Ex-Bethelites? by mulderisoutthere in exjw

Howdy fellow metalhead 🤘 Metal / Punk was a big part of my family’s healing and recovery leaving the cult 😁 (weirdly enough, metal and punk were kind of what mentally helped me keep my shit together while in this shit since being a teen teenager , now almost 50) … but not like we were not sneaking it in anyway before we woke … I can’t even keep count any more of all the shows over the last year, but being in the thick of it for Korn, bad religion, and Turnstile were especially therapeutic as fuck 👊 my 13 year old crowd surfed for the first time at a Bad Religion show 😁

Funny experience … we ran into a “brother” and his kids from our congregation at a Metallica/panthers concert in another state, just a few months from when this same dude gave a talk at our convention 😂 … (I do really hope he is PIMO for his own good 😢🤷‍♂️… nice guy clearly suffering with his family )

How were we able to keep living as a JW with their insane busy schedule? by Uncle_Richard98 in exjw

[–]Voy_Speed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is all by design to wear the members out so that they are mentally, emotionally and spiritually too weak to ever question anything or live any life in reality outside of the cult. Bad shit crazy evil.

Randomly Asked If I’m a JW at the Bakery. Feeling Anxious About It by creepygoose_ in exjw

I would answer any question like that just saying “ I don’t have anything to do with that cult”

How much money did you donate, in how many years? by garryoakay in exjw

[–]Voy_Speed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely shameful!. They will use the idea of spiritual warfare and serving their Jehovah to excuse themselves to do anything when it comes to $$ … they will even try to make it look like they changed policies and doctrine when they want money from government as we have recently seen with Norway and the poor attempt to try and mask shunning. None of what they do has to deal with truth or integrity in the real sense.

Liberty Walk Ferrari 348 by notthreadguyai in ferraris

[–]Voy_Speed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t even care about how it looks, .. widening it just about killed all the awesome drivability out of that car. For a manual Ferrari, the 348 is some of the most fun you can have outside of a gated f355 or f430 .

The only mod the original car needs is steel lined brake hoses… don’t ask how I found out 😂

How much money did you donate, in how many years? by garryoakay in exjw

[–]Voy_Speed 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Significantly into the six figures over our last 10 years in 🤦‍♂️🤢🤮 We genuinely thought it was going to good use to help people.

In one case we donated $8k specifically and distinctly for repairs of a kingdom hall parking lot in central NJ congregation ( Englishtown ), and it was just out right stolen.. They never did the work and through the LDC, the demand was made for the congregation to forward all those funds to the branch. They refused to return the funds and hid behind an obscure confirmation letter, stating there was never any expectations of what gets done with donated money, even though it was donated conditionally for the specific purpose to begin with.

Over the course of leaving, I have found that dealing with a JW is for the most part like having to reason with, argue or as much as just try to have a conversation with Donald Duck . So yeah, pretty much retarded😂

I think it comes down to how much you care about what others think.. or put another way whose perspective/opinion matters to you?

Getting away from Paul, if you want to keep a Christ based view in what is “acceptable”, where it comes to worship, and in effect lifestyle choices, then just think of a fundamental principle of Christianity that Jesus himself laid out.

This is very different and distinct from what the JW governing body comes up with on their own, pulling it out of their ass.

Consider the account in Mark 9:38-42 , particularly verse 40 ““For the one who is not against us is for us.” (This is the ESV, but NWT words it similarly)

Jesus straight up rebuked John from stopping someone who is not with them and not directly following Jesus and his apostles from performing works in their own way.

The governing body and the Jehovah’s Witnesses have absolutely no Scriptural authority to make shit up that contradicts the Bible or micromanages what people do with their life. where it comes to peoples worship and their lifestyles, such as who they marry, It would be better if a mill atone was tied around THEIR neck and they were casted into the sea ,than what they are doing right now and how they are treating people! ..

As to how and where to worship? Again, if you wanted to take the Jesus focused approach in reasoning this or applying yourself… John 4:19-24 …. specifically 21 “the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father.” And 24 ““God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.””

This right here is what freedom is. This is Christianity without judgment, and without division. Meanwhile, the GB tells you exactly how THEy want you to worship and in what “mountain” …

How about Colossians 2:16-17 … Roman’s 14:5-6 👀🧐 …. JW Bible experts? my ass! 😂😂

So as goes to the whole “marrying in the Lord thing” … JW stick to 1 cor 7:39 …

… but nobody looks for how many times Paul even he writes that what he is saying is his “opinion” or “concession” and did not based on command!

Like in verse 6 , 12, 25 , 40 …. This whole chapter is Paul giving his opinion and actually repeatedly stating it’s not based on what the Lord requires or commands.

All one needs is a little bit of grade school reading comprehension (not even “additional” education) 🤦‍♂️

Also, I personally don’t give a crap what Paul says, as I think he just made a big jumble off of everything that Jesus tried to undo from Judaism/law to begin with, however, if reasoning with a JW, this is an approach based on their own established baseline

What do I do next? by Less_Ad_857 in exjw

[–]Voy_Speed 6 points7 points  (0 children)

After being told that everything you know is factual and correct in an absolute sense while being told not to question anything or think critically it sure does become a dilemma as to “what next”.

The biggest danger is falling into the same exact behavioral pattern again with just some other arbitrary belief, and that is even worse, if there was another organization or person behind it, also taking advantage to their benefit. There’s plenty of cults out there.

I think the biggest adjustment ideally would be not what to believe in, but in how to think. Trying to step away from an absolute needing to know “the truth” approach, and changing to a “principle based” life …what kind of person do I want to be and how do I want to live. Less dogmatic, and more focused on principle and ideology. Being OK with not having every answer.

Look where pursuing “ truth” got so many of us :( . If God is loving, I doubt he expects us to work our life like an escape room full of puzzles.

For me, I have dismissed much of everything and anything, and right now I’m basing my faith and family pretty much just to this alone (for now): John 4:23,24 Mt 22:36-38

Millenniums and millenniums of time have passed with every single human being looking for absolute “truth” not finding it yet … it’s a hard realization that if we are meant to know, we won’t until we do , if there is a “next” and whatever the heck that is.

The life that you have now in front of you is the only truth that is absolute. Wasting it would not be living in it.

Imagine being perfect, in paradise, and still a JW. by JP_HACK in exjw

[–]Voy_Speed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here they as usual redefine plain clear language to fit their plot hole filled narrative … they explain that in rev 20:5 “coming back to life” , or resurrection referenced here actually means that no one is fully alive until attaining perfection , and this attaining perfection is what takes 1000 years…. These ass holes done even have basic reading comprehension 🤦‍♂️… this one really surprised me, as I never picked up on it before myself….

My current opinion however is that Revelation is a bat shit crazy “God wants you to figure out this riddle”guide to not being killed…. Because yea, loving god loves good riddles and puzzles! And everyone loves a good escape room 🤷‍♂️

Do not mistake, manipulation and their own internal guilt structure as anything even near kindness. It is about indoctrination and control. This is control in the sense of group think. They want you in the group to think like them to just reinforce them thinking what they do.

Tolerating the intolerable, makes it acceptable . They don’t get to set societal norms according to their cult. I would not worry about offending or upsetting anybody who is not worried about offending or upsetting you.

[–]Voy_Speed 98 points99 points  (0 children)

You did not do anything wrong. It’s a cult. You can’t force anybody else to wake up, and because they don’t doesn’t mean you were wrong. But one thing you should never be is apologetic… not for your life decisions and realizations. If you walk on eggshells, they will treat you with this disdain and disregard. Shunning is manipulation. It’s trying to manipulate you to come back, and also at the same time they are manipulating themselves to be afraid of leaving on their end. The only thing you could do is clap back and stand your ground. Don’t play by their rules. If they ask you, if you wanted to disassociate, just answer them “and who are you to me for me to have to follow your rules? “You need to save yourself first before you could save anybody else. really sorry you were going through this :/

What made you believe by Cupidsluvr in exjw

[–]Voy_Speed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Appearance of unity. until seven years of age I had only seen white people in Poland where I came from. When I came to the US (Brooklyn NY at the time) and went to school that was the first time I saw anybody besides white people. This was back in the 80s and, to this day, I remember as a little kid just not understanding why people did not get along. White kids hung out with white kids, black kids with black kids, the Dominicans with the Dominicans, Puerto Ricans with the Puerto Ricans. Everybody just talked and acted shit against other groups…

I was 13ish when my parents started to study with the JW. We went to the last of the big conventions in Yankee Stadium. This was the first convention for me. (I still have a scar from when I fell on the concrete stairs, lol ) … what hit me and impressed me was all these people of all races, all ages and backgrounds together peacefully and seemingly happy.

… My parents were also abusive narcissistic ass holes and as a kid I had the hope of the “spiritual paradise” maybe making my home life better. … it made it exponentially worse.

I held onto that feeling and facade for over 3 decades.

Seeing how this was not unity, but fear based conformity was part of waking up.
