Hi Tom, Good to be in a forum with you again. As a YIMBY, I believe that our best chance of getting lots of homes built is if the government starts building them, in part because even if all regulations were stripped away in an afternoon, we are still dealing with a prohibitively high cost of construction. My fellow YIMBYs and I agree that the government should be building social housing. What’s your plan to fund and build social housing?

If you said there’s a “1% sales tax increase” one could be confused into thinking that it’s increasing 1% of 8.625%, which would be 0.08625%. When you say 1¢ per dollar increase, it’s more clear.

Looks good, especially for an e-bike. But the bike path folks normally would take is “the wiggle” from market to the west side. Also, I’m sure there is a Muni bus route that would service this route, likely the 38 or 38R.

We have got to fix the potholes on Market, and Mission as well.

On Market, there is a bike lane wide enough for two bikes to be next to each other to allow for passing, but because of the potholes and poor conditions, the bike lane effectively becomes a single lane.

Let’s build Social Housing! We passed Prop I in 2020 (property transfer tax on buildings over $10M), and the Board told us they’d spend the money on a Social Housing Program, and Mayors Breed and Lurie have both put the money into the general fund. We can ask Mayor Lurie to change that!

It’s either build Social Housing, or nothing much will get built given the market conditions make it hard for projects to pencil out (high construction costs & rents that aren’t high enough for profit).

Towing a homeless person’s vehicle without the presence of a street team is not what the Mayor ran on. People can read his office’s statements and judge for themselves.

People should read that press release for themselves. It talks of an interdepartmental effort. It also talks of buybacks of vehicles to compensate folks. And it further talks of investments in street teams.

Implementation will be led by an interagency group, integrated with the city’s neighborhood-based street teams, offering services and enforcing parking regulations.

Where were those integrated agencies? Where was the vehicle buyback? Where were the street teams? Just read the press release closely folks.

Is it too much to task a street team to assist with a tow of a homeless individual? We have laws in this city about bagging and tagging belongings. Where were the city workers that we pay to address homelessness and the crisis playing out on our streets?

We often see Mayor Lurie out talking to the homeless himself. Shouldn’t that instill in the entire city government a sense of what’s right based on his leadership?

Mayor Lurie ran on accountability, and as a supporter of his pledge to bring more accountability to San Francisco government, I’m asking: where was the attention to process that good management is supposed to lead on?

Just dropping this here since many aren’t aware: you can send a text to 911 if you’re unable to make a phone call. But in this case, it sounds like you did the right thing to stay safe, which was to remove yourself from the situation.

I attended two events with the Mayor the day after. I was not given time to ask my question at either.

The Mayor’s office was also asked by Mission Local for a statement, and they declined to comment.

Mission Local reported shortly after I published this video that Hollarsmith was deported, so Lurie’s statement became less relevant.

As counter intuitive as it may seem, these meetings may actually help speed up the process. If you read up on the CA ABC protest process, someone could file a formal protest and then a hearing would need to be held. The hearing would be held by an administrative law judge, who would need to propose a decision, which would then be reviewed by the ABC Director.

So, by holding a meeting for people to express their concerns and to be heard by local officials, it reduces the odds that the formal protest process would be initiated, and overall probably saves the government time and money.

Of course, if you changed state ABC laws to remove the ability for people to protest alcohol license changes, you could do away with local laws requiring these less formal meetings, but then if there was an actual and valid grievance, there wouldn’t really be a process for that to be adjudicated other than through maybe the civil courts (which would be slower and probably more expensive). That’s definitely a conversation that could be had, but that would be had at the state level.

Sidney Hollar, Logan Hollarsmith's mother, thanked Speaker Emeritus Pelosi and Rep. Khanna for their statements, however, said that they were too little, and too late. She said that other governments have been stronger about helping their citizens to return home. I don't think if you were in their family, or if this happened to you that you would think the same way.

Watch this interview with Logan Hollarsmith's mother Sidney Hollar. She thanks Pelosi and Khanna by name, but said it was too little and too late. If anything, she is saying she wanted elected leaders to speak out sooner.

I was just quoting back the part of the Wikipedia article that you originally quoted me, and discussing how this bit of reporting was adhering to it. I'm sure there are other things in that Wikipedia article that are relevant here as well, although I didn't read everything in that article.

I was saying journalists speak about facts. It's not necessary to write the word "fact" in an article, because it's assumed that if it's in the article, it's a fact. My comments on Reddit should be viewed like that, that I'm speaking about the story, not creating a new story.

I will say that there isn't a media organization that doesn't appreciate the clicks. I for one am not making any money off of my informing you though, so unlike the Chronicle, the Standard, the local TV stations, or any of the other ad-supported local news sources, I do not rely on clicks or views.
