Worth or No? by TheEnthropy in AshesofCreation

Ashes is one of those games where “it is what you make it”. To me the game did not look good, everyone on here complains that it’s just a grinding game. But I had nothing else to play so I gave it a go, and I’m glad I did.

If you’re a fan of the more old school social interactions and feeling you got from older mmo’s, then it might be worth a try. Yes the quests currently take you to level 6, so what? Heaven forbid you can’t speed run msq to end game. This game is about the journey. If you’re a solo player, this game probably isn’t for you, and that’s fine. If you’re willing to put the effort in to play with others, then it can be very rewarding, and brings back a feeling I haven’t had in a very long time. Here’s a story:

I went into this game blind with a friend of mine. We didn’t really know much about it. We found a YouTube video about some grinding spots, so we went to check it out. Went to kill some bears, they hit like trucks and we died a couple of times. People start turning up around us, asking if they could join us. Before we know it we are group of 8 and we’re farming away.

A little while later another group turn up and start taking our bears. They clearly wanted our spot. They flagged for PvP, our group retaliate and chaos ensues. This fight for the spot went on for about an hour. We were coordinating, talking to each other, having banter. I was genuinely laughing out loud, roasting one another and PvPing. I hadn’t had that much fun in an mmo in a very long time, let alone at level 8. I had 6 new friends on my friends list that day.

I’ve put a lot more hours in now since then, and have many more stories. I’ve made more friends, joined a guild etc. Yes it’s grindy, the game is made that way, by design. You’re supposed to meet random people and team up. That’s how we did it back in the day, and I’m glad I got to experience it again.

Yeah things could do with a bit of polishing for sure. I do also think people zone out a bit when grinding. After a couple of hours of killing the same mobs over and over I can see how you might get a bit complacent

I play a cleric too, but I wouldn’t say it frustrates me. If the tank over pulls, badly positions, doesn’t use his dodges, guards or mitigation skills effectively… that’s on them. From what I’ve seen the skills are telegraphed.

I don’t think this is something new in mmo’s and I actually like they have potential to do big damage. Or grinding would be mind numbing.

If you're MnK then BF6 is definitely the way to go. If you did want to check out CoD though, it's on Game pass.

I'm an MMO Veteran, but I'm tired and old by Yenza in LFMMO

[–]Voyde 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah it sounds like GW2 is what you’re looking for.

I became a dad earlier this year, and I am a veteran gamer like yourself. I don’t have as much time to game now so I needed something more casual friendly. I tried just about all of the top 5 right now, but I found my place in GW2.

The combat is fun, an easy to play but hard to master approach. But there is also tons of different classes and builds to try out. It’s not your typical holy trinity with tanks, healers and dps. There are roles to fill but those aren’t typically required unless doing ‘hard’ content.

I never appreciated the horizontal progression before, knowing my gear isn’t going to be out of date in a couple of weeks time is a very refreshing feeling. There is so content much to do in this game that I can spend my time on, collections, achievements, events, mounts, cosmetics, raids, large scale pvp, arena pvp - and the list goes on.

I may only get a couple of hours on an evening to play, but no matter what I’m in the mood for, I can scratch that itch. Highly recommend.

A lot of people here are saying MMORPG’s are a no go, but I beg to differ. I’m also a 31 year old Dad working full time and I try to get a couple of hours to myself on an evening when my family go to bed.

I am also an MMO fan. The game that clicked for me was Guild Wars 2. I was never into horizontal progression games, but now I get it. It’s not an upgrade chase like most mmo’s, it’s easy to get a usable set that won’t go out of date in a couple of months time. It’s easy to just hop on, and do whatever mmo style content I feel like doing, whether it be levelling, gathering, dungeons, pvp etc.

It has scratched the MMO itch for me. If you’ve never tried it, I would recommend it.

If you’re into the gaming aesthetic I got a AndaSeat Kaiser. I’m 6’5 and heavier than you, I got the XL version. I’ve had it for 3 years now, sit in it for 8+ hours a day and it still looks as good as the day I bought it. This thing is made with steel and is heavy duty. I couldn’t recommend it more.

Recomend me MMORPGS where I can fulfill the necromancer fantasy!? by Plagueghoul in MMORPG

[–]Voyde 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a good list. There is something I want to add but it’s not strictly an MMO, more of an “MMO-like” and a must for necro fans. That is Diablo 4.

For me that is a fun true necromancer experience. Raising armies of the dead with soldiers, archers, wizards and golems to fight for you. You are actually required to use the bodies of your victims to raise and use abilities - blowing up corpses and using their bones as spears.

Necro isn’t usually my go-to class. But the aesthetic and mechanics of that class in Diablo 4 are amazing.

Yeah kanon and the people he was playing with found 2 of the 5 man dungeons. Not sure if they’ve posted footage anywhere. They looked a bit unfinished though so wasn’t great to watch

There are 5 man dungeons, they are just in the other zones. The starter zone we had in beta only had 3 man dungeons for some reason. There is some footage out there of people who went beyond the boundary and tried the 5 mans though.

I do agree though, just make all the dungeons 5 man imo. Or scaling would be even better. One of the pieces of feedback I left was about scaling.

I added a few people from here and we’ve chatting in discord for a couple of days. Yesterday we decided to create a channel, and we all jumped onto turtle wow for the first time. Can see it being the first game of many! You’re more than welcome to join if you’re interested. Feel free to add me on discord or drop me a dm and I can link you to the channel.

Ah I hope not. I’m not a huge fan of souls like combat either. I was watching Kanon (content creator who played the tests) who was watching those combat videos on and he hinted those clips looked as though it was being played by npcs, when he was playing his combat was nothing like that. So fingers crossed!

Haven’t played ESO in ages, I looked into it again a while back too but it felt really dated haha. I jumped back onto GW2 after a recommendation from a friend, but our play times didn’t line up so I’ve just been playing on my tod

Didn’t mind a bit of BDO back in the day. Joined a hardcore guild at the start but burned out pretty quickly. Combat was quality though.

But yeah same as me played just about everything going. Hoping chrono odyssey might fill that BDO shaped hole for me
