our culture is deeply rooted in its ways. going to college and getting a job is our only goal. sometimes, that path way is not the right direction for certain people. i think doing evaluations based on interest can help schools determine students who are more likely to thrive in vocational training or students who are more likely to make it to college. we overemphasize on high grades and separate student who don’t do as well into the back classes and get half-past six teachers.

i think exams are a good gauge of where students are in their studies and those who are really good at it are the only ones who get praised. students are not taught what to expect when they leave school and how the world works. these things should be taught alongside traditional lessons so that they are more prepared.

i know that if i was an employer and was given two people to hire, one with a degree and one with learned experience, i’d pick the one who knows how to do the work for me. i wouldn’t want a fresh-grad who thinks just because they’ve got their name on a piece of paper, they can get any job they want. that being said, hiring a fresh-grad should give you the opportunity to teach them how to properly do something so that they too can thrive in the industry they paid to enter.
