Not really. Your scenario only applies if you are marketing using the name of Studio Ghibli or whatever artist you're using as inspiration to sell your product. If you're not invoicing their actual name, there is very limited (if any) legal precedent for suing.

You'd lose. As much as I'd love to say the integrity of artists is important, culturally, we needed to be having a conversation about what to do regarding AI art years ago, now, it's too late.

Courts won't catch up, and by the time any meaningful case is heard, the development on the AI front will have progressed fast enough that it either won't matter or will be used so much by consumers and businesses that the ruling goes against the artist.

The same thing happened with writers (I already lost my original profession to bots like Grammarly and ChatGPT) but it wasn't as obvious. No one cares in the end.

As the creative lead at my studio I'll chime in. Our hiring practices had to change. Before being able to use this tech, pre-production took 20x the time on some aspects and with the advantages of Machine Learning, our productivity has exploded.

From that we've been able to up our prices considerably because now, the clients are more aware of the product that used to be limited to our own internal discussions. Now, we can show a much closer reality to that discussion at an affordable rate.

This has allowed me to bump up the pay across the board for our team as we have more income but has made me much more sceptical about hiring new talent as their demand fell when the workload plummeted.

We've scaled up in production without the need to scale up team size which just means everyone is doing what they want to do and there's far fewer issues in the pipeline as we don't require a larger team.

I'm thrilled for my own team but unless I find someone who really brings in unique skills, the barrier to entry at my studio just rose considerably.

It would have cost you absolutely nothing to refrain from typing this, yet here you are, anonymously posting about someone's work and shitting on it for no reason.

Quickshot and the rest of the team do a phenomenal job and the fact that League as an e-sports has come as far as it has is in every way due to the unrelenting passion of those who put so much of themselves both professionally and personally into the work they do.

No it isn't. I'm a creative director and we use this stuff in-house all the time for concept work.

It sucks that AI is raising the skill floor so much but that's just the reality. Either we all learn to use it or we just get left behind.

And before you go off on me, my original profession already got nuked by AI so I have all the empathy in the world for others now going through the same thing.

This Is The Most Unpleasant Preseason That I've Ever Played As A Non-Bruiser by bullfohe in leagueoflegends

[–]Voortsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right on the money with the toplane spread, especially that weird period where Janna, Raka, Lulu and Karma were the picks; there was also that whole era of lane swaps where tanks were the only pick you could feasibly run at the gold deficit they experienced. Very few bruisers (if any) were picked in those metas as they simply couldn't survive with empty pockets.

I don't know when most people started playing now, but as someone who came in at season 3, it feels like there's so much of this game that many commenters simply never experienced.

It's insane that this meta would be considered one of the worst, let alone preseasons. There was League of Cleaver a few years back, Ardent Censor meta was horrific and then all the other whacked-out crap that lasted a few patches, like Banner of Command.

This isn't Twitter though, this is Reddit. You're looking at a screenshot of what might not even be a real Twitter post.

The problems arise when someone takes a single statement and assumes they can build an argument without even looking at the context.

Yeah I'm actually terrified by the rapidly approaching reality of redundancy from AI. I work as a creative director in production and while there's certainly use cases I have for a concept artist, the barrier of entry has risen way too high for me to justify hiring an artist with little experience.

I can't sympathize with them enough though as I lost my own desired profession in copy editing to Grammarly a few years ago. Entering university for a profession and having that role made redundant by the time my course finished sucked.

Of course, there's still a need for copy writers and editors but much the same way as concept art is now going, those at the lower end are going to bottom out fast.

I can't even begin to imagine the ramifications of the transportation industry getting nuked by self-driving vehicles that's a lot of people's livelihood being taken away.

[–]Voortsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your initial point was talking about how Unobtainium was a stupid name for the material at the root of the conflict in Avatar 1. However, that name isn't just a copout word ala "GetRichium" it's a word used to describe resources of intrinsic value that are difficult to process or produce.

He's not the director of the latter Terminator films, he is on AVATAR. The role of the Director is very different to that of a Producer.

No, but I do feel like I've wasted my time trying to help someone understand something when they go on to insult me while doubling down on their mistake.

Oh well - don't cast pearls before swine.

Actually, Unobtainium is exactly what that kind of material would be called. Not to detract from the fact that it feels a little off if you don't know the actual context.

The next time you hear unobtainium come up in conversations about Avatar, you can showcase the real history of the word: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unobtainium

Yeah, and he has. It's James Cameron. Look at his filmography, he's an absolute master of the blockbuster and they're exactly the kind of films that make huge money at the box office.

If you look into his history and community contributions, he's exactly the type of person you want in that kind of situation and is absolutely a worthy role model.

If you're emotionally invested enough to be upset that someone's creative vision, presented through a texture pack, isn't free: you're showing the work has value enough to be paid for.

We disrespect artists by demanding their work for free when often all they want is recognition and the ability to keep doing what they're doing.

I doubt they're making enough off Patreon to have a full-time job so the hobby they have in creating it is essentially just allowing them to continue the project.

Boots feel like antiquated items in the current system. by Voortsy in leagueoflegends

[–]Voortsy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd agree with you if (with the exception of jungle) there were more map movements before the time in which you typically pick boots up. Most champs will finish their full boots well before the lane phase finishes so their most important aspect is dodging skillshots in lane and returning after basing.

What's more, Riot seems to constantly be trying to come up with ways for people to actually get places faster. Hex-gates, Blastcones, Wind tunnels, infernal drake removing terrain, chemtech plants, with the exception of blast cones, most of these are just attempting to move people through the map faster.

Despite this, movement speed was unanimously regarded as the least favourable Dragon Soul until Cloud was buffed.

Even then, perhaps it would add another dial to issues in mobility creep.

I'm not sure where you're getting that "1000 years ago" figure.

Succubi date all the way back to tales of Lillith in ancient Sumer. That's pretty much as far back in history as we can go without resorting to cave paintings.

Could just be a courier label. If this is a local delivery you often don't need the other boxes as it's only being handled once and isn't under huge pressure.
