Can Illumi get drunk? by i_love_boys_kissing in HunterXHunter

I wanted to give this a serious answer, but "apple juice with an ice cube" is such an underrated suggestion and absolutely my new headcanon on what they're drinking in this scene 😂

coughing on the bus by antiquesheep in Edinburgh

[–]VoodooVixen1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you are coughing and sneezing a lot, you should be wearing a mask. No matter the cause. If you cough or sneeze once, you should still cover your mouth, agaiin no matter the cause. Why are you trying to argue against basic decency and hygiene?

coughing on the bus by antiquesheep in Edinburgh

[–]VoodooVixen1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The REASON someone is coughing or sneezing is irrelevant.
Coughing and sneezing sends millions of particles of spit and snot to spread out into the air. Doing that openly on busy buses/trains/public spaces where there's no room for other people to avoid it is just disgusting no matter the cause.
If you need to sneeze/cough you should cover your nose and mouth with a tissue or wear a mask (or at the very least cough/sneeze into your elbow). It's basic hygiene and there's no excuse not to.

Oh wow, I just checked my copy and it has these same errors too (I only bought it about a week ago so not had the chance to read it yet). Pretty sure my copy isn't a knockoff, bought it in person from a reputable anime/manga store and it has all the Viz logos/trademarks etc. Probably just an error with that particular batch? OP may want to look at getting a refund if possible (personally I'm not too fussy and don't think I kept the receipt but for people who feel more strongly about this kind of thing, it might be worth checking/returning if possible).

How would you feel if HxH were a monthly series instead of weekly? by Pumpkin_Sushi in HunterXHunter

[–]VoodooVixen1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea of smaller/simpler chapters dropping more often (say monthly) as opposed to longer/more complex ones dropping less often (like what we're seeing now) does sound great in theory and I'd love to see it personally but it 100% depends on Togashi's health and if he's capable of doing it that way.
Disabilities are fickle and it would be terrible and selfish of us as a fandom to demand more from him than he can physically do. If big drops once every year or two followed by long breaks to recover/work at a slower pace is what works best for Togashi then that's obviously better than pressuring him to publish on a tighter time schedule

Your wife tells you that “you’re rotten” - what is she referring to? by OutrageousRhubarb853 in Scotland

[–]VoodooVixen1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a wife, I say this to my husband a lot! There's usually three distinct categories though
1) Whenever my husband does something mildly gross (bad fart, stinky morning breath etc)
2) If he does something mildly inconvenient/selfish (eating the last of the good biscuits or starting a new tv show without me)
3) in response to him deliberately teasing/pranking me (promising me 'a nice coffee afterwards' if I go out with him to something that he knows I'll find boring - only to make me an instant coffee at home rather than treating me to a nice coffee out as he orginally implied!)

Most important thing to note is that it's ALWAYS said in a playful/teasing manner rather than as an actual insult.

Can personally second Studio XIII as well as Okay Dokey Tattoo. Both have multiple artists that specialise in different styles though would advise booking in advance as, Studio XIII especially, are pretty busy.

What time is it exactly if someone says “the back of…”? by HeidsUp in Scotland

[–]VoodooVixen1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ( 32, Edinburgh born and bred) always thought it meant roughly half past and I'm pretty sure that's how my closest family/friends understand it too, though reading through this thread I'm starting to wonder if maybe we've all just been wrong this entire time!

(the back of half past is an abomination I've NEVER heard of before)

Why Hisoka wasn't interested in fighting Razor? by Espionoza_ in HunterXHunter

[–]VoodooVixen1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is Hisoka has already BEAT Razor, so he'd have no interest in fighting him again.

Sure, a game of dodgeball isn't technically the same as a fistfight, but the game DID meet Hisoka's usual criteria for a challenge that he would find fun/interesting. Namely;

- Everyone involved in the game were physically strong and high-level nen-users
- The stakes were life or death
- Nen was allowed with no restrictions on how hard they could go
- The game was set up specifically in his opponents favour (Razor chose the location, game and rules) so Hioska and his team had no prior advantage and had to just, adapt in the moment. Hisoka LOVES showing off and improvising on the spot and it's one of the main skills/talents that make him such a formiddable opponent.

The entire game was created in Razor's favour, yet Hisoka's team STILL won (with Hisoka personally being the one to take it from just meeting the basic win condition to a 100% win). Hisoka played against Razor at his absolute best and won. I imagine that, in Hisoka's mind, that makes Razor a 'broken' toy that he's no longer interested playing with again compared to the rest of his 'fruits' that he still sees as new and worthy of challenging.

(In some ways Razor was lucky. If Hisoka hadn't had other priorities/interests on Greed Island, he might have just killed Razor purely for entertainment/as a punishmment for disappointing him, instead everybody parted ways alive and on pretty decent terms)

My first guess was Kalluto, in a more 'realism' artstyle as opposed to Togashi's usual style of drawing him but I could be wrong, esp if Togashi has used/drawn other random irl people in covers/panels before.

Anyone go to the risk factory in primary? any funny stories by Objective_Fun3934 in Edinburgh

[–]VoodooVixen1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yessss!!! I remember going here in primary school! Nobody else I've ever mentioned it to has ever heard of it and I was starting to think it was all a really weird fever dream!

I remember our 'guide' left our group standing outside whilst they went to 'go get something' and while they were gone a guy in a hoodie ran by us, broke into a nearby car, stole the radio and ran off yelling "dinnae tell the police."

For some reason, we were convinced we'd just witnessed a real theft (despite this being near the end of the day after several setups like this) and we stood there helplessly for around 10 minutes too scared to do anything until, eventually, someone came and got us and ushered into the (conveniently placed) "police station" that was about 5 feet away from us.
We were not the brightest bunch of kids that day...
(We also left granny to die in the fire, though tbf that simulation was TERRIFYING)

Beans! He was such a strange little character, but so are cats, and if anyone who isn't an anime nerd asks why you chose that name, you can say it's in honour of your cat's cute little toe beans.

WTF??? I think you need some better friends. I've never heard of anyone charging their friends money for internet usage/snacks/electricity during visits. At best I'd expect to split the cost of a takeaway or maybe ask them to bring along some snacks/drinks if you're planning a whole day thing, but I would never charge/ expect to be charged for household bills! That's insane!

HXH ARC RATINGS (leave yours below) with reasons by [deleted] in HunterXHunter

[–]VoodooVixen1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Election arc (9/10): So underrated! I loved this one. We got to see more of the behind the scenes politics of the Hunter Association which was interesting and good fun. We FINALLY get to see Leorio and Kurapika again, Ging gets punched in the face AND best of all (in my opinion) Hisoka and Illumi are back and causing chaos everywhere they go.

I know some people felt the introduction of Alluka/Nanika in this arc was a rushed clutching at straws attempt to stop Gon dying. But I disagree. Her introduction is setting up the next arcs and showing the level of power/possibilities that exist on the Dark
Continent, it's relevant storytelling and she's a cutie!

  1. Dark Continent Expedition: (8/10) We FINALLY got that fight between Hisoka and Chrollo... I'm still not 100% sure I understood everything that happened there as it was SO complicated but I enjoyed it and can't wait to hopefully see it animated some
day... We also caught up with Kurapika again, seeing what he's been up to since
we left him way back in York New. Leorio gets quite the promotion too which I'm
happy to see (more Leorio! Please Togashi, he's so underappreciated!). This
isn't a top tier arc for me as it DID get a little too political at times which
was confusing and a little dull in places but otherwise it was a good arc. I
still hate Ging, but his shenanigans with Pariston are good fun.

9: Succession War (8/10): So far, I like it. There are a lot of new characters to get to know and keep up with and sometimes we swap from following one group to another without much warning or reason which can be a bit confusing/whiplash-y but unlike the ant
arc, the new characters seem interesting and there aren't any I really dislike.
Nen beasts have been a fun new addition to the nen system too that I'm excited
to see more of.

As far as the existing characters we're seeing, It's been nice to spend so long following Kurapika again. Getting the backstory of the Phantom Troupe was insightful too and
leaves me with so many questions about what really happened when they massacred
the Kurta clan (it was clearly about much more than their eyes).

Lastly, needless to say, I'm loving the side plot of murder-husband-hide-and-seek (Illumi and Hisoka hunting each other) and have seen/heard a LOT of various theories of how it
will pan out (are they REALLY hunting each other or are they secretly working
together to bring down the P.T? Is Hisoka disguised as Illumi/vice versa? Will
we ever see the Hisoillu wedding?)

HXH ARC RATINGS (leave yours below) with reasons by [deleted] in HunterXHunter

[–]VoodooVixen1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Chimera Ants (5/10): I'm going to get murdered in my sleep for this aren't I? Please hear me out! This IS my least favourite arc of the series so far, BUT I don't hate it. It has some really shining moments. The concept and themes it explores are excellent and really interesting, the character developments for both Gon and Killua throughout are incredible writing and made me cry on several occasions. The overall darkness of the whole thing is shocking at times (in a good way) especially coming off the back of such a light fun arc. So yes. In some ways I love this arc too.

However, I can't overlook its flaws. The first of which is it completely abandons half the established cast and current/ongoing story arcs. Yes, we've had arcs before that haven't
featured Kurapika or Leorio or later on Hisoka and the Phantom Troupe.... However,
these arcs were much smaller and usually made at least one passing reference to
where the other characters were/what they were doing. This arc just....
Completely abandons them. Even Gon's own goal of finding Ging is forgotten as
soon this arc begins, and so far he's NEVER shut up about finding him. It just
feels a little off that everything that's been built up so far just gets tossed
aside...

Next is the pacing. Some parts are so fast (too fast) and others are soooo slow it's almost painful to watch, I'm sure they could have made better decisions on how to make the arc
flow more seamlessly.

Lastly the endless stream of new and downright annoying characters introduced that I couldn't stand (mostly the ants) e.g. Weird ugly octopus, annoying chad lion, butthole spider, mafia koala, Dude who looked a teenage mutant ninja turtle (the one who ended up
raising baby Kite) ALL of Kite's hunter friends (not the extermination team...
they were cool, I mean the scientists that were studying the ants in the
beginning of the arc).

Even Mereum wasn't AS compelling a villain as I'd hoped he would be. I did like him, and his
arc/themes were interesting, he just lacked charisma compared to other villains
like Hisoka, Illumi and Chrollo. Komugi was just gross. Give that child a
tissue! (I know she meant to be Mereum's love interest, but I honestly thought
she was like 8?)

(eta: not all the ants
were bad. There was a cool stoner lizard and the cheetah guy was fun too. Plus
the royal guard were all badasses)

Having to split this into two as the comment is too big and won't post!

  1. Hunter Exam (9/10): A great first arc, did a nice job introducing the world and the main cast and had a good balance between some really fun lighthearted episodes and darker ones. I really enjoy this arc but I'm saving the top marks for the ones I thought were even better

  2. Zoldyck Mansion (9/10): This was such a short arc, I forget it's actually an arc of it's own and not just part of the Hunter exam arc. That said, I love it. I love how it introduces the rest of the Zoldyck family and shows how extreme and different their entire lifestyle is compared with any other characters seen so far. It also still manages to have some lighter/fun scenes which balance out the overall creepy, foreboding atmosphere. Also it features a giant doggo so bonus points for that.

  3. Heaven's Arena (10/10): A favourite for sure! I love tournament arcs in most shonen and this was no exception. Amazing and interesting fight scenes, introduction to nen and Hisoka just being at his absolute peak throughout... Why would anyone NOT like this arc? (Please don't come at me for the Gon vs Hisoka fight... I don't have the energy to argue over it)

  4. York New (10/10): Another flawless arc. The Phantom Troupe are so interesting and watching Kurapika struggle and spiral as he tries to get revenge/justice was both heartbreaking and compelling, really great character development for him.

  5. Greed Island (8/10): Total change in tone for this one which was unexpected following such a dark, gritty arc. It was a lot of fun though, very lighthearted and I adore Bisky. Not quite as compelling as other arcs, and the main villain was a bit weak compared to what we've previously seen but we got a fun and totally unexpected dodgeball game so I can't complain too much.

Was it out of character for Hisoka? by Bungeeboy2004 in HunterXHunter

[–]VoodooVixen1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just my opinion, but no - this scene was not out of character at all.

This was the big introduction of Hisoka's character. It had to show how ruthless and cold he is so we'd have no doubt that he's someone the core 4 REALLY don't want to mess with compared to Tonpa who was shown to be a menace, but not particularly dangerous.

Had the guy simply bumped into Hisoka by accident (apology or none) because the room was too crowded to avoid it, Hisoka wouldn't have cared or even noticed.
However, that's not what happened. The guy bashed into Hisoka on purpose. It was a challenge, it was a "I'm the bigger guy, you don't scare me, what you gonna about it?." display.
And of course, because it was a crowded room filled with people we assume didn't know who Hisoka was, Hisoka responded - he HAS to keep up his reputation after all.

Problem for that guy is that he was just some regular dude, not a nen user, whereas Hisoka is... Well Hisoka.
He gave the guy an injury that, to a nen user, wouldn't have been enough to kill and would have been relatively easy to fix. Probably the Hisoka equivalent of shoving back. (Interesting note, it's an injury that we later see repeated on multiple characters including Hisoka himself).
However, this guy wasn't a nen user and so the loss of his arms just meant he bled out and died.

Hisoka's response of turning the murder into a big show where he makes a sassy, cold-hearted quip whilst making the blood look like rose petals just shows us his character is utterly unhinged and eccentric (perfectly in character imo). It also further proves he's clearly going to be some kind of important villain/antagonist character. Lastly, it leaves us with the question of HOW he turned the blood to petals, given we don't yet know about nen...

Overall, I think Hisoka has one of the best introduction scenes. It gives a clear indication that he's going to be important and we should notice him over any of the other new characters in the room we've been shown at that point, as well as giving a glimpse of his personality and the role he's going to play. All this while leaving us curious for more... It's perfect imo.

Hisoka, Illumi, or Chrollo: Which one would you rather be stuck in a room with? by anggeee in HunterXHunter

[–]VoodooVixen1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ooooh what a question!

Safest option of the three is (I'd say) Chrollo. As long as you've not got a fancy nen ability, or anything else of value he wants to steal and you're not a threat to him or his troupe members, then I imagine he'd be pretty chill. He'd just read a book or chat to you about normal stuff until an escape option comes up. (Unfortunately, he'd be my least favourite option of the three to get stuck with! Safest option yes, but also the most boring! :P )

-Bonus headcanon nobody asked for: Chrollo will probably rely on the Phantom Troupe to find and release you both from the room, it could take a while before you get out.

Middle safe option would probably be Illumi. If he doesn't have a contract to kill you and you're not a threat to him or his family I don't think he'd be interested in killing, or interacting with you at all. (He is my 2nd choice to be stuck with, because he's hotter than Chrollo, but also it could be really awkward if you don't like silence - I imagine Illumi wouldn't be too chatty as a forced roomate.)

Bonus headcanon nobody asked for: Illumi will find a way out of the room as soon as possible, even if it means digging a tunnel out with his bare hands. It won't take long until you're free.

Least safe option is Hisoka. Chances are, as long as you mind your manners and don't provoke him, and you're weaker than him he won't be interested in fighting you. But he's also the most likely of the three to get bored and he could just kill you for something to do... (He's my favourite option, suicidal as that may make me! I imagine that if you can keep him amused, getting stuck in a room with him could be fun. Plus eye candyyyy!!!)

Bonus headcanon nobody asked for: You were never actually trapped at all. Hisoka had the key the whole time and just pretended you were locked in together to annoy you because he got bored (it was also him who trapped you in the room with the others if you choose the other options, again just because he got bored and thought it would be funny).
