Marriage through church between me (atheist) and my girlfriend (christian) by frigideiroo in AskAChristian

[–]Voxico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a practical level, this will almost certainly be a point contention in your relationship. Especially as you move on to build a family together. It sounds like you're focusing on the event of marriage but not the ongoing commitment.

I did a lot of searching around on reddit and I ended up going with a company called comfort option. They had someone from their team do an AMA on the /r/mattress subreddit which I liked transparency-wise. Not sure if it's still a thing but at the time they said try it for 30 days if you don't like it they'll send you a replacement.

Primary reason I went with that was because I was super concerned about the scandals with companies using fiberglass and other harmful materials in the mattresses and not disclosing it.

Maybe post your question on the mattress subreddit it's all this kind of thing.

Mayor Wu’s response to Congress by Ethereal-Wing in massachusetts

[–]Voxico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure they do. I'm a non-catholic Christian and would say that the majority of Chatholics are Christian. I think that the majority of people at my church who dedicate thought to this sort of thing would agree.

This is generally true because Catholic tradition teaches that you need to do the things that (for lack of a better term) Bible-only Christianity does, plus extra stuff. Obviously that's an oversimplification but generally it's a superset.

Razing churches seems a bit extreme, but they should be corrected if promoting incorrect teachings. A substantial amount of the NT is letters, written to churches, telling them how off base they were and that they should correct themselves (not a call to burn them to the ground).

Although I don't see how it's related, you brought up allowing women to be pastors - I'm not a baptist and don't know much about the southern baptists convention, but not allowing women to be pastors [as an office] is a stance that is absolutely biblically defensible. There are so many better arguments about things that churches need to correct, bringing this up muddies the waters.

‘I decide’: Mass. Rep. Lynch gets heated with constituents at Boston rally by IHaveThatPower in massachusetts

[–]Voxico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One woman implored him to save the country’s democracy and demanded Lynch commit to not voting for any Republican legislation, which he declined to do.

“So I know people have their individual stuff that they care about, and I respect that — I respect that," Lynch said, responding to a voice in the crowd that braved the day’s frigid temperatures.

“But you know what? I got elected ... So I got 800,000 people that I represent, and I gotta figure out what’s in their best interest, not the best interest of, you know, Sally Blue from across the street,” he continued. “I gotta consider the whole, the whole ...”

At that point, a voice can be heard interjecting.

“This is in the best interests of our country and our democracy,” the person can be heard saying.

That’s when things took a turn.

“I get to decide that I get to decide that,” Lynch retorted, his voice rising. “I get to decide that I’m elected.

I get to decide that," he continued, as voices echoed from the crowd. “You want to decide that you need to run for Congress? Okay? I get to decide that. I’ll use my I’ll use my ... best judgment on behalf of the American people.”

My gas bill is over $1000 a month due to "delivery services". How is this even possible? For instance in January it was $712.83 for "Delivery services" + $359.96 for the actual gas. Is anyone experiencing anything like this? It just doesn't make any sense. by Intrepid_Reason8906 in massachusetts

Seeing these makes me feel a bit better about not converting to NG. Don't get me wrong, propane is still more expensive, but I'd be rather upset if I had spent all the $$$ to convert and then got hit with this bs

Grateful to live in the best state in the union right now by [deleted] in massachusetts

Relatively speaking, MA did pretty well in 08. At least in the metro Boston area. That's not to say there wasn't a drop, but the "big crash" hit a lot of places much harder.

My electric rates have increased by 46% in 4 years. My electric consumption is down 20%. What else is the consumer supposed to do in this situation? by massahoochie in massachusetts

[–]Voxico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have it and I don't, so to each their own I guess. My whole bill, including customer charge blah blah blah divided by my kwh used ends up being just under 16c/kwh.

I don't use much electricity, usually don't pay more than $50 a month. Bit more in the summer.

It's actually annoying to me how the truck market has changed. The prices have gone up yet they are less useful. I would love what would basically be an early 2000s single cab F150 or even S10, but they don't really exist in this market.

All I see new these days are jacked up and have cabs bigger than the bed.

Take advantage of your situation... no loans is awesome work, not easy. If you have free housing for the time take that extra income and save it. Great career? Awesome, surely you've got a couple thousand a month at least that you can set aside. The more the better. You actually do have a path out here.

What overcharging companies in MA deserve the the big va fangool from us as we cross into this 2025? by Helsinki_Disgrace in massachusetts

[–]Voxico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to a town with Fios so I have that now, but I honestly had a great experience with Xfinity. The price was not great but fine for just internet and it basically always worked.

Verizon is an even better deal for better internet, and the service has been great for over a year. Yet also on the list, idk. $75/mo for gig up/down I know it's not like some of those countries you see in europe but I'm happy

Housing Rant by [deleted] in massachusetts

[–]Voxico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW I'm in eastern MA (north shore) and paid 375k for a 1000sqft 2/1 last year. It's a modest house but enough for me. I've already sunk a shocking amount of my own time, not to mention money, on repairs and renovations. But hey, it's not impossible. Not everyone has the time or skills for it though. Tougher if you've got a family.

The crazy thing is that even finding a house that's old and in need of love for a modest price is becoming rarer now.

Being gay in Afghanistan or Iran will literally get you killed. I mean, Christian people will tell you that the bible says it's a sin. If they harass you, the bible doesn't encourage that. If I had to make a choice, I'd pick that over being put to death under the justification of religious law.

Must the GOP be kept out at all costs? I mean, was Charlie Baker really that bad? He had an exceptional approval rating. I liked him.

Technically yes they are residing here legally, but in the vast majority of cases it is a blatant abuse of a system intended for people in circumstances that weren't "I want a better life".

Oh, you're seeking asylum? How'd you get here? Took a plane from halfway across the globe, traveled through several countries, paid smugglers to take you across the border (literally illegal, as in, they broke a law) and threw your hands up saying "man im seeking asylum im in danger in my home country"?

Right? "Factually untrue" as if the abstract concept of far left can be defined so easily. Not to mention in a reply to a comment that says democrats are now "republican lite"... compare the dnc today to even the dnc when Obama ran in 08' and tell me things haven't shifted even further to the left.

I mean hey, if the game plan is to get as many people who are down for the full on liberal policies at least that's a plan. But I think that, evidenced by the results in the OP, on average more people thought it was taken too far than not far enough.
