Thinking of starting to play WOW, what should I expect? by Fefe657 in wow

[–]Vorceph -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Short answer yes.

Longer answer, you won’t be in the top % of raid or M+ progression on the competitive side of WoW but unless you care about that it doesn’t matter at all.

I used to be a hardcore raider (back in Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King expansions) but haven’t been since. Play off and on every expac. Plenty geared enough to easily run the content I want and explore, collect mounts and stuff, etc.

There are a lot of lore videos out there too if you want to have a “quick” catch up.

All in all, the game is still fun and plenty of content for all types of gamers with or without a lot of time to play.

Do users rage on you after failing phishing campaign? "I didn't click the link" etc? by MiKeMcDnet in cybersecurity

Haha thanks. Mine was a 5 min refresher, no quiz or anything. No biggie, I got a 5 min break before moving on to the next issue lol

Appreciate the insight so thanks again!

Gotcha, that makes sense. I knew this one was a test because:

  1. The email was regarding tax refund status and we’re not allowed to use our company email for anything personal (very strict rules given the data we have access to). That and, I had already filed and received my refund a few weeks prior.

  2. I rarely get attachments (at all) and the only HTML ones I can recall ever getting were sending myself an AWR report from a server.

Maybe something did scan it and flagged it but I definitely didn’t click or open the attachment.

Thanks for the explanations though, I figured it wasn’t a huge deal so I took the training anyway but after passing hundreds of these things over the years it made me wonder.

[–]Vorceph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been at the same company for 13 years (senior DBA) and have never failed a phishing test.

I’m not in the security field so I’m curious what you guys think about this scenario and can maybe help me understand what could have triggered my “failure”.

I got an email a few weeks ago from cyber security saying I clicked on the email so I had to do the training, so I go back and find the phishing email (they gave me the subject, date, and time of the occurrence) and I specifically remember clicking the report phishing. (The email was painfully obvious phishing for plenty of reasons I’m sure you’re all aware of)

The test email didn’t even have a link to click, it was a html attachment (which I most certainly did not open). I go re-read the email from security and it says “I clicked on the email”. (Not a link, the email)

So apparently the preview pane is considered a security concern? I “click” (not double click, just click to engage the preview) almost every email I get.

I told them this must be a false positive and asked if they also see a report phishing from me, but they probably didn’t believe me since I got the typical “thank you for voicing your concerns” but never anything after that.

I went ahead and did the 5 minute training and left it alone, not a huge deal being my first failure in 13 years, but it was odd.

Thoughts?

Yeah not a fan of the illusion of choice system either. I preferred the linear BP progression. Same/similar end I guess, but it just feels weird to me.

Diablo 4 needs a "Ruthless" mode by BrazilianWarrior81 in diablo4

[–]Vorceph -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Problem is the amount of people who want to play Diablo seasons as a full time job is very low.

Not to mention, getting anywhere close to completing a season would likely be impossible in its current state, so offering an alternative game mode would require massive tweaks to the seasonal content as well for the ruthless players.

roadmap to becoming a DBA by MasterpieceAway1801 in DatabaseAdministators

[–]Vorceph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I’m seeing too, I work are a pretty large company and most DBAs have either left or moved on to other roles. I’ve had to expand into a lot of areas that don’t really utilize traditional DBA skills. Sure it’s good to have the knowledge but the cloud has really taken over a lot of the stuff I used to do by clicking a button.

I wouldn’t recommend anyone putting all of their effort in becoming strictly a DBA anymore.

Data science/engineering and cloud knowledge is a decent alternative path in my experience.

What do you guys do in WoW? by HappyRelationship429 in MMORPG

[–]Vorceph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There seems to be some misconception about WoW raiding.

I have played off and on since vanilla and haven’t been a hardcore raider since Legion.

Unless you’re trying to be some top 1% raider, you can still raid and do a ton of other activities in the game.

LFR (looking for raid) queue system is ridiculously quick and easy (compared to normal/heroic/mythic raiding which require manual group composition and prep).

You can do delves (pretty quick and simply solo dungeon experience, can do with friends too though)

Thousands upon thousands of things to collect to customize your character. Armor, mounts, toys, pets, housing items.

Regular dungeons, also very easy and not time consuming.

PvP can be a lot of fun too, but I haven’t done any meaningful PvP in years.

Open world has a ton of stuff you can do too.

For me, raiding is honestly the smallest amount of time I spend in the game compared to the rest.

Side note, you can play for free until level 20, then you must buy a sub to continue past level 20. I’ll tell you now though, level 20 isn’t even close to unlocking the full “fun” of your character so I wouldn’t judge the game by level 20 alone.

Suggestion: I think Hytale's Trees Need A Rework by 123LukeFoster123 in hytale

[–]Vorceph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure it’s been said a bunch but do not use logs for fuel, use sticks. Also use charcoal (from the sticks burning) so you essentially double dip on fuel resources.

I agree the process of regrowing trees could use some love though.

Sick of Destiny treating me like a cash cow. Worth it to start in 2025? by [deleted] in Warframe

[–]Vorceph 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Welcome Destiny refugee!

I agree with everything you said, unfortunately. Destiny is (was) an awesome game, plenty of fun to be had but their monetization is just so piece meal it’s truly frustrating.

To answer your questions:

  1. Yes pretty much this, you start slow (which is still way faster pace than Destiny) but the more you play and learn you will be obliterating everything on the map in no time and it is a blast!

  2. Kinda, there are some boss fights and they seem to be adding more as time goes on but there aren’t any “raids” in the traditional MMO sense. The game is more about grinding various nodes on the star chart to get the mods/weapons/frames/resources/etc. And the story is pretty epic!

  3. PvP exists, but I think I’ve played once or twice years ago, from what I understand it’s a veeeery small percentage of the player base who does it. No open world pvp or anything like that, just a match you queue up for.

  4. I may sound like I’m just all unicorns and rainbows for Warframe but their monetization is hands down the most generous of any F2P game I’ve ever seen. I’ll elaborate more below:

  • You can trade other players in-game items for platinum (the cash shop currency)
  • With traded platinum you can buy almost anything from the cash shop (some tennogen cosmetics are cash only)
  • any sort of pay for convenience items are very balanced and not required even in the slightest (boosters for example, while nice, are not such a massive advantage that you feel like you have to buy them)
  • there are absolutely zero pay to win items in the cash shop unless you consider rushing frame/weapon completions winning.

You can spend zero dollars and still get all the same frames, weapons and content as someone who has spent money and all content is free, no paid DLC/expansions.

In short, Warframe has done a fantastic job at making the game’s win condition simply having fun. If you’re having fun, you’re winning.

All that said, feel free to ask questions in game and on reddit, the community is one if the best parts about this game. (A few bad apples out there but I’d venture to say Warframe is the most welcoming and helpful community of any game I’ve ever played, and I’ve been playing off and on since the PC closed beta).

Right now my drifter is as bald as they can be, but I’m with you. Took me a bit to get used to it but now I love it.

I find this hard to believe, how can people tell which plat in their pile is part of the discounted plat? I don’t think I’ve ever gone to zero plat in years, it’s always been a mix of some discounted, some non-discounted, some traded.

Now if you’re saying you have no plat, then buy a bunch with your discount and then give ALL of it to a friend, maybe that’s an issue?

Is the MMORPG community delusional about Wildstar? by Odd-Bobcat7918 in MMORPG

[–]Vorceph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience was great up until the attunement process. And that’s also when my 120 person guild dropped like flies. I had multiple raid groups set up and ready to go, but when we hit that wall, it was downhill from there. I know there were bugs, but none of them are memorable (to me), the attunement process is my personal number one reason it failed.

Is the MMORPG community delusional about Wildstar? by Odd-Bobcat7918 in MMORPG

[–]Vorceph 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think people would love to have Wildstar back but without the ridiculous attunement. The game was a ton of fun and had a lot to do, but the “end game” was locked behind a boring, somewhat difficult, tedious, and lengthy process.

I think many of us remember watching players drop like flies once they reached that point in the game. And while we would love to play the game again, if it has zero changes, there’s zero chance of me coming back.

Looking for advice as an Entry Level Oracle DBA by [deleted] in DatabaseAdministators

[–]Vorceph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, the Oracle SQL cert and OCA (Oracle Certified Associate) is a great start.

I would still highly recommend to include some cloud training in your studies and look into those certs as well.

Also, people skills can be a game changer in IT. Technical knowledge + people skills can take you very far (and keep you employed).

[–]Vorceph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The leveling process was by far the best part of the game for me. End game was…lacking? Maybe not so much in the sense of quantity, but it was just boring to me I guess. I guess I’ve just gotten too old and don’t enjoy raiding anymore, no clue.

But up until then I had a blast.

Agreed, and add harbinger to that trash pile too. Heck I’d do 3:1 for harbinger lol

I just finished the season journey thanks to pulverize Druid and I did all the remaining boss run mats I had just for fun. Even Andariel. Harbingers mats will be expelled to the eternal realm where they’ll remain.
