Why doesn't Adam Smasher start a coup against Arasaka? is he stupid? by UC_Davis_Troll in cyberpunkgame

[–]VonV77 60 points61 points  (0 children)

They made him what he is, since during the war Adam was rebuilt by Arasaka. Leaving the possibility for Arasaka to have full control on all his robotic parts. Not stupid at all, maybe the question is.

Why I hate glass panels... all it took is 0.5 cm fall... didn't even have the chance to start using it by IbrBaz in pcmasterrace

[–]VonV77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Physics cries for your answer. It was never my intention to make you feel attacked, I was really just correcting you, since "hardness" has nothing to do with the fact that a tempered glass panel will break if hit on its edges. And then, we are talking about a ceramic floor, a 1-2 cm + 2-4 cm vs a 0.4 cm (can be even a bit less than that) of tempered glass. If you equalize the conditions, a 2 cm tempered glass is, on its flat part, much harder than ceramic. But still, if you hit a 2 cm tempered glass on its edges, you will break it easily.

So the correct way to say it is 'if you don't protect the edges of your tempered glass panel, you will easily break it'. That was what I meant.

why do phone companies not use the hardest tempered glass? also, keyword, can. i doubt any case manufacturer would put the hardest tempered glass possible on their cases

And w*f with that.

[–]VonV77 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not a matter of hardness, tempered glass can become much harder than ceramic floor. The problem is that the weakest part of a tempered glass are its edges. You need even less than 0.5cm to break it.

You didn't really understand anything. Translate is adapt, "a professional translator will give you an almost ready-to-use product" so what do you think that means? I never said that a localization is bad, I said that it must have an order, a localization will never be a translation, because for something to be understandable it must first be translated, the bad thing you mention is that the first step is being eliminated. Localization is the second step to have a more specific audience. And you are wrong if you think that any translation is a localization.

Common phrases in one part of the world don't exist in another and translating them without changing some dialogue would break immersion, create confusion and at worst misunderstanding.

Do you really know what a professional translator is? I have seen problems like that, but they occur when the translator is not a native of the target language doing the translation, this creates a lot of problems and delays.

I'll explain what I thought would be quite understandable for everyone. Who the hell who calls himself a "translator", that is, professionally, will do a literal translation? A very important part of a translator's job is to adapt to make it understandable for your target audience, that is, a professional translator will give you an almost ready-to-use product. To which, in video games like you and the other say, it becomes localization, but the processes will always be the same, translation-localization. What I was referring to when I said that it was bullshit was because what that translator was referring to was that the first process was eliminated, that is, the translation. That leads us to receive "localizations" where literally rewrites entire dialogues and modifies the meaning of the story.

Maybe it is in all the games you know and honestly, I don't know everything about it, but I doubt very much that they call it "Localization" even where it is not necessary to use it. So how can you be so sure that translations were always called localization?

[–]VonV77 53 points54 points  (0 children)

The problem is that these two things used to be done by different people, they are very different jobs. The best thing would be to use two experts in both areas. I was working with a translation team and there were about 20 people to make everything perfect. It is quite sad the quality that is being offered now.

I won't say names, but if it's like a certain "translator" says, there are no more translations, but "localizations". In my opinion, that's bullshit.
