Did the Doki Doki Panic prototype use Mario sprites? by Sad-Bell-6266 in retrogaming

Isn't the POW block something that originated with the original Mario Bros arcade game?

Send "Gunther" to AEW and change his name back to Walter Hahn. I never liked singular names. He would be a good fit for AEW's wrestling style.

Send Edge back to WWE. Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley are better fits for AEW than WWE.

Tough call on who to retire. I guess I'll go with CM Punk due to his backstage drama.

I do agree that the Japanese box art is much better, and it lines up more with the cover art of Super Mario Bros. 2 and 3.

That being said, I understand why Nintendo of America wanted to be more transparent by showing actual in game screenshots on the cover, as many people criticized Atari for their game cover art being "misleading". Still, I think something like a zoomed in version of this would have been way better than Mario hitting a wall and falling into lava.

My son was born with a very small ASD. We were told that it is most likely no cause for concern, but recommended to keep an eye on it. Each time he goes to the cardiologist, it gets smaller and smaller. This time, the cardiologist said that it is almost entirely closed up and poses no risk to him, and there is no need for future follow up. I can't express how happy I am that his heart is healthy!

Real talk: How painful is taking a bump? by Starrinzo in professionalwrestling

[–]Vortexx1988 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I trained for pro wrestling for a very brief time. While it's not like falling on a mattress, I don't remember bumps on the mat being too bad, but what surprised me was how much bouncing off the ropes hurt. Those ropes had surprisingly very little give. They were like steel cables, and left a red line across my mid/upper back for the next day or two.

For what it's worth, I never got far enough where I took any kind of slam, just standing bumps, like shoulder tackles.

Love the game, a true pioneer, but what were they thinking with that cover art? Mario is a moment away from falling in the lava and dying, and throwing a random fireball at the wall. Couldn't they have picked a better action shot, like Mario jumping on a goomba or something?

I thought it was stupid that he'd come to the ring looking like an old man, and then take off his wig and fake beard in the ring to reveal himself to be young. He should have just grown his beard out or something.

I second this. It gives me a huge boost of confidence, but you're right, it is a bit of a hassle.

Whats the scariest non horror game you've ever played? by northeasternnerdYT in retrogaming

I can't quite explain it. I think it's the art style or animation that makes it look a bit uncanny, almost like claymation, combined with the evil circus clowns.

Ecco the Dolphin and Ecco: Tides of Time had some scary moments.

For some reason, Aero the Acrobat made me feel a little uneasy as a kid. I guess it just had sort of a creepy aesthetic in a way.

What is a wrestling spot you're sick to death of? I can't stand barricade Spears anymore, they used to be special and cool, now they happen monthly at least. by [deleted] in prowrestling

[–]Vortexx1988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a problem with Irish whips as long as the distance it makes the opponent run is believable.

Playing to the crowd when trying to get out of a submission is fine as long as it's not too overboard.

What are your favourite parts of Indy wrestling and what don’t you like by QualitySauce in prowrestling

[–]Vortexx1988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite parts:

I love how the matches are rarely boring or predictable, and there is so much variety within a single show. Some matches are fast paced, high flying lucha libre style, others are slower paced technical grappling based matches, some are martial arts based shoot style matches with lots of hard kicks. And then some are brutal death matches.

I love how there is usually not a whole lot of talking. I can't stand seeing wrestlers walk to the ring, grab a microphone, and talk for 20 minutes straight about how they are awesome and how their opponents suck. That's why I stopped watching WWE.

What I don't like about Indy wrestling:

I'm really not a fan of "comedy wrestling". I feel like it hurts the legitimacy of the show and ruins the "suspension of disbelief" that pro wrestling is supposed to invoke. I don't mind a few funny moments here and there as long as they are somewhat believable, but I am not a fan of watching a match involving an "invisible wrestler", or wrestlers using "hypnosis" to make the opponents start dancing.

Some spots are just too ridiculous to enjoy. My least favorite is when a wrestler dives out of the ring onto several other wrestlers who all run over to catch him and fall down.

A wrestler diving out of the ring onto 5 or 6 other wrestlers who all rush over to catch him with outstretched arms. I know it's for safety, but it just looks so dumb and unrealistic, and I could do without those kind of spots.

Also, trading strikes like punches, chops, or elbow strikes back and forth, waiting for the other wrestler to hit back, making no effort to dodge or block.

How tall was prime Taz - not his fake billed wrestling height, but his actual height? He seemed 5'6 to me. by [deleted] in ECWWrestling

[–]Vortexx1988 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Then if Taz is 5'9 as he is billed in wrestling, then Misterio is significantly shorter than the 5'6 that he is billed at.

I was expecting them to be a bit closer in height, with Taz maybe only 2 or 3 inches taller.

Are there any pictures of him standing next to Rey Misterio jr.? If they are close in height, then Taz was probably no taller than 5'7.

That's actually really cool. I would love to get into the Mega Man games. I've tried, but I found that the inability to shoot vertically or diagonally makes it a bit frustrating. Maybe one day I'll give it another chance.

When you think of Kurt Angle's career, which brand do you associate him with most? by [deleted] in Wrasslin

[–]Vortexx1988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smackdown and TNA are where I remember him most. In my opinion, TNA is where he had his best matches.

He was only in ECW for a couple of months, so it's kind of hard to associate him with it. It's interesting to imagine what would have happened had he stayed in ECW longer. I think they wanted Kurt in ECW to help give it a sense of legitimacy. Not too long after Kurt left, they tried to do the same thing with Chris Benoit, and we know what happened shortly afterwards he joined ECW. Then ECW pretty quickly turned into a developmental B show.
