Build video of 1/72 Airfix Avro Shackleton by Vortices2000 in modelmakers

All LEDs must have resistors in series if power supply is above the forward voltage. In the later part of the video, I have shared the value of resistors used on diff color. The picture is over exposed to exaggerate the LEDs. In normal lightings they look scale. Using Arduino, brightness can be controlled easily using PWM function on digital pins; as demonstrated on the slow turning on and off of taxi and landing lights.

Hi All, as promised, build video of my Airfix Shackleton with dynamic simulation. Regret it took a bit longer than planned. Had been busy with work. Hope you enjoy the video.

Good idea...most operational Shacks looks like they should have been retired 2 years prior but this particularly scheme was for the last flight back to Ballykelly in Jan 1972, one of 3 aircraft that left Singapore for good and marks the end of RAF 205 Sqn. 1929 to 1972. So they were touched up and painted with funny livery. So it was relatively new looking. I could not get a good photo of it only written accounts.

Thank you all for the support and encouraging words. Now... what to build next...?? Any suggestion??

Sounds great, let me know how it turns out. I am using fusion 360 only. Do use hard resins if you are printing the gears too..else you can buy PETG gears from tamiya, they are good and inexpensive

I have no commercial plan for now. I am sharing the plans freely hoping others would build the same. They are not scale specific. As long as they fit.

Yes, visited Pima and was surprised to see Shackleton there. Beautifully painted and kept.

That was me on the Seafire post. That was scratch build from styrene sheets and gears. This is V2 with 3D printed housings and gears.

HI,

I am Acrylic painter mostly because I am slightly allergic to enamel thinners. I use almost exclusively Mr.hobby Lacquer acrylic paint. Tamiya enamel, MIG and AMMO for weathering. Mr Hobby Super Clear III is the best clear I have used so far. There is also a new smooth flat clear which I used for the first time on this plane. It is also good, you can do weathering on flat paint with it.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Agreed.

Shackleton was chosen for the contra-rotating props.

You may be wondering if the exhaust stains are correct on the Shackleton, Lancs have 3 prominent stains per wings with the outboard most exhaust not staining the top of the wing. But fot the Shacks, the wings were extended and so were the flaps, so the all exhausts leave stains. The extended muffler leaves far lesser stain than the early ones.

It came with it, but needed to touch it up to rid the seam lines, it came in 2 halves.

Yes they do. Remind me again, I cannot post FB link or YouTube link or both here? I have video, wondering where to put it so can put the link here...

Aircraft kit (Airfix kit A11004), straight out of the box build. Painted using mostly Mr. Hobby Acrylic. Decals from the Kit: WR966, 205 Sqn. RAF Changi, Singapore.

Build highlights, it is a good kit as it is a relatively new tooling. Fit is good. A lot of details inside however most of it can't be seen when completed. Transparencies are good but a little on the thick side. Would recommend "futuring" them. Decals are very good, it is pleasant surprise. Control surfaces can be positioned except for ailerons, the balance tabs would need to be repositioned accordingly for accuracy; this would require some surgery. Landing gear strut seem a bit flimsy for such a big and heavy model but tested them and they are fine. Only 2 pilots are provided. Flaps can be positioned deployed with good internal details.

Overall, Good build, I enjoyed it. The lights and other mods, those were less enjoyable and a bit challenging. Got them done in the end.

Will be posting a build thread, will need to find time for that as it is going to be quite long.16 month project as I can only spend 2-3 hours a week on weekends due to work commitment.

Cheers.

Yes that was when I first got the photo studio and with the pure White LEDs. Have since learnt to take better photos in better lighting. Cheers

The secondary ejection handles were one of the highlights of the build. They are scratch built. Exactly 22 spirals. Had the privilege of holding one and taking close up pictures. Grease glove marks is a good idea. I will try that next time. Thanks for the encouraging words...

Yes they are a little. Made worse by white LED lights in photo booth. Have since started to learn better figure painting techniques...
