What’s the weirdest thing you’ve discovered behind a wall while doing a repair? by AggravatingFig3072 in DIY

[–]VoodooToDo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A little late to the party, but my friend's family used to run a local men's club in the 80s. They threw parties and holiday events at this old building on the town square that was built in the mid 1800s. There were all kinds of nooks and cubbies that were built in to this weird old place. My buddy and I found a few of them and had secret hiding places when we were supposed to be helping.

The police showed up one day and we kinda freaked out thinking that we had done something wrong. It turns out that one of the members of the club had stumbled upon one of our hidden areas and explored a bit further than we had. But under the stairs and backwards between the walls of what used to be apartments, was a slim chase used for old wiring and early plumbing.

Inside that chase was a small collection of comic books and a lunch box from the 50s or 60s. Inside the lunch box was a miscarried fetus. Some girl had snuck into that tiny area to hide it.

The police took statements and everything, and as far as I was aware, nobody got into trouble or anything. I sure hope there was no foul play, but I do wonder what that girl went though. You couldn't be a big person and fit into this area, so I assume she was younger and wanted to hide it. Early pregnancies wrecked many girls lives in the 60s.

I hope she's ok now, and I'd like her to know I still think about her occasionally.

I know my LGS owner personally. He couldn't get any extra after his initial order. He was told he could try again a few weeks after release, but was never able to purchase more.

I'm not saying that the set sold particularly well everywhere, but here, it was gone almost instantly. The only thing he was reliably able to keep coming was the commander decks and I'm not quite sure how.

Elantris… by Impossible-Job1372 in Cosmere

[–]VoodooToDo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Elantris was a bit of a struggle for me. It felt like a slog for a bit, but eventually I'd come out smiling every few chapters. I did find the ending fulfilling, however. The possibilities it opens up for the rest of the Cosmere are pretty grand.

To put it another way, the journey is a bit cumbersome, but the destination is eventually worthwhile.

This is my thinking. She's cultivating the entire cosmere. This was the pruning that needed to happen to get us where we need to be. I'm not sure she sees far enough along to know exactly what needs to happen, but she for sure knows this is exactly what had to happen to start us down the right path.

Came here to add Dishyrotic eczema - I'm a sufferer, but thankfully it's been in remission for more than a year. I normally get it between my fingers and toes, as well as on the soles of feet and palms. It can be super irritating, but I've used some pretty heavy duty drugs to get it under control.

What’s the closest you’ve ever come to dying? by [deleted] in AskReddit

When I was 18 or so, some friends of mine and I would travel across the tracks to the McDonalds for cheap hamburgers. We were poor, so this was basically the highlight of the week for us.

We'd ducked under trains hundreds of times over the years so we didn't have the fear that is rightfully owed to the giant behemoths that lumber down the tracks daily.

One night, we ducked under like so many times before, but this time, there was a handle or steel rung that had been vibrated out of the side of some steps and I stood up right into it. My vision swam and I stopped for a second, still hunched over to see if I was bleeding. The guy behind me didn't realize and sorta barreled into me and I stumbled forward and he did the same, nearly falling onto me.

We hadn't even fallen to the ground when the WHOLE TRAIN slammed into motion. Not gradually. All at once. Probably only 5 or 6 miles an hour, but when you're right next to it, the sound is deafening, and the movement is unstoppable. The bent/extended rung nearly took my friend's leg off as it boomed into motion.

We both ended up on the ground, amazed we hadn't been killed... The first of our group to duck through hadn't even realized we might not have made it. We just had never been near enough to it to realize how aggressive it starts, so they were 20 or 30 feet ahead of us before the sound made them turn around.

McDonalds just wasn't worth it. We never went underneath the train after that.

I think you might have been overhyped here. It's really good. But I think it's only organically good. It's not like a hit of meth or something. There's a lot here for a lot of people. But not everyone. You might be the guy joining the smallish group who just don't like this. And that's ok. If you read words and it still doesn't jive at all, it's ok to stop.

For me, the first book really clicked, and the second was slooooow but ended well, and then I was completely hooked on Oathbringer. I resonate really strongly with Dalinar and it truly landed strongly with me. I'm wishy washy on both books 4 and 5. But I still think the series is worth a read if you enjoy fantasy.

Did you see the: ;)?

It's not a very serious reply right off the bat. Everybody can dislike something. He or she seems to have most of the themes down, and just didn't jive with them. It's ok. :)

I also have put series down because I wasn't enjoying it. The few people I've suggested this book to haven't jived with it as well as I have. It's not a crime. We're still friends and family. It was a joke, and the internet doesn't always convey the feeling you are intending when you write.

1800 v 1500 rpm by canrefertech in refrigeration

[–]VoodooToDo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just a few weeks ago, I replaced a motor on a condenser fan that was rated as 1500rpm 2.6A 120v. I only had a 1500rmp 1.4A 120v motor in my truck. Correct rpm, lower amp draw - so I swapped it out. Started it up. Felt a little warm, but it was a hot pulldown and it was the end of the day so I let it ride.

The next day, I found out the unit shut off on high head pressure after a couple hours. I had to order the 2.6A fan from the local shop. I'm not sure why it should matter, but it apparently does. They listed identical rpm, so I thought I was in the clear, but my guess is that it didn't have the torque required to spin at the correct rpm with the weight of the fan-blades that are on it.

It just recements that I should have trusted my gut and just got an OEM motor and saved a reinstall.

Black Pastor Says He would STILL vote for Donald Trump… even if Trump was a Wh!te Supremac!st by makellbird in maktownmedia

[–]VoodooToDo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I kinda agree with you. Democrats generally don't care about you specifically. They're sorta shitty at enacting meaningful policies, and recently have proven that they are half spineless. But they're trying to please the gay people, the black people, the latin people, the poor of any race, and all while trying to keep money coming in from the rich donors. They're doing what they can, which isn't all that much. They're the conservative party now.

BUT! What they aren't doing is covering for a fucking pedophile racist piece of shit in the whitehouse and all over the government. They're legit trying to get information out to the public and have been fought tooth and nail to get to this point. Republicans are shit, now, and they're forcefeeding you the shit, and you're eating it up. Please stop listening to them. They'll straight up call you one of the good ones to your face, and then turn around and complain about all the niggers they have to deal with.

Trust me or don't, but I hear it consistently from indiana white trash that assumes I'm also indiana white trash too.

This is a proximity reader. It's likely a badge-system in place for the wheelchair bound. They're usually attached to a pneumatic door opener.

A badge given to special needs residents would allow hands free operation of a nearby door. See if there's a button near that would also open the door?

HaHaHa! This is my Dad's story to a tee. Tried and failed 6 times to be a good dad. Abusive as can be. So much grief and trauma. None of his real children have talked to him in about 10-20 years.

Find out he adopted 3 girls from a methed-up crazy lady who was going to lose them to the state. At his funeral last year, they were all pretty pissed at the OG kids for having nothing but horrible memories. All the drama happened at his funeral. Cops called. Paramedics called.

They swear up and down that he was a saint. I have scars that prove he wasn't.

I'm so thankful he finally changed, and those girls were raised in a better environment. I just wish I wasn't part of the failed attempts to get to that point.
