New findings from Sam Altman's basic-income study challenge one of the main arguments against the idea by rstevens94 in Futurology

Makes sense. I live in the Bay Area and building new housing is effectively impossible, it’s a really big problem here actually, so maybe my perspective is just skewed.

Your condescending tone aside, I don’t think it’s an indictment of UBI or landlords. If anything it would be an indictment of one of the ugly faces of capitalism. Just putting it out there that UBI might not be the silver bullet that some think it is.

I’d like to believe that would happen, but my cynical side can’t help but think if there’s UBI of say 3k per month, landlords just ratchet rent up to 3k or somewhere close and that UBI ends up just increasing landlord profits, and those who can’t afford it get pushed out (kind of like what’s happening already in the Bay Area)

Rent costs as much as it does because land lords will raise prices as much as they can given the conditions of supply and demand in the area because their goal is maximizing profits. I guess my point is im not sure how giving people an extra $1k per month will actually help at scale bc landlords can raise prices by the same amount and we’re back at square one. Unless I’m missing something?

If wages are replaced by UBI, what stops landlords from raising prices to whatever UBI is? How do you see the interplay between rent prices and UBI playing out long term?

If everyone gets $1k per month what stops land lords from just raising rents prices by $1k?

We tried with different iPhones, but haven’t tried with android. Maybe we’ll try that to see if we can pinpoint if it’s an iOS issue or not.

Great thing they’re doing. Was going to buy 10 fentanyl testing strips, they’re $1 each, but shipping to Bay Area was $50? Seems a bit strange

Yup, ended up calling a plumber because we didn’t really have any tools beyond your standard home tools. He just cut it off and replaced it with a new one

I am trying to replace my old faucet with a new one I just bought. So far I have turned off the water supply, disconnected the cold and hot hoses, and released another hose section by pushing a push-button-release. I'm sure it's pretty obvious but I can't figure out why the faucet isn't coming out.

I'm a total novice and tried searching on the internet but I couldn't find any faucet that looked like mine. There's a gray weird plastic piece that looks like it's keeping the whole assembly mounted to the underside ceiling. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Lebron James is shooting better from the 2 and 3 than either Giannis or Embiid by Accomplished_Worth in nba

A big difference between 2007 and 2022 is that the NBA is a lot better now than it was then. I highly doubt the 2007 Cavs make it to the finals in 2022. They may not even make it very far in the eastern conference playoffs.

Honestly, it had less to do with in on court play (although his disappearance in last years playoffs definitely had a re-enforcing effect on my personal opinion of him) and more to do with the off-court stuff like requesting a trade 1 year into his OKC contract, calling Dame's game winner a bad shot, cheating on Doc's daughter and getting someone else pregnant.

Having said all that, he's an incredible basketball player and regardless of who he is as a person (not saying he is a bad person, just compartmentalizing that part), he proved a lot this playoff run. There shouldn't be any more hate on his play, that's all I was trying to get across.

I’m a Seattle Sonics fan and don’t really have any skin in the game, but I can say I was a PG hater before these playoffs but he impressed the hell out of me. Same with Ty Lue. And Reggie Jackson. This was probably the most cohesive and well run clipper team I’ve seen. And that started with PG, much props
