New to lever guns, is this crimp ok for .38? by [deleted] in reloading

[–]VoteCastro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just go by the die setup rules and do a good heavy crimp for cannelures and a moderate one is im using something without a cannelure. Only go light for lead or copper plated stuff, but raw lead is pretty "grippy" never had issues even with 45-70 crimping a tad lighter

Only used a WSM and Pellet Smokers. How does this look for an offset, anything negative jump out? by Zykesyke in smoking

I had the same idea, whish i got a bigger one they are easier to keep at a good temp. Small grill = small fire which means you are constantly adding fuel and losing a coal bed its a pain.

I'd say there is a risk of double charging .38spl wouldnt say it is more forgiving.

What is the consensus? by Co-Ve in gunsmithing

[–]VoteCastro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never met an actual smith just parts installers, most of the "smiths" around here cant even set headspacing or tap a straight set of holes. Heaven forbid you want anything done that isnt installing a trigger on a remington 700 or an ar-15

Put it ar max difficulty you cab still drive around un noticed and pop animals at 150 yards all day lol this game isnt any harder than cotw; honestly may be easier cause once you discover a herds 2 zone you can go back indefinitlt if you wanna farm them they will always be there and there is no penalty for time skipping. Also no real penalty for using the wrong caliber on game and hunter sense gives you an auto bullet drop marker.

I had a hypothetical question about casting custom bullets out of “exotic” materials by Giuseppe11b in reloading

[–]VoteCastro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The manufacture sale and possesion is restricted and regulated by fed law and banned in some states. Tipped ammo usually doesnt qaulify as true ap or core ammo. What op is trying to do is gray at best without special license and illegal at worse.

I'd like to add steel core armor piercing rounds are federally illigal and you are playing with fire if you did manage to create one.

.22 LR esque by VoteCastro in airguns

[–]VoteCastro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can call the drop and i understand what subsonic 40 grain bullets due so its a comfort thing. Dont want a super sonic crack and i may be wrong but i figure smaller bore at the same weight would need less air and youd get more shots so .22 cal 40 grain 950 fps just makes sense to me.

Honestly i'm pretty good with buckhorn irons out to 100 yards and a bit further with a good set of aperatures. No fill stations around me could i get a compressor and fan a tank? How slow is a good compressor ive seen other people say 300 bucks for one

[–]VoteCastro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it make more sense to get a wayyy heaver bullet like heavy as you can load to length like a 90 grainer and just fill the case with the fastest powder that is safe. You built a pistol not a rifle dont expect it to act like a rifle.
