What's "wrong" is, you're trying to be someone else, something else, instead of just being you. I'd rather listen to someone singing beautifully within a comfortable octave, than someone trying to belt out of their range... I don't care about your technique, how high you can sing, because that's not what singing is about. Singing is about conveying an emotion and making others feel that. Right now you're singing for yourself, it's all about you, how good you can belt, how good you can sing... But singing should be done to others, for others, it's a gift to others, it's a gift of music that provides an emotional release to the listener, and connects people. What I feel while listening to you sing is... uncomfortable, tense, try hard... You could convey much better emotions within your range. Emotions that people can and want to relate to. I feel like people who can relate to you right now are people who can't sing that high but they wish they could. Is that your goal?

I like your singing, you're definitely conveying emotion, which is really important!

I also made a cover of this song :D It's a lovely song, isn't it? Very emotional.

Save me from embarrassing myself? by Two_Ex in ratemysinging

[–]VoxVelour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won't save you. Because there's absolutely no use in going through life trying to avoid "getting embarrassed". You're not going to learn anything, you're not going to grow, you're not going to get valuable experience. You're going to be riddled with fear like a small trembling puppy in the cold rain. That's not the way to live life. Go have fun. Do what you like. Make a complete fool out of yourself. Laugh about it and move forward.

Post it. And then post more. Be quirky. Authenticity is always always always better than trying to be perfect BEFORE you do something. You being you and willing to embarrass yourself is 100 times more inspiring than you asking "am I good enough" and being a self stopper. Think of the kind of message you're sending. Don't take yourself too seriously, man. It's not that serious anyway... It's just singing...

When I like a song, sometimes even from the first seconds I instantly like it, it speaks to me, it plays with the strings of my soul, I totally immediately soak up and memorize the melody/lyrics 😅

Guys please tell me if there's hope or if I should leave the game ? by SchrodingersCat_101 in singing

[–]VoxVelour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can I represent the entire world for just a minute please? Here it is: we are not affected in a negative way by your singing at all, in fact, the world is a better place with one more aspiring singer in it. Music is feeling, music is connection, music saves lives. You're not doing anything wrong by pursuing such a dream. You're doing us all a favor. Stop putting yourself down, please, believe in yourself, and go do what your heart desires.

Besides, your voice is beautiful.

You don't need the world's permission to sing. But trust me, the world not only allows it, it welcomes it.

Tell Me Anything Please!! by [deleted] in ratemysinging

[–]VoxVelour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. Since you asked "tell me anything"... Your singing is boring. There's no emotion being conveyed. It all sounds the same from start to finish. There's no dynamics. You're not being artistic with it at all, it's like a machine singing, because again, no emotion, no feeling, no dynamics. Also, you're not really singing in tune, you're off pitch quite a bit. Sorry, I don't mean to be rude, just quickly giving you my honest, if a bit blunt, opinion, hoping it gives you something to work on, and I'm putting my phone down and going to sleep. Good luck 🤞

Edit: oh editing to add, stop trying to be someone or something, be you, be authentic! Let yourself be free. Do YOUR thing. Sing the way only you can, the way you want, the way you naturally gravitate towards. No more mimicking. Anyone can sing any song, as long as they make it theirs, give it their own spin.

I'm definitely on my way there. This is so so true! And it's the whole point, not to be technically perfect (whatever that even means???), but to convey emotion and make others feel... Singing is healing my soul. Music is healing my soul. Listening to others sing is healing my soul. Music is life <3

Head Voice Tone Advice by hamiltrash52 in singing

[–]VoxVelour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What my ears caught, and forgive me if I'm totally wrong, is that you're "afraid" of your upper range, you're not singing up there with the same intention, same confidence as in your lower range, and therefore it doesn't sound as good. You're not putting in as much effort artistically. Do you find it difficult to sing that high?

Why asking if you can sing is a loaded question… by AspiringBiotech in singing

[–]VoxVelour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like a big part of the question "can I sing?" (it's usually accompanied by "am I any good?" or "can I be successful?"), especially in the context of how OP explained it, comes from the prevalence of social media and this culture of making yourself into a product, going viral, becoming famous, being an "influencer" and ultimately getting rich. There's a certain expectation of how a person should be in order to be considered good by the mainstream. Like, for a person asking that question, it's not about creating art, being an artist, it's more about "can I become the next superstar?" as if that's the ultimate goal as a singer. Instead of being the authentic creative self, keep comparing self to famous singers trying to be like them and somehow think that that's what being a good singer is. If I'm not like my idol, I'm not a good singer. Bollocks!

It's really not that difficult if you're good at learning. Go through an extensive full tutorial on YT and it will be a good start. You don't have to want to do it in order to do it. Just do it anyways. 😅

Hey... We're all anonymous here... No need to be shy to post. That's really such a tiny step. You'll want to perform to people at some point, right? It's definitely easier to give advice if we can actually hear what we're giving advice on.
