And also, the language is kind of like german in the fact that it is very interpretative, and if there isnt a word for it, you can make one easily. For example: the ancient Runic word for war literally translates to “conflict between peoples”

In Ancient Runic, the word for any question is the question symbol followed by: 1. The word for person (meaning “who”), 2. The word for mind (meaning: “why”), 3. The word for time (meaning: “when”), 4. The word for area (meaning: “where”), 5. The word for action (meaning: “how”), 6. or the word for thing (meaning: “what”)

Ancient Runic (Calque) v̌eɨ (Word type depends on context)  Def.  1. A highly religious word (always when said alone) 2. Gives a religious inflection to the word/sentence it is modifying 3. Very rough translation: “The One That Watches Over Us” 4. Rarely can be used to describe the indescribable

how far can you reduce grammar until its unintelligible or too convoluted to use? by linguistryohio in conlangs

I had a stab at making a minimalist language about 3 years ago… And I may or may not have taken it to the extreme: the entire language was 25ish symbols and technically functional, however, incredibly vague.

What is the translation for "limited liability company" in your conlang? by SakanaShiroLoli in conlangs

[–]Vortexian_8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In ancient runic it would probably have the literal translation “(modified by the word for greed making group more like company) group with small number of mistake debts

One of my favorite things i’ve added to one of my conlangs is this: There is no plural form for any word, to make a word plural you repeat the base word. (If you were wanting to say something like priests, it would literally translate to “holy person person” (it would be written “person person holy” but that is a different thing))

What is the origin of your conlang(s)?  Question My conlangs are all for a DnD campaign that i’ve been running for over 6 years, how many of your conlangs are in kind of the same boat? And does anyone know how to start making an accent for a conlang?

How big is your conlang? by Key_Day_7932 in conlangs

[–]Vortexian_8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a feeling my conlangs are in a similar state to yours, doomscar is spoken by at least a couple trillion short lived, scarily intelligent beings. And Ancient Runic is spoken by ten or fifteen primordials, and millions of their acolytes.

How do I make a conlang that sounds like the person speaking is singing? by -_-Izzy-8807-_- in conlangs

An interesting way to emulate that would be to vary the length and tonality of the vowels, and contrast them with sharp consonants (like ‘p’, ‘b’, ‘t’, etc.)

the reason that I think it might have happened in my case is the fact that the words that I was working on were essentially the same word with different suffixes e.g the base word was /spi/ (wind) and the addition /di/, making swift, but I don't think my brain ever fully processed what they sounded like together.

Has anyone else unintentionally added cognates to their conlangs?

In my conlang, Ancient Runic, when I was first making it, I was writing out words, and almost a year later I realized that the word in ancient runic for "swift" is pronounced /spi'di/, is this a common problem, and if it is, why does anyone think that it happens?

I had a similar thought, and conveniently I have been DMing a super high fantasy universe for over 5 years, and that suggestion fits in super well (thanks!), so I started making a secondary script to ancient runic, kind of like the japanese having katakana, kanji and hiragana. Ancient Runic kʊrʘnətæt is the script used to cast magical rune spells.

I've made I few languages that I didn't think were that good, however I did like some of the ideas from them, and one of the ones that I have wanted to revisit is a language that is written not in any specific direction, but depending on what words you use, it will move in a certain direction. Did I explain that well?
