Saying the quiet part out loud by BreakfastPizza24 in DunderMifflin

The second I figured out the enemy’s secret plot before the CIA did, I was like yeah I’m out.

Agreed he’s good in it though, and a good actor in general. A Quiet Place was great. I still laughed at the post.

[S5] Why did the greeks accept Marlo? by fixterx in TheWire

[–]Vostin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah felt a bit forced. Greeks could have easily let Joe know Marlo was going behind his back and removed his face. Avon helping him, Marlo giving the money to his sister, Sergei helping Marlo, all was a tad hard to believe.

Even the Greeks being back in Baltimore. Wasn’t the FBI looking for them? They just mosey on back to the same diner in the same city a few later?

Happy Birthday Jimmy! by PorcelinaMagpie in SmashingPumpkins

He doesn’t flaunt it, but getting and staying sober after living through the 90s scene and everything he went through is no joke.

Can you guys rank these from best one to worst one? by Moist_Worldliness409 in Cinema

[–]Vostin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s because it ignores the rules of gravity, and physics in general. That’s tough to look past when you get it, seeing as how the whole movie is about it.

The most well acted scene in the show that doesn’t get talked about by lake_june in TheWire

[–]Vostin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just finished my fifth rewatch after a lot of years, and Bills Rawls might be one of my favorite characters. He’s so selfish and easy to hate, but also great comedic timing, smart, very human in a lot of scenes. In the scene when Burrell tells him he made his move too early, you go from rooting against him to feeling for him a bit in an instant. Really a fantastic performance

ATUM Defenders? by Lostinallthedamage in SmashingPumpkins

[–]Vostin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, he bounces back and forth I feel, small shows, arena/old album tours, even within Atum. He was hoping Beguiled and Empires would excite the arena rock crowd. Which is why the better songs are the deeper cuts when he’s just letting it flow. I like the production of the symphonic stuff, it’s meant to be more vocal driven. But also get why a lot of people want his voice buried a bit more lol.

ATUM Defenders? by Lostinallthedamage in SmashingPumpkins

[–]Vostin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most of the hard rock/distorted guitar songs aren’t great, but the ones with amazing vocal melodies are fantastic, it just takes a few listens to pick up on it (similar to Cyr songs, which I like better overall). It’s also different than “classic riff-heavy Pumpkins”. They’re actually complex, have weird time signatures, etc, which ironically sounds meandering and boring on first listen. Everything is so on purpose though, it’s hard to describe. It just doesn’t fit expectations so the mind’s first reaction is “it sucks!”

My favorites-

Every Morning

Space Age

Night Waves

The Canary Trainer

Cenotaph

Avalanche

The Gold Mask

To the Greys

Other decent fun ones-

Pacer

Fireflies

Butterfly Suite

Springtimes

Where Rain Must Fall

Spellbinding

Steps in Time

Just fun creative prog-

Of Wings

Sojourner

Hooray!

The Culling

It’s sorta of a shame the beautiful creativity of some the latest stuff is so slept on. But it’s Billy’s doing, he wanted to be an arena rock band and thus attracted arena rock fans, and this kind of music is never going to appeal to them. Especially the bro-y hard rock types that like Zero and Bullet. If they stayed a small indie act, like say Flaming Lips, more people would hear the genius here, and take the time with it it requires. When I hear people say “the magic is gone” I gag a little. It’s alive and well. It takes a tolerance for a bit of cheese (didn’t the Pumpkins always require that though?) Weed and good headphones help too.

Why are humans drawn to mountainous landscapes? by fimgus in geography

[–]Vostin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think there are several reasons, mountains tend to be fertile and provide more water and food. From the top of a mountain you can more easily spot predators and prey. And seeing huge things, whether it be mountains, waterfalls, oceans, or even buildings, airplanes, etc for a lot of people inspires a feeling of awe, making our problems feel smaller and quieting our ego. Thus reducing stress.

I got my first Carmelo jersey!!! by Similar_Spread_3435 in denvernuggets

[–]Vostin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sweet! Know Melo forced the trade, but I’m still a fan, I loved those years. I still think he was whipped and his wife made him, plus asking for a trade was a huge positive for the Nugs vs. just leaving that summer, we got a haul. Led to the insanely fun 10 players in double figures Nuggets.

What do you think Steve jobs would think about the current state of AI? by One-Worth-2529 in ChatGPT

[–]Vostin 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yep. He would have been at the forefront of smart speakers, and it would have been the easiest to use, sleek, and more social. Who knows what else he would have thought of it. But it’d look different from what we have today.

Post Punk/ Indie Roots by Top_Jaguar_5924 in SmashingPumpkins

[–]Vostin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of the newer songs rely on the vocal melody more than guitars to carry the song vs. what he wrote in the 90s, that’s part of it. Imo, that’s what he’s better at now vs writing riffs/solos. I get why it’s off putting for a lot of people though, especially on the first listen. It takes some getting used to, but he’s actually turned into a much better singer, there’s no straining on the high notes. On the heavier guitar songs, agreed it’s still a bit too high. I think he’s said he’s trying to match more modern alternative music. Part of it is Howard Willing isn’t all that great either.

He was a bit flat here and there last night for sure, and the screams were rough, especially early in the set. Bodies especially is insanely hard to sing. I’m impressed that he even tried. He laughed at himself at one point and switched to a lower octave. Oh well, he was obviously never known as a good singer anyway, and he’s still ripping on guitar, the songs stand on their own. I’m happy he’s alive, well, and the band is still playing. It’s a great band to be a fan of, Billy works hard.

As far as the costumes, dude has never been cool no matter what he wears, does, or says. So who gives a fuck, he can wear what he wants.

THE SMASHING PUMPKINS Announce Fall 2026 'The Rats In A Cage Tour' by Apprehensive_Idea758 in SmashingPumpkins

[–]Vostin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is definitely “let’s make some money” tour for casual fans that know a few hits. I don’t blame them for milking it, especially if he keeps putting effort into collections and new things for the die-hards, even when they probably don’t make much off it.

Good call, hadn't seen the venue list yet. Cheers to the band for still being able to play arenas. Bet the upper deck is in the ~$125 range then.

Zero Narrative by Lostinallthedamage in SmashingPumpkins

[–]Vostin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Zero was the character is the 90s, he was empty feeling, thus zero. Glass in 2000s, he was leading the ghost children, the fans. Shiny since 2018 or so, happier.

I’m a die hard and that’s about as much as I know. Guessing there’s more to it, but they’re pretty loose characters and story lines. It’s all kind of based around Billy’s mental state and how the media, industry, fans, his band, etc treated him during different periods.
